Could you guys review an Elseworlds story? Superman a Nation divided? It´s one of the good Superman stories..
Darkseid has the energy of someone who is clearly losing an online argument, but then they see Galactus made a spelling error.
Ha ha I was trolling made you waste your time. Dam it hes right, that is what he did here wasted Galactus time because he could not eat the planet
@@daraghokane4236 no u
So Darkseid has the energy of an Darkseid fanboy
@@daraghokane4236 he could've ate the planet but chose not to because there was no point in doing so
@@Ashadar_Resouley The Planet is like Celery crewing it takes more celeries then you get from eating it. I like the Simplistic of Galactus, I need to eat to live what's his goal not die so he has to eat you. That is scary but I can't blame him for that
“You may have been a primordial force for your universe but, I've already depicted you as the Soyjak and me as the Chad”
-Darkseid
26:40 that’s already a book. It’s called Superman/Fantastic Four: the Infinite Destruction and it’s a perfect book to do next year when both movies will be releasing in the same week.
Ooh this is a great idea
I was honestly shocked Sal wasn't referencing that, I thought he was gonna pull a "so then they did that!"
“It’s two villains. Whoever loses, we win”
Had me dying 😂
Thanos: “I am on a mission to court Lady Death herself.”
Darkseid: “Death? She was my high school girlfriend. How is she?”
Two Kirby creations fighting? This episode is specifically for me!
Ethan saying "That's the symbol for hope in their culture" freaking sent me into orbit! 🤣
12:18 the reason they look like Asgardians could be that Kirby’s original idea for the New Gods sprung from Ragnorok and the death of Thor’s mythos to give birth to the New Gods.
How Sal hears Jack Kirby's voice in his head while reading Ben Grimm's dialog, I hear Michael Ironside's voice in my head when reading Darkseid's.
Non Editors Note: For Superman vs. Galactus (and some of the stuff Sal mentions happening) read Superman Fantastic Four.
Torbin Rays living good!
Honestly Thor vs Darkseid would be great because, and get ready for this
The New Gods WERE FROM MARVEL! Jack Kirby’s idea was the New Gods came after Ragnarock, and the reason they used boomtubes was to get from the marvel universe to the DC universe. While that idea never panned out, new god writers later did respect Kirby’s vision by having the gods before the New Gods he Lokee and Wodan, corrupted versions of Loki and Wotan, AKA, Odin. Hell they even reference ‘The strongest god, the god of hammers’ as who broke the world and split it in two! So yeah, man… Thor vs Darkseid would be awesome.
I feel like Apokolips be the first planet to give Galactus indigestion… Galactus: quick Silver Surfer, get me some cosmic Pepto-Bismol lol
The ultimate Jack Kirby episode
My wife una says that Tiffany has beautiful mermaid hair. Also great episode
That is so nice, thank you!!
I'm only halway through the episode, but this is already a top 10 for me. Absolutely love the banter, this is basically a full episode of tangents.😂😂
I don’t know how, but this has turned into one of my favorite crossovers. Not because it’s good, let’s be honest, it’s so dumb you can’t help but love the charm of the time. Thanks for covering this one guys!
I’d like to see Galactus in the 40k universe, trying to eat Holy Terra.
I knew people were called Marvel Zombies but I never made the connection between that and the book! TIL!
No need to apologize for the Thanos rip-off line, Starlin has always been up front about it.
Except it was Merton he was ripping off, until Roy Thomas made some tweaks.
Yeah I met him at a Con and Starlin confirmed it was Metron.
@@Ashguy733 Definitely explains the chair he sometimes gets around in.
@@Ashguy733 if you want to hear… well, read… a great Starlin con story…
In Feb. 2020 Starlin came to The Great Lakes Comic Con, and I had jphim sign this fanzine he did about an anti-war superhero named Eagle, in like 1969.
Only thing was, he was a Navy photographer at the time.
So, he tells me that a superior officer came into his dark room fuming about him doing an anti-war comic while in the. Military, pulling open the closed curtain, while he was developing film.
According to Starlin, he then said “if you don’t close that curtain I am going to shove this camera up your ass.”
"I'm Going to Naples." -Sal
Jor-El thought Clark was talking about another planet. Clark said he’s going to Krypton. And Jor-El was like, well I’m from Kryptuhn, completely different place.
Haha I didn't get it at first then I remembered how he pronounced it in the movie 😂
I'd love a version of galactus that's just a regular human sized person that descends from the sky, fork and knife in hand, ready to eat a planet one rock at a time.
Darkseid, as a douchnozzle, can never lose. Because even when they fail horribly and accomplish nothing, douchnozzles will simply not accept that they can lose, and so they think they never will.
Been watching you guys since you started. I took a break for a few months-and I can't tell you how happy it makes me to check back in. You guys are truly a gem of the RUclips. In the way RLM hold intelligent criticism, friendship and creativity. It's great to see how you guys havent faltered in your approach to quality, standards; plus goofs and gaffs. I appreciate you guys.
I always though Darkseid was cool because my first exposure to him was Michael Ironside in Superman: The Animated Series
Idk why hearing BMOC again made me die laughing 😂
It feels out of place in a non spiderman episode.
