  • BMW’s electric offensive continues as the first-ever BMW iX1 has now hit the assembly line in Germany at the Regensburg Plant. In this video, you will see how the BMW iX1 is manufactured alongside conventionally powered models with gasoline and diesel engines as well as plug-in hybrid derivatives. All roll off a single assembly line for the first time, but gradually, EVs will take over.
For the time being, BMW is making the BMW iX1 exclusively as an xDrive30 model with dual motors delivering a combined output of 313 horsepower (230 kilowatts) and 364 pound-feet (494 Newton-meters) of torque. The electric punch allows the company’s smallest EV to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.6 seconds.

Yes, but when are going to be shipping on orders placed in October-as right now I haven't got a build date?
Admittedly, based on my experience in the laptop industry -and what is an EV but a laptop with wheels and ambitions- you don't want to be in the first batch off the line. Those are implicitly the final test systems.
At least with all the instrumentation BWM should be able to do a lot of remote monitoring of those units, identify problems from charging to ABS and then push out OTA updates.
I can imagine a future world where the first thing you do when you get a new car is wait for it to download all the updates while you sit in the driver set pressing OK to all those terms and conditions screens which will appear at random intervals during the process
