What I hate hearing from some people is "are you poor" when talking about Home and this DLC.
It's like I have the money, but I don't want to spend it on a service that is very lacking or doesn't even deserve it.

Like DK said in the video itself, the new Pokemon are technically added for free, but you have very little ability to actually access them unless you either buy the DLC or pay the subscription fee for Home. Neither of which would be a big issue if the GTS were still around, but because that feature got axed arbitrarily...

XL B I’m pretty sure The Pokémon Company is a separate entity from Game Freak, though Game Freak does have the only majority share in The Pokémon Company so they probably make and influence many corporate decisions inside TPC.

Incredible how pokemon games are right now trash and baits. Honestly, i'm truly grateful for the "old games", that was great moments. But SS are the most awful pokemon main games i've never seen. Not only for cash grab, but everything i loved in pokemon is screwed. And i cannot even enjoy the animation, because it's so bad with pop up… I truly regret the time, when aleatory encounter were still there. And the compatibility with old cartridges? Damned good, for gen 3, 4 and 5. Even the gen 6 gave me a nice gen 3 remake, fully compatible with gen 6. And now people applause a game, where you constantly buy new content for the SAME GAME, when you buy 3x the price of the previous system (Bank) for the new (Home), to have same result, and still you can't import because they will be stuck in Home until they are available on the current 8g game, and if you don't pay constantly the subscription, they will be deleted, even if no current game give the possibility to import them, and you can't send them to the origin 7gen cartridge either…
Pokemon truly is garbage nowadays… Less content, bad animation, pay multiple times, linear without ANY obstacles, no elite four, just a bunch of ATHLETES… And a football star as a master… So sad (:

The old games were 40 dollars, so even buying two of the same game in past generations was cheaper than Sword and Shield with DLC. Past experiences were better, cheaper, and had more content. Sword and Shield continues to be a ripoff and it's scummy that the two hundred pokemon addition completely destroys the original excuses they gave for not keeping all of the pokemon.
You know, we can debate all year, with calm and good examples, the franchise is no more between hands of fans who care, but between casuals or newbies who explain to you why you're wrong and categorize you as a hater, even if you supported the games during an amount of time who is longer than their own existence. So, i don't see any good reason to discuss with apologists, even when you show them facts, they have like a rupture in their brain, and start to discredit you from fallacious reasons or else. So, from my perspective, it's more accurate to replay previous gen and games. The franchise will self destruct and blow up at certain point, and i don't want to see that, because i care, but i can't do anything. The entire "community" is actually a brand new one, and i don't want to be include, because i love pokemon, and they don't.

I just wish the older games weren't so expensive. I would love to play gen 4-5 on my 2ds xl, because ds emulators kinda suck, but I cannot because they're ridiculously expensive and can't be played on the VC. Not to mention, why is there no GBA VC? Pokemon Yellow is the best selling game on the 3ds eshop, surely Game Freak knows how much VC games sell.

I still remember when people were making excuses for why they couldn't add the rest of the pokedex. Whether it was space issues on the switch, balancing issues, or anything under the sun, this whole DLC fiasco has just debunked ALL OF THAT SHIT. They had the full power to add the whole pokedex, this proves it, but they didn't for shady and greedy reasons. Really annoying and frustrating

Sword and Shield: reused 3ds assets, static sprites, no story, boring characters who interrupt you every 5 seconds, 600 Pokemon. 60$ game + 30$ dlc + $20 online + 5$ dollar home. 95$ for less content then a dsi game

I much prefer the idea of dlc being added instead of a third version, the problem I have with it is that this is being done with these games, games that were already lacking in content.
Either way you're wasting your money.
I'd rather have a third version that fixes everything than have to pay over a hundred bucks for the full experience.
It's not bad to add onto a game with DLC. It IS bad to force people to pay just to get valuable content after they purchased the base game. Or to give them an overpriced DLC that does not give valuable content to the base game.
And on that you shouldn't have to pay for every DLC. It's more than reasonable to add content through patches and free DLC to improve your games. It shows your consumers and fans that you care. And GameFreak hasn't proved they care for awhile now.

It's even worse when you consider a lot of people that aren't gamers play Nintendo games. Like my dad for example, the only games he ever plays is Pokemon and Zelda and I don't have the heart to tell him not to buy the dlc because he loves Pokemon and has been playing it with me for years. It's the casual fans that don't keep up with gaming news and don't know any better that I really feel sorry for.

I can handle a very slow growing franchise. As a Nintendo fan Im used to games feeling like they're a few years behind lol...But Gamefreak is inconsistent and nonlinear. There's no growth. They keep hitting the reset button. It's like they aren't learning from previous entries. Black and White was such a great step in the right direction..and they've been fumbling ever since.
Have you realized that since the release of Gen 7, there's been a major pokemon release every year since SW/SH's release? That's 4 games within the span of 4 years.

