I see that this video is getting some traction nowadays. Please consider that this one is 6 years old! If you´re looking for real time lessons, look at my recent videos. At the time I made it to the best of my abillities but my more recent videos are better quality.
Thank You SO MUCH for showing the picture you are working from! So many tutorials don't show the picture they are working from which makes the video pointless. This is a wonderful video!!
Wow you are an amazing artist !! I love drawing animals and I'm doing art courses with an American artist & illustrator and so far I'm using graphite but I want to do other mediums. I did 1 lesson on coloured pencil in my 1st course on drawing. I was pleased that it came out okay for my 1st one. He has a coloured pencil course which I will do later on ad I'm doing pen & ink course st present. Thanks again for these videos xxx
I really enjoyed your detailed tutorial. I prefer the normal speed rather than the fast speed which is difficult to discern what colors and techniques are being used. Your tutorial was quite informative. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this for us beginners. Your artwork is stunning!
Thanks Leontine for posting this video! I always learn so much from your tutorials, and how well you thoroughly describe how you do what you do. I hope that you are well soon!
I just found you--you deserve so much more attention that you get!! These aren't just amazing, they're masterpieces already!! (I smashed the subscribe button ;) )
Absolutely amazing! I’ve just bought the 120 polychromos set, so came here to learn techniques. I’m not sure I would have bought them had I seen this video first - I can’t imagine I’d be anywhere near as good. I want to do either a giraffe or a donkey for my friend’s birthday. I’d like to use my toned paper too - wish me luck! ☺️
*GASP* I WANNA TOUCH IT, ITS SO FLUFFY ;w; REEEE, help, I wanna touch it! Because that how great she is, by your drawings and colourings, I’m getting much better by watching you :P
Excellent video. I've avoided coloring fur, as the process seems daunting. Your video came up as #1 on my search attempt. An embossing tool seems necessary, big time saver. I'll purchase one today. Your concise & friendly teaching style helps me believe the process is attainable. Sketching out of the 'map' of the shadows now seems like a no brainier. But never crossed my mind. I see now how important a reference photo is. The various fur you demonstrated were unique, your talent & knowledge are evident. I'm happy to subscribe to your channel.
What a brilliant tutorial - have you done anything similar to show how you’d do lion fur? Suspect may be similar techniques as used for not the cat fur & the final ( lemur fur I think)
I would love to see a demo of a dog with coarse wild hair like a schnauzer, they provide a real challenge. I also struggle with making a horse look smooth while still having hair texture.
These were so beautiful and insane. I needed help to get the fur for the lion I'm drawing and the dog furs you drew really helped out with that 😭tysm you're amazing! 💖✨
I’ve just had a look at your other tutorials and can see one re: lion fur so even though I’m using colour pencil & the tutorial uses pastel pencils, guessing the process is the same?
Hmmm could this be the perfect tutorial for fur ? :) from the thumbnail it looks goood . If you teach step by step all those 8 furs then It must be really useful. I'm gonna watch it and see 😜. Fingers crossed #
Im putting down the pin striping and lettering for a while and Im gonna learn colored pencils because I've always wanted to. So I just bought a set of Albert Durer water pencils and will soon acquire a set of polychromos. I would like to by them to support your channel but also have to keep price in mind. Do you have a video of basic equipment to buy and do you like Holbein colored pencils?
I am really having trouble doing English cocker spaniel ears like how its really wavy I really need help with ears or if you can just tell me some tips would be very helpful
Look at the shapes! Try to only see the different shapes in the ear and copy those. Start with just mapping out those shapes and nothing else. Then after that you can start adding color. The contrast is the most important so focus on lights and darks!
I haven't picked up a luminance pencil yet...but been practising with a white prismacolor or Fabre C. I find defining hair strokes difficult after this....so neither I'm pressing too hard with the white pencil? And should we only use the luminance on the lighter areas??
I was so confused in why my fur was not looking like this at all and now I see the big difference, I just tend to want to blend and not add any details and I don't go in the direction of the fur and my pencils are not pointy
I don't know how many times she sharpened her pencils, but when you're Just colouring the base of the drawing it don't have to be sharp. It has to be sharp when you're working On Details of the fur , the top layer, Single hair. I hope that you would understand sth of this 😅
What do you do if you're a couple of layers in and make a mistake? Wouldn't you have to start over completely? It's not like you can just erase the most recent layer like in a drawing program, so I feel like I could never go back to drawing on paper... Spending so much time on it and then making one mistake and having to start from scratch, I'd probably never pick up a pencil again? It takes so much time and then it was all for nothing...
Usually mistakes can be corrected! Though it depends on the type of mistake. Sometimes slight color mistakes can be worked over or erased if you do it carefully. I've had to start over on portraits on several occasions. Eventually you become so well trained that mistakes rarely happen anymore or you find ways to correct them. It's part of the process!
Hi..Leontine..Can you make a tutorial of how to draw 3D SCALP SHAVED Hair if you have time.I am just a newbie. I am fascinated with human hair position and style (long, short or shaved) can change a person looks of attraction and presentable . The scalp shaved hair is actually dotting (adding dots) on the scalp area from crown to frontal line going down as 0.35 mm , 0.30 mm and 0.25 mm tip pencils. So as the side of the scalp and back of the scalp in the same manner of dotting. But here is a catch: That is I know a human SKULL is formed of plates/planes The plates/planes decide the light and shade of the drawing look 3D or realistic. Example is that back of the (human) head where the crown to the middle part of the ear horizontal imaginary line has a slop plate/plane and from the horizontal line that downward to the neck has an upward plate/plain. To look more realistic shaved hair scalp I am not sure which gauge of the pencil to be used especially for that second plate/plane. We also have to consider the side plates/plane (window peak) area too. . Cheers
Zal ik zeker eens doen! In de video's die ik upload op www.patreon.com/LeontinevanVliet leg ik trouwens wel alles uit op het gebied van kleuren kiezen voor dit soort tekeningen!
In my real time tutorials I always explain. This one is sped up so this one is more to give a quick overview of how to build up these textures. For a full walkthrough, I'd suggest my Patreon! And also, learning which colors to pick is all experience based as well. The more you do it, the better you'll know:)
Hi! I see this video a year ago, and I Love this Video a lot! This is very important to me because in this moment I'm practicing this excercise, and I have struggle with the fur. When you do the fur, I see you draw between the highlight area with a dark color, and I don't know why I can do those tiny lines. I am very interested that you make a video in real time, to be able to see in detail, how you do that. I will be very grateful! 🥰🤍❤
Thank you! I have loads of real time videos in colored pencil here on my channel😃 but if you want to have this one in real time I'd suggest signing up on my website. I upload every single drawing I make in real time on there, so that's where you find the most information about drawing fur😀

These are wonderful!! Do you use any type of eye dropper program to find the precise colors ? Ty
Hi Tracy! No I don't use any programs. I choose colors based on experience and it's basiaclly always some sort of trial and error! :)
@@Leontinevanvliet They are wonderful. I would never have thought to use purple in the black fur, but it obviously works. Great tips & advice.

How many shades of pencil colours do you have?
Bonjour, cette technique est-elle la même avec l'utilisation des crayons pastel. Merci de me répondre.
Wowwww
What material is used at 25:18 to smooth?
A white caran d'ache luminance pencil
Amazing I liked a lot . Its looking real . I am first one to comment 👍👍👍👍👍🤩🤗🤗👍👍👍👍👍
