This is a great reminder of 'why' we are doing music/entertainment in the first place. To touch people and to be touched by magic.

Great advice! Nervousness and excitement feel very similar, so turning your nervousness into excitement is great advice.

My worst performance ever was during a weekly student recital in which i was to play a Rachmaninoff Prelude. Nerves took over. I sat down at the piano, looked at the keys, and thought, "What are all these black and white things?" So nervous. I put my hands on the keys and struggled to hang on to the end. As i came off the stage, my teacher said, "Had kind of a Hawaiian sound to it." It was torture to face people after that recital. Thank you for this good advice; wish I'd heard it 50 years ago.

This makes me remember that we only play music by channeling true pure state of enjoyment and so, to play with or for others means you get to share this magical moment with them. It’s a gift that fulfils itself by giving.

That's similar to what I do! Remembering your audience is not there to put you down and what you're both there for. I want to make it my goal to give my audience something that they will keep with them forever. I try to make every time I have on stage special. I may be nowhere near the caliber but it's great when you get free yourself from the thought that you're there to be judged since that's pretty much ehat we tell ourselves when performing. I remember we're all there to have a great time and I'm sharing hard work that I'm proud of.

I remember being on stage after being introduced and being very nervous before going out to be seated for my performance my technique was to just Confront the people in the audience I just looked at them very intently at everyone in the audience as I was sitting down in my chair and everyone who was staring would look away and I knew I had them after that it was cake

Wow I seriously wish you had been my teacher, even though my instrument was clarinet, back some 18-19 yrs ago when I eventually cracked under pressure (to be fair I had/have an unrelated severe mental illness) and burntout. Also I’d very much wish you to adopt me as your granddaughter!! You’re one of my musical heroes and guess what- my mum surprised me with a cello for Xmas!! I don’t play the cello but I’m sure going to give it a red hot go!!’

he's not talking about people pleasing. Imagine making yourself happy on your instrument, but everyone gets to watch how you do it. It's vulnerability.