They managed to create the technology of having more than 400 pokemon in the same game. Scientists are still trying to figure out how they did it.
The argument was 2 fold 1 they didn't have the time with deadline to add more pokemon and two it was to balance the game.
Competitive got through a season before this add was done and now adding back in additional pokemon to the meta game is going to create a new balance again. The time after the initial release allowed for more models to be finished and some form of balancing to be done with the pokemon to be released.
Am I happy about this not really but it wasn't all lies. GTS I can understand people having issues with I do as well but this is GTS for all pokemon games in the future. It sucks as it is a nominal charge but it can be used for free with limited space if I recall correctly. The event pokemon having accessibility via full priced titles is annoying but we were given events where we could catch the pokemon without spending more money.
Online play being a subscription is Nintendo's fault not game freak. Is it concerning the course gamefreak seems to be heading? Yes, but some of the added features could literally be claimed to have been rushed and added because of previous complaints. I personally think we just need to give our feedback and see how they continue to operate. If they continue in a direction you don't like then don't support the company with your money.

It honestly really sickens me how Nintendo was ok of releasing these games so half-assed & unfinished. There's no denying that these games were clearly rushed out for the holidays sales & clearly needed more development time. Yeah I know GameFreak were the ones who developed these games & the Pokemon company are the ones in charge of the release dates, but I feel Nintendo is also the blame for this, since I feel they really should've stepped in & demanded the games to be delayed, because releasing a $60 Triple A game that are this unpolished, half-assed & unfinished is just unacceptable, especially when compared to other triple A Switch games that had alot of polish, time & passion put into like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey & Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Nintendo need to act fast. If they don't do anything about what Gamefreak and Creatures Inc. are content with shitting out, then they're going to lose one of their major pillars of profit. All three parts of The Pokémon Company are making a lot of money, but only Nintendo has the sheer size, experience, strategy and foresight to realise that this series is on the brink, and if they don't do anything towards making the games more acceptable, then Gamefreak will take it one step too far and suddenly the series will come crashing down.
Admittedly, that outcome might swing in Nintendo's favour, since they would probably be the only one of the three that could still be financially stable without the success of Pokémon, allowing them to either purchase the rights to the entire franchise or even liquidate the other two in the case that they become completely bankrupt. Perhaps Nintendo are intentionally letting quality slide in the hopes that they get to swoop in and claim Pokémon as a whole.
Either way, a Pokémon game that is given even half of the attention Nintendo gives to its first party titles sounds great to me.
What’s sad is that they set up their own deadlines, all for profit. No one’s forcing them to stick by it.
They could easily postpone production on new-gen merch, they won’t lose fan loyalty by making us wait a few more years, if it means we’ll get a quality game worth our time and money.
Not to mention fire emblem 3 houses with quality animations better than pokemon
Nintendo has little say so in this situation because the Pokémon company owns most of the property.

I'm not mad at The Pokémon Company, I'm mad at every single corporate white knight that feels like it's too much for a 18.3 BILLION COMPANY to send out a full game with all the Pokémon in it because, "We have too many Pokémon in the game so it's silly to think they can add all of them". If you think like this, type down 18 Billion, look at how many zeroes that number has and how many more people they could have hired to "lighten the load", look up how many game companies have way less value than Nintendo has and publishes games with far more content, if you still think Nintendo did nothing wrong with Sword and Shield, ask yourself why do you suck.
Let's be real, more pokemon with dlc? Asking for money for a new version of GTS which has always been free? Nintendo is basically copying Apple's move to remove the headphone jack and then sell the adapter separately, they are creating problems to capitalise on solutions.

It is genuinely very sad to see where pokemon is going. especially when i voice my concerns to try and get people to see what is so blatantly obvious and all i am met with is anger in return.
i have friends who make content playing this game and are constantly excusing it and trying to make it seem better.

I really wish I got into the series earlier
I started with xy and well thanks to me being curious about the series I gave the older games a shot, and I can say that platinum, gold, heartgold, white2, and even firered are my favorite games and wanted more good pokemon games. sun and moon were decent at best but they really had to make usum which were so unnecessary and it really when I woke up to see what was really going on.
Worst part is that this is the first mainline pokemon game on a home console (if we aren't counting LGPE) and have the opportunity to get pokemon free from stagnation but of course that never happened. I was really excited for home console pokemon games on switch but this just wasn't it. It's so sad.

For me, I got into the Pokemon craze via the anime. The only Gens the I have played during the mid-to-late-2000s are Gens 1, 3, and 4. I stopped after Gen 4. So yeah as you tell, I'm not a huge Pokemon fan because I was more into Sonic, but seeing this beloved series (consisting of 5 great Gens) turned into a cash cow (starring with Gen 6 onwards) for quantity over quality and style over substance just breaks my heart. Now if you will excuse me, I'm going to revisit Pokemon Pearl again.

