Acid skin doesn't mention base critical strike chance. The lack of the key word "base" implies that 5 stacks would only double your chance to crit, not guarantee it. It's the same mistake people make with "increased crit chance" in other ARPGs. Also to demonstrate how I suspect the math works: base crit chance * (1 + increased crit chance) or 5% * (1 + 1.00 [100% increased crit chance]) = 10% chance to crit
Internet outage ate my first attempt to comment on this, so here goes: "Is that too much excitement?" No, no it's not. Magic in general gets portrayed as too feelsy these days, or something inherited. There's no identity to it, no discipline. Thinking happy thoughts is supposed to be a substitute for actual arcane prowess. Well, if thinking happy thoughts works so well, imagine what you can do thinking cruel and angry thoughts... To paraphrase the literature: "The Universe is not human-hearted, and you cannot be human-hearted when bending its rules." But on a more serious note? No, it's fine to expect a dark magic user to have actual dark and cruel powers. There's a class that raises the dead, there's a class that takes a more vampiric approach to the classic Lich, and now there's a class geared towards inflicting agony on its opponents. Nothing wrong with expecting such a class identity to actually matter lore-wise. Mechanically, I think having a wide variety of DoT's and debuffs is another good way to add to the class fantasy, certainly something that feels new yet familiar in a way. You could be a one-trick pony spreading a single curse throughout the land, or you can be extra creative and generous and go Old Testament on people, one plague at a time. Never played ARPG's specifically, but been meaning to get into one, and Last Epoch looks like it ticks all the boxes. Little bit biased in favour of Druid and Beastmaster, along with Mage classes, but very curious about how Warlock builds will work. If nothing else, a little bit of LoL nostalgia with that movement spell as a callback to Vlad W's.
Not that we've heard so far, but there is a rumor that current characters will be moved to a legacy status whatever that means in this game. But honestly we really don't know until it comes out.

I haven’t tried the falconer yet, but the warlock definitely starts blasting around level 25ish. Cthonic Fissure and Chaos Bolts are super fun to play around with.
You are not alone! So it’s an old school RPG thing, as well as a deep fantasy thing. In fantasy lore, Warlock doesn’t necessarily pertain to the gender of the person practicing dark magic, but rather the nature of the dark magic that they practice. A warlock is someone who makes pacts with or subjugates demons or the dead in order to use their souls to fuel their magics. Curses, necrotic disease, underworld green fire. It’s all warlock magic. As an example you can look at D&D or other tabletop games based on old fantasy that have Warlock as a class, not as a character. World of Warcraft and other MMOs also have warlock as a type of magic. Last epoch seems to be doing something similar.

Witches being female only is a misnomer. Men can be witches too - no this isn't a woke thing; a witch practices witchcraft. If you practice witchcraft, you are a witch, irregardless of gender.

Warlock usually shown as a man but not the same as a witch. TV media yeah it tells man are warlocks male witches but they do very differently practice. Witches learn or train to do their ritual where warlocks are bestowed gifts they then learn to vontrol.

In other universes, like Dungeons and Dragons and other RPGs, Warlock's are defined by the type of Demonology, curses, and forbidden soul related magics they practice. Its not tied to gender!

It supposedly means 'oathbreaker,' and depending on who you ask, it either refers to groups who broke an oath of non-aggression (refusing to surrender even when the rest of their community did) or it refers to them breaking the oath with their patrons. Because while fantasy literature focuses on the pact itself as being binding, occult literature portrays it as being a fair exchange; the warlock does favours for the patron, in exchange for knowledge of magic, not raw power. You're expected to be able to build up raw power on your own. Eventually, the demands become too great, and the warlock decides enough is enough, breaking the oath and going their own way, hence oath-breaker. So in practice, it'd be as neutral as the term 'mage,' really. For context: hobbyist fantasy writer that likes to check the original source material of things. For better or worse sometimes... seriously, never look too far into that kind of stuff if you don't have a strong stomach, there is some weird and disturbing stuff out there.
the hype around this game feels very weird to me, it really seems more motivated by a hate for diablo 4 than by the own merits of Last Epoch the story, the sounds, the cinematics, the npcs, the combat, the graphics, the voice acting, the quests, your char appearance, all those are very mediocre in LE, especially compared to Diablo 4 I guess that some builds look cool? is that enough though?
I was really thinking the same, but after I get my hand on the game. I was surprised how good it feels. Maybe I am a grumpy old man, but this game felt like early 2000's (still a little better graphic) to me. So I can highly recommend it. I am not saying this is the arpg if the decade, but still much more to do than in d4.the character customisation is just so good. Item system is way better than D3 or D4 , but yet, not that complicated than Poe. I can agree with you that the D4 is for I far superior in graphic. But I can't say that for sounds too. I am myself a bow type guy when it comes to arpgs, but I just can't play rogue in D4 due to the sound effecta of barrage/rapid fire. It is just ichies my ears.
I agree with Krig - I think the Diablo 4 is much more polished experience because Blizzard is able to spend resources on that and as far as graphical advancements and art styles blizzard has always been a fore runner in the space. But as far as the actually content goes, Last Epoch may not have the polish but it’s does have a very good gameplay loop with mechanics that hold your attention and are fully flushed out. Things that even other games in the genre don’t do. But I think it’s all preference. Like I wouldn’t necessarily compare last epoch to grim Dawn because grim Dawn has a very different gameplay style, even though a lot of the mechanics are similar.
The builds not only look cool, there's many you can try. Unlike D4 I've spent a large amount of time excitingly trying out new cool builds I've dreamt up. Some skills also has really cool interaction with other skills which makes this game miles ahead of D4. The story isn't the best, and that can be said about the end-game too. But here at least, compared to D4, I am playing the end-game.
I'll take average art/graphics with above average to great gameplay over the reverse. D4 kind of proves that you need more than looks to keep to keep gamers attention.

I get exhausted after gearing 1character in PoE but i can play multiple characters in LE and I'm still not bored.

Graphical polish can be added any time. A good core is what d4 lacks and this game seems to have.
