He's a frkn genius absolute without denial a guy who's quite happy in the skin he possesses and excellent on him . We fuckin need more just like him!!!!!!! And yes the young should listen to him . What as a Canadian I'm a little pissed that he dished Montreal only Canadians can do that, so for you John boy Montreal is the pit of Canada!!!! But only Canadians can say that !!!
Lydon makes interviewers work. Yet I haven't seen many interviewers get good answers from him. I think John would love to dance with an interviewer on a poetic level. If it were me, I'd respond "If you say hair is dead - then why not just shave your head?' And John would relish in answering 'Well that would just give it a chance to grow again...' And there lies the rub. To grow again in a new way? A ugly way? Or start a misinterpreted trend yet again? Which could in fact be new and ugly like previous incarnations? I think John would really love to face challenging questions like that on a philosophical level - or just answer with a loud burp to it all? LOL
This is The Very Reason he and the Pistols are LEGEND Malcome Maclearand Didnt even Know what he had he was Actually A Salesman who Stumbled on an Incredible Talent With An Even Larger Grasp and Understanding of His Surroundings and the World he lives in This Guy is One of A Very Few Musicians Not to Mention From His Time that Has Substance While Most Are So Hollow GOD Save the Rottens of this World from Horrible Predictable Untalented Interviewers Like this one
Johnny Rotten was and is an answer to the question can people with no specific talent or ability be entertaining and succesful in the entertainment business...the answer of course is yes since the perception of both talent and entertainment is purely subjective...some people want to get their entertainment from people who can do things that neither they ar anybody they know can do while others wish to get it from those who do things they could do with the opportunity and the balls to do
John Lydon speaks common sense. Very smart bloke, and he's always very interesting to listen to (contrary to most boring "celebrities")... But Ottawa's worse than Montreal, really.
Daniel Richler was probably Canada's most respected music journalist at the time (it didn't hurt that his father was Mordechai). Arts journalism is more about meeting artists on their level and not being adversarial with the subject of the interview. Lydon had had some nasty experiences with interviewers who did not understand what he or punk was about, and has been in total idgaf mode ever since.
You don't know enough about John or Sid's relationship with each other to say that. John respected Sid up until the point where he threw his life away (his decision) and regretted asking him to join the band because he thought it put undue pressures on him. Meaning that he liked Sid- but not how he went out. And he always says it. He hates drugs, and says good riddance to him because he warned him [about heroin] & tried to help, but Sid made his decision to go down anyway.
My reaction to john has always been simultaneous love and hate-broadish agreement on the one hand but detestation of his arrogance on the other-like he's got all the answers to the problems of the world, and his total refutation of the racial issue,go on I'm ready
John has always had the "Punk" attitude, whether he thinks it or not, whether he like the name "Punk" or not..... He simply found a way to act out in the presence of people who found those actions to be atrocious, obnoxious, off colour, rude, pretentious, etc., etc., and that attitude is what punk is all about......FTW in the arse!!!!
John's against everything and everyone (at that age) - part of the character? I mean, I get the business people, but it's like his mind (or character) immediately views ANY SCENE very much like a child (not saying that in a bad way - just he does - things look more ridiculous as a child, and he just states all the ridiculousness that he sees, whereas most are oddly content just to go along with whatever ridiculousness already exists, because if it already exists, it must be okay, right?
Oh, hardly. He'd probably be fat, boring and fronting a version of the Sex Pistols who never broke up and sound like Guns 'N' Roses. C'mon... you know it's true...
were all going to die so we might as well live a happy existence until then.....Well fucking said John
Fabulous interview. Excellent answers. Anger IS an energy!
Thank you Johnny Rotten, the world needs more people like you.

Lydon has tremendous talent as do all from Pistols, your comment is rubbish.

His dad is famous writer Mordechi Richler.

John Lydon speaks common sense. Very smart bloke, and he's always very interesting to listen to (contrary to most boring "celebrities")... But Ottawa's worse than Montreal, really.
Wow. A brass pop version of Banging The Door.
This interviewer did a great job dealing with John, don't see that often

Happy Bloomsday Lydon
Amen.
@A310fan
Do you have just the audio or the video of the full performance?
Public Image Limited > The Sex Pistols.
My reaction to john has always been simultaneous love and hate-broadish agreement on the one hand but detestation of his arrogance on the other-like he's got all the answers to the problems of the world, and his total refutation of the racial issue,go on I'm ready
Popchix: No such thing as 'boring' countries only 'boring minds'

John has always had the "Punk" attitude, whether he thinks it or not, whether he like the name "Punk" or not..... Whats the song at 10:38 ???
cool thanks!
who is the guy sitting next to johnny rotton ?
RobSnake That is the late legendary guitarist John McGeoch . Played with Magazine Siouxsie and the Banshees and of course PIL.
he looks a bit like Malcom sometimes.
Pretty ironic. Also very ironic that he goes on talking about hippies all looking the same. One could easily say the same thing about punks.
That is what he's saying silly - punks = the new hippies
Dont fuck with Johnny Rotten.
Does he like anything?
Honesty...Being true to himself always in all ways.
Iggy ore Johnny the godfather of punk! ??!

The voice of the ranting obsequious jealous does not appeal to me

gay comment
Bailey trolls Lydon videos hard core.
My guess: He offered to polish John's knob after a gig and go the boot.
*BURRRRP* lol.
Oh, hardly. He'd probably be fat, boring and fronting a version of the Sex Pistols who never broke up and sound like Guns 'N' Roses. C'mon... you know it's true...
