Yes I agree, ALWAYS take payment in advance. I make custom order links in my Etsy with the price of the order and details, and don’t get started until they place the order. Even with family and friends.
Yup, it's hard at the beginning, all of it is hard at the beginning. Hang in there. Lots of good info on RUclips. I did outdoor events, mostly fall and winter. It seemed it would rain on the day/days I had a Markey. So, I purchased 3 standard some clear shower curtains and the hangers. I would attach them to my canopy and roll the up and secure then with ribbon and a slip knot. That way, if it rained it was east to drop od curtains and keep my stuff dry. The other vendors loved the idea. Good luck with everything!!
I have my first market on the 21st and I am SO glad I saw this comment now! Grabbing shower curtains on my next supply run 10000% because in NE Ohio the weather will switch up in minutes. THANK YOU!!!!!
I have used some heavy duty safety pins to pin things to tableclothes before - I haven't done markets or have a banner but for other events I have been at - safety pins can be helpful!
Can you share any ideas of what printing service to use for the table runner? I know of Canva and vista print, I want a good one! It’s definitely a investment, thanks so much 🧶❤️😃
I did all of my logo designing on canva and then uploaded it and ordered the runner banner through Amazon: amzn.to/430SOZL !! The price was decent and I’ve been really happy with it!💕
Thank you for sharing. I am gearing up for my first market and have so many questions. Do you charge sales tax on items at a market? Some markets seem to specify that you do and others are not as clear.
You’re legally supposed to charge sales tax and if you don’t, you might have to cover that tax yourself when you file your taxes at the end of the year but it’s pretty easy to set up sales tax in the square app! There’s a lot of great RUclips videos on how to do so!
Good tips! I’m curious, did you sort of test the waters before starting your business, or did you just jump right in with a business license, credit card reader, etc?
Thank you! So I started pretty quickly with Etsy, small markets, and signing up for Square (to take card payments). Square sends you a free card reader when you sign up! But most events that I’ve signed up for do not require a business license/insurance etc. so I don’t think those are things you need to get right away!
I had a bunch of shows with other crocheters but they didnt do plushies they did household things
I think that’s totally okay if everyone is selling different types of crochet products for sure!!
