The Boss said by himself during an Interview, that he had to make it fit to 4/4 from 9/8 that he was able to play it properly... I love Springsteen, but Sting is the better Musician.

IMHO, fantastic rendition of a Sting song that I always enjoyed. The orchestral arrangement is a nice touch. Didn't know Cash covered it til I watched this clip, don't think the JC version is any better or worse but simply different as you'd expect these two artists' takes on the same song to be.

Comparisons? There are none. Cash, Presley, Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins -- you'll never see the likes of them again. Talk about careers that lasted a long time & influenced generations of musicians. Sting is only someone who can follow. Sting's version is excellent. Cash made it timeless.

I love Johnny Cash, and do personally like Johnny's version better than Sting's, but I'm willing to bet that your dislike for Sting's version is simply due to your personal stylistic preference in music. Honestly the tone of the strings is somewhat happier- it needed more melancholy tones (the bright french horns and upbeat strings) make this sad story sound triumphant. It is beautiful, but when you match the lyrics to the music, the music sounds a bit ironic to the point of the song so I actually like Bruce Springstein's and Cash's better.
Well, that is the idea of having an orchestra to provide backing. And this is coming from a frequent orchestral player. I mean, isn't that the whole idea behind a concerto, or in this case a solo performer with instrumental backing?
