As promised, I've circled back on FLO, the rising young UK-based girl group who is slowly but surely taking on the girl power mantle. After reacting to their "Fly Girl" music video, it was clear that there was more to see. While I wasn't overwhelmingly impressed with the group's performance, mostly enamored by the icon that is Missy Elliott, I did see raw talent and enormous potential. I'm no Simon Cowell, but I think I have an idea of what it looks like when a superstar is being born.
Even though it's been two months, I am happy to say that FLO impressed me enormously in their live performances. Their individual vocal abilities equally shine and then come together perfectly for a smooth, melodic blend. Both of these live performances proved to me that these girls can sing, like really sing. While I do think their styling has room for improvement, I'm sure their look will continue to evolve as they grow as a group. They are all beautiful girls who know what to do with a microphone. In terms of stage presence, I definitely see major star quality and a love for performing in Renée (who I jokingly dubbed 'the chocolate girl'), which only makes me nervous because I feel like girl groups inevitably end with someone wanting to go solo.
My only critique that stands about this group is the choreography. Even though I wasn't overly impressed with the dancing in these live performances, I still don't think it hinders their set. I like their commitment to what they do, but I do think some male background dancers will only add to the appeal of their movements. As of right now, I think the industry needs a girl group in the mix and these girls could be the answer to our pop music prayers!
But again, what do I know?!? We'll be watching, and I'm excited to see what FLO offers us next.

It’s no shade at all. They’re not a dance group. Their main focus will always be vocals and they have the vocals to command a stage. Performance wise, they will get better. Jorja (the tall one) was a bit nervous on Jimmy Fallon. They’re still quite young and new to this and I’m sure their dancing will improve. Despite that, they’re doing good imo
I think they’re doing great!!! Super talented new group with enormous potential. I agree that they’re not a dance group, which is why the dance break on the Tonight Show threw me off lol. They’re pretty flawless vocally, definitely gives them an edge up.
i feel like you need to react to all the DSCVR performances, there's no backup dancers or even much dancing but they're still my favourite performances from them
Oooooooh ok!! I’m gonna check those out. I feel like I’ll do another reaction when they do a bigger performance like an awards show. I don’t wanna come off harsh if I don’t see enough movement going on 😂

I love my girls FLO so much🥺 the vocals are always vocaling and the music is great. I feel sometimes the nerves and pressure hit when they are performing but those are natural things that sometimes happens when you are performing in front of many people but they always try to do their best, they still have time to keep working on their craft cuz I know they can do it so much better serve more confidently. This is the first video I watched from your channel I love the editing and your attitude period 🫶💅

Jorja (the tall one) and Renee (the shortest one) are both half Jamaican and Stella's (the middle height) dad is from Mozambique, i think she grew up speaking Portuguese?

I agree with your commentary here. I do think its really smart that they are focusing a lot on their vocals and synergy the first year of their debut. Thats important. The blend and voices are there, the content is there. Especially nowadays, unfortunately, artists dont get that artist development like Danity Kane, PCD, TLC, 3LW, etc did. Lets not even mention Destinys Child who's been training all their lives. So I think they will step shit up and improve over time. However, like u mentioned, it is clear they are not DANCER dancers. So I wouldnt like for them to force what isn't there. Spice Girls weren't dancers. 702 weren't. And if we're being honest, Destiny's Child didnt really showcase real solid choreo until their last era. Prior to that, it was very minor dance moves here and there. They just had a very strong stage presence, led of course by Beyonce.
BUTTTT something recently just happened. Sean Bankhead (choreographer for Normani, Victoria Monet, Megan Thee Stallion, etc) just started following FLO and its rumored that he may be their new choreographer for the new era and the debut album roll out thats about to happen. So something to keep our eyes on.

This song definitely shines in a live format but Not My Job and Losing You feel like they would be more your vibe. Losing you gives classic rnb and not my job is definitely fun like Fly Girl but more vocally demanding

They SING. PERIOD. they are an RnB GIRL GROUP. not a POP group. Their focus is the vocals and the fact that their mics are on..which the other group you mentioned can't say...
Oh I love it! Incredible vocals!! Love that the mics are always on. But if they’re not a pop group, the dance breaks should maybe get reconsidered then. 🤷🏾♂️
@MalcolmSoaries I think they do just enough dancing so that they're not just on the stage looking foolish lol. But this is one of the new acts that actually has gone thru the necessary boot camp n stuff. I think "boom kats" would take away from what they want to portray. Nostalgic music with real harmonies and most importantly RnB. They've made it very clear that they are NOT pop lol ❤️

This was a great review! That MTV Push was PHENOMENAL. I wasn't really feeling the Tonight Show one, mainly because the meh dancing took some of the wind out of their incredible vocals. But yeah, FLO has the potential to do something really great. They clearly have financial investment and connections through folks like MNEK. I'm curious and excited to see where they take this music thing.

Honestly, you should have picked their Fly Girl performance at Capital Summertime Ball to see the girls TRULY hit the choreography. That stage had some killer moves, especially during the dance break. Those outfits during Jimmy Fallon were holding them back for sure.

@@MalcolmSoaries would love to hear your thoughts! they tend to do a lot more choreo at their live shows rather than the vevos performances I assume so they can focus on vocal performance! for example feature me, control freak and immature has really great choreo if you can find videos from their tour or a festival!
