Yeah but he tried really hard, practiced a lot despite obvious disadvantages, and never gave up even as he grew older. These traits can make him successful in other parts of life besides basketball. The kid may not be great at basketball anymore but that doesn't mean you can't learn from him.

This is the worst idea I’ve ever heard , it would take over a year to fully recover , would make him more prone to injury and last but not least ruin his speed/mobility and athleticism all around
