I have to agree. I've still got my grandmother's old hand crank grinder, and it works great. The only time I use my mom's electric one is if I am making a big batch of sausage. The hand crank isn't that hard, so it's easy to do your own burger or meatloaf grinds with it. I hate listening to the whine of the motor on the electric ones. I figure anything making that loud and unpleasant a noise can't be good. Seeing them vibrate would terrify me. ;)

I believe Kitchen Aid recommends using the grinder on mixer setting 4. For versatility and space savings though, using a stand mixer as a meat grinder just makes more sense. The Kitchen Aid does a serviceable job grinding meats and is probably one of the best mixers out there. I'll stick with it.

I've been grinding meat to make cat and dog food for 7+ years. The plastic Kitchenaid attachment cannot handle bones of any species and the plastic housing is known to crack under stress even without grinding bones. The instructions also specify to not use any speed above #4 with the grinder attachment. The model I use is the Tasin-108 which is the most popular model for raw pet diets as well as grinding meat for human consumption and sausage making. It uses universally sized blades and plates so getting replacements is relatively easy. It also has a reverse button.

Make sure some fat is involved for the grinding; add drops of oil down the neck if the meat seems to stick. Speed setting is 3 max...faster isn't necessary. I wouldn't grind bones for my dog but I will make stock and broth.

I agree...the sound is grating. I am very sensitive to sounds. When looking at reviews, if I can't hear it, then I won't buy it. Even the most expensive is too weak for my needs. Can you do a review of higher ends. Loved watching you two. Two lovely women always holds my attention. ;)

I can only imagine if someone’s finger got caught going through the bottom portion that is spinning around while the meat grinder is going if they grab a hold of the machine to study it or whatever. It would literally snap their finger off!

Is there a vegan meat grinder alternative?

To properly grind up a vegan... I suggest, the Soylent green 2020. It has the proper power for bone and sinew.

I find that the judging of the kitchenaid model was unfair. The Kitchenaid website and the booklet both say to not run bones through the unit. The plastic one isn't ment for it.

The grinder on the kitchen aid is not from kitchen aid. Theirs at kitchen aid is all metal and runs about ninety-nine dollars which is a lot better than the cheap plastic one used here in the video.

Thanks so much, I just ordered this Gourmia and will be returning the Cuisinart I got today, tommorrow, because this review, AND the reviews on Amazon confirmed to me a Carnivore , I made the right choice, and it's 40 bucks less !😊

I don't grind enough to warrant a separate device taking up space. The Kitchenaid works just fine for me since I don't cram freaking bones through it.

You should have ground pork shoulder up and see if the grinders can handle that. I havent seen any of these kind of grinders be able to grind any beef that has any tough stringy texture to it.If you want a grinder that you dont have to worry about what kind of meat you grind in it spend some cash and buy a nice table top commercial grinder because ive used just about all of these Chinese junkers and there all junk, they are good for grinding ham and lunchmeat to make some spreads .

They should have tested the Kitchenaid with metal meat grinder instead of the plastic one! Also the plastic meat grinder IS NOT $60? More like $30 on Amazon.com. the metal meat grinder attachment comes with extra accessories and is $64 but now on sale for about $45!

I wish they had tested the products for an entire day and tasted the meat they produced. I've heard these products some times produce metal shards in the meat.

The thing with the kitchenmaid is that it comes with a manual that tells you what speed to use for each meat. I wish she would do her homework and read before doing these segments. The same thing happened with the pasta kitchenaid as well when she didn't put the right amount in or the right speed for each setting.
