    We made garlic-pickled-leeks last spring that we harvested from the woods in my area of Northern Michigan. They were so potent that they became a Man-Test to eat five raw. They were AWESOME in a Bloody Mary! Cheers. :)

    Hey SCRAMBLED-O great video.The food looked good also. Got an idea for you on the bread part of that. Next time add 1/8 tsp. instant dry yeast and 2 tsp. of sugar to the dry mix. Nead it in the bag and let it rise while you process /build the fire.About 30-45 minutes. It will rise in the bag a little .Make sure you leave the bag slightly open. remove and press out just like you did to shape it. Then cook as you did. It will be like pizza dough. I am a bread baker. People in camp will be begging for a piece of bread. Take care.

    Just consider the flatbread to be an edible plate until you add some rye flour, carraway seeds, and some salt. A little dab of olive oil as you mix it will go a long way to make it more palatable. Flavor is everything. Another great vid. The lunch looked terrific.

    Great video! Maybe to add a little flavor to the flat bread take some dried herbs (rosemary, oregano, basil) and grind them in a pestal and mallet to make them into a powder then mix it with your flour and water mixer. Also add a touch of salt. Keep the videos coming.

    I used to be a baker's assistant for about two years and after that was a fill in baker. Making bread or rolls is like many things, where you have to work it for just the right amount and it will be soft. If you over work it, it will get hard and the more you over work it, the harder it will get after it is cooked or baked.
    When I was a baker for Mr. Donuts and later for Dunkin Donuts, we would call it First Cuts, Second Cuts and Third Cuts. The Yeast Doughnut Rings would be First and Second Cuts. The Shell donuts that are filled are also First and Second Cuts. The Apple Fritters are Third Cuts.
    Try it out at home, this way you will get in practice to learn the perfect amount to handle the dough. If you learn a good yeast recipe, you can make a lot of bakery items with that same recipe. Doughnuts, Cinnamon Rolls, Hawaiian type Sweet Rolls, Long Horns, Tiger Tail Twists, Apple Fritters, Sweet Bread, Monkey Bread, Sweet Hot-dog buns and more. Dry Yeast in the little packets will last a long time, will go a long way and can be done in your wilderness cabin when it is finished.
    Mmmmm Cinnamon Monkey bread in a cast iron pot or Dutch Oven.

    Hi Sir O! Great vid as usual. I have a camp hack for you. At my local grocery store they sell cedar grilling planks in pack of 6 for cheap. These make good cutting board / dinner plate. They weigh next to nothing and you can throw them in the fire after using. I've been doing this for the past couple of years. Works great.

    when harvesting ramps, don't dig up all the roots. cut off just above the root portion under the ground with your knife and leave the roots in place to regrow. you don't want to wipe out the population, they take a long time to mature. (I'm probably not the only one to comment this so I'm sorry if you've already heard it!) :)

    I know this would be a very late suggestion, but you can make Korean savory ramp pancakes with the green portion of the ramp. Just RUclips "ramp pancakes" and Maangchi's video should pop up. Her recipes are delicious and easy to follow. Plus, you'll be learning a Korean dish 🙂

    It may not work at all but have you thought of planting a small garden? Nothing big, but something that doesn't need too much tending. I have no idea what to plant, but the soil looks decent, and wild stuff is growing so you should be able to get something to grow. That would be an awesome bushcraft meal to cook something that you grew at camp.

    A good alternative to flour/water flatbread is sometimes called "Johnny Cakes." One recipe calls for a 50-50 mix of pancake mix and cornmeal, salt (optional) and water. Flatten the dough into cakes or just one pan-sized cake and fry in bacon grease. Serve as a bread with bacon, etc., or as a sweet with butter and maple syrup. Either way, it's a tastier dish than bannock, etc.

    I have a lot of cedar on my property and saw the same thing on my cedar trees. I had thought it was a bear clawing at the tree since we have a lot of bear but when I was out one day with the dog I found out exactly what was shredding the bark off the cedar trees. I watched a red squirrel nibbling at the bark and then had a piece of bark in his mouth and watched him pull a huge strip of bark off the tree. I am pretty sure they use it for making their nests. It was pretty cool to watch. It would have been cooler if it was a Sasquatch though. Lol

    That flatbread would've turned out a lot tastier if you had added a pinch of salt and a small bit of olive oil. I know that's two more things to pack in, but it would've added "that flavor, boy."

      @TheAtomsing 7 лет назад

      Not necessarily to pack more things, when you can combine water with salt, to taste and tablespoon of oil together and put it in the zip pocket with flour, and you have all cooking stuff together. So you just pour water in to the flour when needed.

    Hey O. I hear of a lot of folks cooking up pizzas in the Boundary Waters (Minnesota). I think the base components are either a tortilla shell or a pita, topped with sauce, cheese and whatever else you like. In a fry pan, you can steam cook it by throwing a sheet of foil over it and add a small splash of water. Just an idea for you. Cooking seems to be a common theme for your videos.