I got this as a kid when it was new, and it blew my mind. I was rooting for Galactus, so I was pretty pumped with how things played out.
Also, I love Sal’s Joe Mad Age of Apocalypse shirt.
I'm LOVING these tangent epilogues lol
I think with the Silver Surfer you are right they can do anything with the character, but a tropeI like with science fiction is when you have an alien through perspective taking look at humanity from an outsiders lens that reflects and showcases aspects of humanity that isn't entirely from a human perspective. The OG run of 18 issues certainly felt like Stan's philosophical soap box.
This was a really fun episode! And it also inspired me to think about how cool throwing Superman and his stuff into the mix with Galactus could be. You mentioned Brainiac and there's a couple ways I think you could go with it. First and maybe most obvious is you make him a herald. Brainiac is going around picking planets, and he gets to take one city before Galactus shows up. Or if you want to get crazy with it, have the presence of Galactus make Brainiac a full on good guy. He's collecting cities from planets he knows Galactus is going to in an attempt to preserve something of them before they're gone forever.
And the gang talked a lot about all the parellels between Superman and Galactus. I feel like there's a story somewherein there about Superman becoming or being a herald himself. I can just picture how it'd go too. Since Galactus' heralds all have sort of elemenally themed powers, Clark's could be light/fire. And when he's transformed Galactus could say something like; "GONE is Clark Kent of Earth. GONE is Kal-El of Krypton. Now there is only... THE LAST SUN!"
@43:52 Black Racer reminds me of Super Grover
Orion getting decked in the face and instantly folding might be one of my favorite bits from y’all
So now I just think Ben Grimm AND Dr Strange are voiced by Jack Kirby haha!!!!
"I AM DORMAMUUUUUU!!!"
"Ahhhh screw you!!!"
The classic battle!!!!!
Man, imagine if the monsters Inc. universe could tap into the power of apocalypse.
Thank you, George Pérez
Darkseid vs Thor sound so cool, why did this thought have to be put into my head
How many stories about Galactus stories have a title of "The Hunger"?
Re: the point about The Eternals not really fitting in Marvel cosmology.
Jack Kirby created the Eternals, Deviants, and Celestials for the Eternals comic, and the original run was not written to be set in the Marvel universe. It became retroactively a part of continuinity (although certain parts don't really line up) when the Eternals and their city came up in other comics after that original series finished.
Yay!! I’ve wanted this on Back Issue forever!
We're getting a DC Sonic the Hedgehog crossover before another Marvel DC crossoever
That's tragic lol
DEEP cut. I am that nerd who has multiple copies of this
Apocalypse… Now where brainiac attacks apocalypse on JL is very close in premise and execution
😂Oh! This looks like it's going to be a doozy. I didn't even know this existed.
I love forgetting Wednesday is Back Issues day so I get to be super excited when I see a new episode.
9:59 I assume you just feed the old parademons to the new ones.
This would have been better if Galactus finds no real life on Apokalips and Darkseid leads him to New Genesis and end with a battle at the Source Wall
That would be a Darkseid move. "Hey there is this nice shiny utopia planet over there ripe for eating....."
I've been jonesing for more dc marvel crossovers so thank you so much for this episode! I'm still hopeful for another one, someday!
I feel like Darkseid, being a "new" god, is seeing Galactus as the old reigning heavyweight champ of the universe, and thinking to himself, "I bet I can take him."
First day of the season in GA cold enough to break out the comic pop hoodie!
I like to imagine Dr. Strange with a thick Delco accent. "By the Beating Wings of the Iggles! GOWE BURDS!"
para-demons, you gotta let em cook man
Another week another woo for comic pop!
Speaking of Orion I was really liked how in Young Justice they had Orion as effectively autistic and that's why he struggles to communicate well, his emotional reactions are unpredictable to others, he prefers to precisely follow rules, and he likes the repetitive pinging from mother box. Very unusual interpretation but one that mostly fits with the character.
Great vid again all. On a side note nice shirt Sal. I don’t know why but that astonishing x-men cover is burned into my brain
Oooooh! I’ve always heard of this one! I’m so excited to watch this!!!
I can see your knees 😂😂😂
Ah yes I remember owning this comic in high school and reading quite often. It’s definitely a fun read🤌
ayye this is earliest I've ever been to a vid!!!
About the Thing tangent: I read somewhere (so you don't have to believe it) that he's more or less a 1:1 of Jack Kirby. Not just the voice, but the personality as well. Like Ben Grimm is Jack Kirby personified into Marvel Universe and he's just this guy with a heart the size of a planet and grit to back it up.
I remember seeing in a Comic Tropes episode that he had personal drawings of Ben celebrating Hanukkah before his Judaism was made canon.
"Our minds cannot cognitive our own demise." Someone read too much Burns right there
New York accent Doctor Strange is hilarious
Thank you Sal
I can't eat that planet! Brainiac took a bite out of it.
I could've sworn you guys did this one already, but I don't mind.
