Did you recover the refrigerant first? Did you tape off AC lines when removed to not allow moisture in the system? Just wondering because I’m doing mine soon
Did you change your compressor? My compressor still works fine, but I'm looking to upgrade it with one that has variable valves or whatever they're called. (Modern compressors mk5 or above have it) - When idling or driving regularly the AC barely keeps up, it's blowing cold, but not freezing cold. - When I'm driving at high RPM or on the highway at high speed it freezes my ass off.
@@curbsidemechanic3229 :) on my Golf MK IV 1.6 16v when the AC compressor is engaged I suffer a drastic power loss that perhaps could be mitigate using a more efficient compressor
Hey my guy, fantastic video! I'm going to try and bypass my a/c compressor as it hasn't worked for years. I believe it's causing a very loud squeak and I heard it in your car as well. Just wondering did it go away when you replaced it, hard to hear the second time you started it?
@Jonas Bousqhad I had to change the Starter to resolve the squealing issue. I believe that it was going bad on me so I changed it before it died on me.
Hey Cory, Sorry I am just now getting back to you. I thought I was going to have time to actually go out and work on one of the cars. I will post a video just for you showing exactly where I place my Jack Stands while working on the car.
@@curbsidemechanic3229 I have a friend who has a 2000 Golf VW with exactly the same engine and I have had been working on it for two years. I did his water pump, his starter, radiator fan just a few days ago and now, I have to do his AC compressor. Is why, I watched your video. I will double check to see how it goes and will get back to you. I see your idler arm moving back and forth which it shouldn't. On the his AC, I did his expansion valve and it cooled very good for a while. Then, it stopped cooling. So, I put his AC drier bottle and again it cooled for a day. Then, it stopped cooling. It has no leaks.. Then, I bought the AC manifold gauges; What I noticed was the pressure stay the same when I raise engine speed. So, I figured that the compressor isn't pumping. Because, the High pressure line doesn't get hot at all Am I right to suggest that the compressor is bad? It engages and all. But, I think it's too weak. Does your compressor when it engages stays engaged all the time? Or does it cycles on and off. His compressor stays on at all times.
Bruh which angle did you come from for the high side and low side hoses on back of compressor?? If you show what angle you come from and then show components out of vehicle would’ve made this video dope other than that... I give it a 7
No Doubt, if I ever have to change one again I will film the entire process. I am working on getting better equipment to provide the best quality videos possible. To answer your question, I stood in front of the vehicle to remove the high and low hoses off of the compressor.
LOL Mr Morgan, I ended up changing it for a new one. I didn't want to find myself pushing the car to pop the clutch. Thank you for taking time to view this video. There will be more to come...
@@curbsidemechanic3229 Those are a known problem in Mk4's. My r32 has gone through 2 of them! I'm gonna do a compressor this summer, thanks for the video!
Thanks for the video, I gotta do mine this weekend
You are welcome.

@@Buciasda33 I swapped in a new compressor, it was frozen up at first but it finally broke free and it works perfect
I wonder if there is a way to replace the stock AC compressor with a new one more "powerful", sort of "upgrade"
That would be Super Cool. You would have to be careful it would probably feel like you were in the freezer 😆.

I think you have that serpentine belt installed improperly. Check it out before it break on you.
How do you recommend I put it on?

Looks like your tensioner is wearing out too
Yes, I noticed that as well. I just changed it within the last 6 months. I can't remember where I got it from.

Replace dogbone mount bushings
Need to remove the negative connector first dude!
Did you vaccum the old Freon out or do you not have to?
Yes, You don't want to risk breathing any of that in. Take your car to a shop or you can buy an evap Vacuum pretty cheap.
Lol. With no refrigerant, you do not have AC
Did he remove the whole intake manifold or is it on bro didn’t give no additional info just the basics terrible video
