The issue with your headlight covers is most probably the check valve that’s near the firewall on drivers side. It’s a silver metal thing with three hoses on it. One is vacuum and then it “T”s into the headlight system. Up front on the drivers side is a vacuum reservoir tank (black odd shaped thing). There’s one hose on that follow it back to the fire wall and you’ll see it will connect to the check valve. If I’m not mistaken , the other hose goes into the car and feeds the center vac port of the headlight switch. You can try taking it out, and spraying WD40 into all ports of check valve. Sometimes this will free up one that’s stuck open. If not there available.
Thanks for your input, I just got a 78 that had been sitting in barn, I just finished fogging the engine, going to drain the old gas and see what it does.
Keen to follow the progress on this beautiful ride. I have a '79 Mk V Collectors Series in Sydney, Australia but have always loved the '79 Bill Blass editions. That start up after 8 years was so easy!
Thank you sir! I am looking forward to it as well. Took it for a spin and noticing that my power steering reservoir is empty. And I turned my windshield wipers on... Can't get them to turn back off....
This car has always been my lifelong dream car. Six months ago I bought a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V. It was running fine, but needed a new battery. Got a new one installed and the engine started right up. The next day however it cranks but will not start. It is doing the exact same thing as your car in this video. Do you know what could be wrong?
Change the water pump hose the little one that hooks up to the heater hoses those two small ones are hard to get to but most definitely changed those they'll leak and you'll think it's your water pump that makes it look like it's your water pump but if I were you at change those two small ones right there near the water pump
@@BlakeLarson I've owned my Mk 5 since 35 years now and looking to give it some tlc and a much needed tube up.I was told to replace the timing gear as the original ones have nylon tips which can break off and go in the engine. Also did you rebuild the carburetor? IS YOUR distributor advance vacuum seized? Thanks for any advice.
@@l.f.4591 The Lincoln Mark V Series Came with an optional 460 ci above the 400 ci engine from 1977 to 1978 in all states except California. But for 1979 they decided to eliminate the 460 ci option all together for the sake of "efficiency"
I hope to soon! Unfortunately it’s not in running condition anymore so there will likely be a few repair videos before I can record one while driving it
You Do NOT KNOW how to start a car that has been sitting for year. YOU DO NOT PUMP THE GAS the way you did . You should have stepped on the gas peddle for about 5 seconds then release that sets the choke and lets gas to the carb then turn the key for 5 seconds if it does not start do it again I own 8 Lincolns and I am a engineer at FORD I also have the same engine in my 1979 Lincoln . Putting fresh oil in the car was the right thing to do
I bought a 79 Mark V 6 months ago. Got a new battery put in it. Started right up. Next day it cranks but will not start. It is doing the exact same thing as the car in this video. Do you know what could be wrong? Thank you for your assistance!

That car is a beauty. I am hoping to see more of it and hear what you work on!

That big old beautiful Lincoln
How come you don't make any videos of you driving it? Or do a walk around?
Nice ride .
Beautiful classic survivor! Happy motoring
What did y'all end up doing with the beautiful Bill Blass Continental?!

Since you got it up and running, you should do a video of you driving around in it.

@@BlakeLarson It still looks good though. That's sad it's such a pretty car.
@@BlakeLarson That's the Bill blass edition.
Should have primed the carb! No gas no start!
I've got a 1979 Lincoln Continental Bill Blass edition I'll sell you. It runs and drives.
Mine sat for 20 and started and drove with 20 year old tirers
What happened to the car?
I own a 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass S trim 350 5.7L V8 (rocket V8) I have videos of her on my channel if you wanna see her
Not a fan of the 400 c.i. engine. Put a 4bbl on that 400. Your 0-60 will thank you.
