    These guys never cease to entertain. It’s awesome to have been able to witness the evolution of this channel and the four personalities that carry it. I remember back when the dynamic of the series was basically Sal explaining comic books to his best friends who didn’t read comics. Now it’s Sal and his wife basically explaining the state and history of the comic book industry as it relates to the comic book story they want to talk about that day to their best friends who are now more versed in comic book culture than they ever imagined they’d be and yet are still amazed by how bonkers these stories can get.
    I absolutely love it here.

      Wonder Woman is like the Halloween sequels. Only Perez's original run is the most canon (except when it deals with the promblematic elements involving Cheetah and the Bana Migdall Amazons), that all future writers refer back to. Where each run builds on the Wonder Woman origin, by doing their own altered version of Perez origin, discover a new way to wipe all the amazons (so the next writer can then bring them back) and create more legacy characters that 50/50 will be forgotten in time, or brought up again after several new writers jumped on (see Vanessa Kapetalis).

    I’m baffled by how much of a joke Artemis was back in the day. I got into DC with the New 52, so the Artemis I read about while getting into comics gave me the impression that she was like a super important rival character to Diana… But no. Apparently she was just invented to die and be a laughing stock. I’m glad they eventually brought her back and made her actually cool. This is wild to me.

    The 90s were a period of time that tested out replacing many traditionally virtuous and aspirational Superheroes with edgier and often times more villainous versions of themselves. Superman's 4 Replacements, Jean-Paul Valley Batman, Professor Xavier becoming Onslaught, Hal Jordan turning to Parallax and Peter Parker being replaced by his clone just to name a handful. Regardless of how good or bad this trend was in hindsight; it was interesting to see what personas they thought could fill in for their predecessors. Connor Kent Superboy and later Artemis are my favorite creations from this era.

    A great episode, always happy when ComicPop does a Wonder Woman story, especially an older one. Interestingly, this is the second time that a red headed amazon challenged Diana for the right of being Wonder Woman, beat her for the title, struggled with being Wonder Woman in man's world, (while Diana sticks around and keeps being a super hero) and then dies. That story was about 2 issues, I think somewhere between the second time Steve Trevor died and a Steve Trevor from another universe took his place, pre-crisis. of course. Weird that this story happened twice.

      Black Manta forced him to fight Tempest to the death so he could save his son from suffocation, only for that to fail, resulting in Tempest’s and Aquaman’s partnership to be permanently damaged because Aquaman tried to kill Tempest; Mera leaving him because she couldn’t rely on him to keep her or their child safe; and just to rub salt in the wound, Manta destroyed the infant’s grave at the funeral. This was before the death of Superman though, but it could be argued the whole losing his hand to piranhas might have been the best attempt at it.

    Thank you again ComicPOP for bring us these class... Hmm... Interesti... *Caught*... Entertaining comics. Seeing all those panels and the fantastic reactions to the sheer madness of it all was great😂👍.
    While I'm not sure it was intentional. The way Artemis replaces Diana but then only does things entirely contrived by a marketing team while Diana is the one who engages in the actually plot. Only for Artemis to die because she's not good enough to beat a random foe Diana immediately stomps. Actually feels like a really meta commentary about the concept of replacing characters solely as a marketing ploy🤔😄.
    Lastly, when Hippolyta revealed the prophecy I thought to myself that maybe WW only dies because a less competent person was in the role but I honestly thought that the prophecy was just meant to be one of those vague future things to make drama but that wasn't actually going to happen during any story. I didn't think that it would play out and that I'd totally be right🤣🤣🤣.

  • @nathanhall9345
    @nathanhall9345 Год назад +1

    If you told me in a single paragraph the concept of Hippolyta orchestrating a political rival taking over the Wonder Woman title to fulfill a prophesied death of Wonder Woman, Diana uncovering mistakes in her mother's past that has shaped their people, and a new tragic hero to fill the Wonder Woman spot...that sounds awesome. It should have been awesome. But not enough time and dedication to the cool parts.
