  • Fleeting Froogle episode 4 and I've stumbled into two of my pet annoyances with sims today! Why oh WHY do sim makers not have a clue about common control configs? Why oh WHY do the makers of sims that would be ideal for VR, NOT SUPPORT VR!!!!!!
First look at Aerosoft Glider sim is not going well.

XP11 gives you GPU frame times and CPU\RAM frame times, they also divide their graphics settings up by component loaded. GPU settings are on the left and CPU\RAM settings are on the right. This makes it VERY quick and easy to tweak the sim for any hardware. This should be required by all flight sims.

The entire MSFS camera view system. Incomprehensible.

Get a Xbox One controller, the drone camera was made for the controller. Other than that I agree with you, the camera system is incomprehensible.

My pet peeve is default ATC and its inability to properly space aircraft or recognize SIDs/STARs.

As a previous CH products owner and now virpil I've never once had the ease of use of pre mapped buttons 😂
I'm just used it now and probably wouldn't like anyone else's mapping if a sim did provide some lol

I like that DCS keeps its controls config on a per aircraft basis. Only the controls that are relevant for the aircraft are shown, alongside any special buttons.
X-Plane or MSFS might be technically more sophisticated when you can apply controls to profiles and profiles to aircraft, but it muddles the water and is confusing when you want to config yourself for a Cessna172 and see controls for 4 propellers, cyclic for a helicopter et cetera. Then you have to go and assign profiles to aircraft. I much rather have to re-assign controls for each aircraft.

can't beat stupidity of DCS key mapping. a real nightmare.

Not having VR was a nonstarter for me...not buying unless/until they add it. And, like you, not having all controllers preassigned is a MAJOR PITA/annoyance for me as well. I don't see why they cannot provide a basic setup for each and every mainline player. It's not that hard, and the manufacturer's provide them upon request, so it's simple laziness/oversight when one doesn't offer it out of the box.

Mine is, sometimes Mods not working. MS FS 2020. You try to unzip or copy a mod into the community folder and it tells you the file length, or something to that effect, is too long. Why did MS make some of their directories with such horrendous characters after their names.

I have (the now old and discontinued) Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback II.And this is not catered for in MSFS so all bindings have to be set by hand and the feedback aspect has to be catered for using a separate app namely Xpforce which of course is an added cost. The format of this stick is such that by now it should be possible to update to modern tech and a nice big lipo battery.I did get onto Microsoft regarding this but have not had any answer from them.VR is good if you can afford it,but force feedback should be regarded as essential..................................................

This is literally where I stop with most sims. I have 3 or 4 modules for DCS and 2 or 3 full games that I don't fly because I just don't have the mental energy to sit and set up controls for them.

Not such a problem in flight sims, but for racing games it's USB devices re-emunerating arbitrarily based upon what port they've been plugged into and in what order. You need a pre-start checklist or a number of games will mess up bindings between devices; good luck figuring out then what ID3 has become without re-doing the entire list for all devices, only to find that after the next reboot it will magically go back to what it was before. Alternative: delete every USB HID that's unplugged and start from scratch (stopping along the way to repair driver installations that lost their virtual HIDs "for some reason"). I can't believe I'm still dealing with this shit after more than 15 years.

This is precisely the problem with Falcon 4 BMS as well. It's because those games don't use the Hardware UIDs directly but the device number that the game controller API (or rather DirextX) assigns - which changes after re-plugging. This also leads to the limitation of 32 buttons per controller in older games.

My pet peeve: Hardware builders that make a controller that doesn't conform to the standard controller profile, then package a required driver/configurator that map buttons to keys. I know many of those online WoW-like games are unplayable if you don't memorize huge amounts of keystroke commands, only to then find out that most of the other players are faster "typists". BUT, I don't play those games, so _why_ must I first map buttons to keystrokes, then keystrokes to game functions?

my pet peeve right now is in xp11 with audio popping. i think its to do with fmod sounds but i cant find a solution, only a lot of people having the same problem.

Why are you using Fighter sticks for civilian aircraft?

  • @weswheel4834

I don't have VR, but I had read people complaining about mapping settings in Glider Simulator. That does look pretty bad. (I hope that it keeps the same settings for all aircraft). Back to MSFS, it annoys me when an axis can't be mapped for an aircraft in fsuipc (most can, but some aircraft need 1 or 2 axes mapping in-game). Thanks.

You have convinced me that this program is a waste of time and money.

  • @weswheel4834

For balance, DCS annoys me that it maps all axes on all devices it can find (giving multiple axes controlling pitch for example). Why couldn't they just not map anything by default if it finds multiple controller? XP11's mapping is pretty void now, but annoying when something breaks and the preferences need resetting.

Oops "pretty good now", not void.

I agree that Thrustmaster and honeycomb devices should be mapped at a minimum in addition to the default joystick anf Logitech/saitek devices and another was you venting for a while in this video you could have gotten your point across by a statement to the fact that these items were lacking and flawed in your opinion.

My pet peeve. NO Flight sim, platforms to my knowledge, support hand tracking. For me, having to find either a mouse to click on something, or to have a controller dangling from my right hand whilst battling the saitek yoke, two throttles and a trim wheel is faintly ridiculous. The good thing is that the pedals are not affected. Thanks for your "comeback" LOL I missed you.

The first thing related to this hardware topic: if I’m in the mapping part of the settings page, and I hit a particular button, if it’s assigned to something then show me what that is! IL2 I’m looking at you when I write this. The second unrelated thing: developers who aren’t utilizing the checklists in MSFS. It’s so handy for users and such a bonus to the platform. Not incorporating it is like a middle finger to the user.

    • @GeFlixes
      @GeFlixes 3 года назад

This. Also a infor box that shows when a button is already assigned to something, and especially to WHAT, with a prompt to override the assigned input or to discard the change. Bonus points for when you can actually jump to that control. Just a red exclamation mark for "control issue" with no further info doesn't help at all.

I have to map my joystick in msfs202 so I don't use it. I will stick with FSX 'til they sort out this demo software that's been released as a finished product.