But what is a ship to a god(?) 🦇
I was thrilled when you called back to the Batman/Superman generations, a very underrated elseworld series. I never read the cap crossover, but I read all the rest. I would love you to cover that on back issues, it is an interesting look into the characters and Byrne
I Love these new intros Sal & Co Also Darksied vs Galactus hmmm not the Crossover i wanna see rather Darksied take on Thanos espically after hearing what he been up to
33:50 Apollo's chariot!
I want to see an adult cartoon animated series set on this earth were Marvel and DC hero's co exist. Purpleman would be a great villain for every member of the justice league. Superman fighting to protect mutant rights would be a good never ending struggle for him. The reason Paradise Island has a no men rule is a time traveling Purpleman was there years ago.
Of course Galactus has a ship, it's where he keeps all his stuff. Could you see him floating thru space with a hobo sack on a stick?
Dear Sal, for the love of God, please, please explain the Living Tribunal. my first and only experience with this character was DC versus Marvel and I know nothing else except that he’s equivalent to the Spector.
I am only watching Halloween related youtube videos right now so I am going to skip this for now but still wanted to come and give this a like for support
The G was for Goofy looking
The Superman Fantastic Four Crossover is literally the Superman Vs Galactus pitch from what I remember. Superman becomes a Herald etc
@comicpop - Have you ever read the Stan Lee or Jack Kirby biographies by Tom Scioli?
I picked them up from my local library and it was a cool read. It's an illustrated collection of interviews on Stan Lee and one on Jack Kirby. You get their whole life, and I find it paints a great picture of them as people.
Tom Scioli also did a FF book that basically summarizes the first 100 issues or so.
Dr Strange being stumped or the spells not working because someone is questioning the phrasing of the cast is funny. What about em?
i love yall shows
Why don’t we just have the Wrecking Crew invade Apokolips? That’s what the kids really want to read.
....just that moment of Darkseid going "yeah you better run!" while he obviously lost. like I cant stand but you know whatever. also @comicpop can you start putting backissues on podcast platforms, it would be way easier to enjoy your hour long show on my way to work.
Holy shit, Kirby does sound like The Thing.
I like the ship because it is tied in to Galactus' origin, and if he has to use a machine to eat he needs one to travel too. Also it explains why the herald goes in front I suppose the herald is unencumbred through space at top speed while Galctus lumbers around in a cruiser.
5:22 imagine if Death and Darkseid were actually flirting w each other and Thanos was just watching on his throne in Titan.
You could put any Jack Kirby creation under a microscope and see some part of him, but I think the two characters that feel like they come from somewhere deep within Kirby is The thing, and the hulk
kind of funny that Byrne went out of his way to homage Kirby considering Kirby helped create Booster Cogburne to criticize and make fun of Byrne.
I want to go back to that Earth where Marvel and DC existing together. Think about the stories that could happen.
So in an old New Gods book there was an issue where Orion finds an old relic of the old gods, and even shows panels similar to an issue of Thor. Originally Kirby wanted to kill Asgard and all of it's people and have Ragnarok happen. The first page of Orion's original book showed scenes of the Thor book. So essentially in the mind of Kirby the Third World was Asgard and Marvel's Thor etc. Then Ragnarok happened and what remained was New Genesis and Apokolips. I always found that idea quite fun.
The Apokalips precursor people are Asguardians! In all but name at least. Kirby wanted to end his run on Thor with Ragnarok, and the death of all the gods. Of course Marvel didn't allow him to kill them off. But his origin story for the New Gods, and what makes them "new", is that they're replacing the old gods who died in, essentially, Ragnarok! Kirby's old gods are the Asguardians, so super cool to see some of that connection in the art of this book.
Thanos is always getting cucked by somebody… usually Deadpool.
I swear watching back issues is like snorting a line of good vibes.
So this is like a five minute fight, and 4:50 of Galactus parking over Apocalypse before Darkseid uses his Omega beams?
Amazon took my money so the books gotta be coming happy Halloween Sal
Why not Darkseid vs Apocalypse?
Another classic. I'll have to check out some Kirby interviews to hear Grimm's voice as intended.
Darkseid exists outside of reality where Galactus’ power is limited to his universe.
Pretty sure the creator of Thanos has said that he was a pastiche of darkseid, and when he was creating the artwork for him Stan lee said something to the effect of "if you are going to rip him off, you might as well lean into it". The line about Thanos being a pale imitation from marvel versus DC was likely a sly nod to this fact. Though of course, I'd say that Thanos is his own character because he's not really like darkseid but it took until the Jim starling books for this to really be the case.
We basically said this.
@@comicpop you guys never outright said that there are official statements that confirm this. Of course, these are the creators talking versus editorial (given thanos' popularity in the MCU I doubt anybody at Disney would ever admit his connection to darkseid). I'm more or less just clarifying things for anybody in the comments who doesn't know. Anyway, great episode as always.
* Apokalipis throws all the weapons at Galactus *
Darkseid: "watch these rend Galactus!"
* nothing happens *
Dasaad: "OH SHIT!"
Darksied: "Interesting"
I'm with Tiffany on the ship/no ship thing
Oh snap it's happening
I love this video but where did you get your AOA shirt?