The irony is being entitled is sometimes okay. We are giving them money after all. Say you bought buffalo wings from a restaurant and you payed upfront, then they gave you cold raw wings. Well, yeah. It's not wrong that it is better than a third version, but we haven't had one of those since Platinum. Hell, we haven't even had a second set of games since Sun/Moon, as USUM were just modded rereleases at full price. So instead of this actually being an improvement to the series, it just feels like a cash grab.
Also, I do get what they were trying to do with the two version split concept originally - yeah it's partially a cash grab, but the trading setup and the fact that not many parents bought both versions for their kid anyway ultimately resulted in the games being fairly social. So I wouldn't want the multiple version idea to be completely thrown out.
But these days, Game Freak has both the storage space and the time to actually do more with the two version concept. Make one for double battles. Add difficulty modes. Change gym order. Store both games on one cartridge since a lot of the split functionality can be done just with variable checks and barely any extra space required, and let players choose which version they're playing when starting a save file. (One could argue that this would cause them to lose money, but given that they're now charging $60 for the newest entry in a $40 series WHILE having less content AND not looking like a polished Switch game, IN ADDITION TO the $60 for both expansion packs ripoff...)
In fact, you know what - put Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver on the Switch shop, adding in functionality such as transferring to Home, and provide players a free code for one of them depending on what they bought. That would be a VERY easy way of adding in extra content to your purchase while STILL allowing GF to resell games they've already made in an actual relevant way. If they priced the games at $20 apiece, giving players one of them for free adds a ton of perceived value to their purchase. For example: buy Sword, get Diamond. Buy Shield, get Pearl. Buy both, get Platinum. Either expansion pass will then grant you HeartGold or SoulSilver. This would be the closest Game Freak could get to having their cake and eating it too - they'd make pretty decent money from the sales of the ported games to those who aren't investing that much into SwSh, and it would encourage many of the folks on the fence about SwSh to go ahead and make the purchase(s), all from *just slightly modifying pre-existing, complete games*.
Hell, this would work especially well in Pokemon's case considering how absolutely stagnant the series has been. It would barely feel like a step down compared to the way most other series would feel.
And just by doing that, it would make you feel like you're actually getting something much more worthwhile for having the games divided up the way they are. Red, Blue, and Yellow felt that way as they were, way back in the 90s, but gaming has changed drastically since then. Such minor alterations don't cut it anymore, and the only reason this was never really questioned until now was because the model never changed for the worse. Now, suddenly, it's much more expensive, in games that are severely lacking compared to both previous entries and other Switch games.

For example, I would love to start a new game with all my TM's and items, along with a new difficulty level for new game plus. I would also love an item that evolves Pokemon, who evolve via level up. It would be cool to have a Hydreigon (evolves at level 64) at a reasonable level. Yeah that may make the game too easy, but new game plus is optional, and for me that would feel fun. It's just something different.

The answer is: Pokémon Black and White. The last pokémon games to try something new and risky, and sold the worst of all other generations before and after. It's very clear that they've been playing it safe since then, and why wouldn't they.
The fact that Sword and Shield sold well has led me to give up any hope of this franchise improving.

@@killercat250 Couldn't have said it better myself. As someone who started with Ruby and has since played all the games, I really don't know what happened during X and Y. It was obvious they were scared to try anything new, but Kalos is a pretty well designed region, I feel like so many ideas were scraped for half done to minimise risk. Kalos feels unfinished, it didn't even get a third game or sequels. It was just abandoned. Sad, because even though I don't really like playing X and Y, it has some aspects that I really like. I love Sycamore and details like the note he wrote to his future self when he was younger, I love the caves (more than any other game at least), I love riding on Pokemon. The games deserved to be different. Too bad Game Freak decided pandering to Kanto and making the games easy is what sells. At least the manga was good.
It also makes me scared on what will happen to unova. The storyline of those games was incredible, but I don't think it translated well into the DS format. I think the games would have been better in 3D, with cutscenes instead of just mashing A through everything. Unova will benefit greatly from remakes, but I don't think they'll ever happen.

Frankly, Smash Ultimate DLC isn't even pay to win (with the possible exception being Joker).
By contrast, fat Pikachu and Mew are legitimately viable mons that can possibly affect the meta by a significant amount.
At the very least you get a complete game with tons of characters if you dont pay DLC in smash. Heck, you got all the modes and around 60+ characters without DLC.
And Ultimate actually feels like a completed game.

Meanwhile, Yo-kai Watch 4 will eventually have ALL their 700 (and more) Yo-kai via updates, thing that Game Freak can't even do without defrauding their customers.
Also, Yokai Watch 4 did not need to re-use Yokai Watch 3 models and animations for the game, another thing that Game Freak can't even do, when they were the ONES who wanted to cut the National Dex to improve the animations.

Want to know something I noticed? DIstant talked about this in the video, but I thought I could elaborate:
Game Freak has said that when the DLC comes out, there will also be an update that allows you to get the added Pokémon by other means, such as transfers OR link trades. Theoretically, this means you can easily complete the dex, but it's not that simple.
You see, Generation 8 (Sword and Shield) just so happened to be the first generation that REMOVED the GTS, which allowed you to post trade requests online, showing one of your Pokémon and asking for another (species and other specifics) in return.
Without the GTS, the only way you can get these Pokémon without spending money is regular link trades, for which there is no direct way in-game to communicate to the other (as far as I know), and surprise trades, which, for simplicity, are totally random.
While some strangers will be charitable, will there really be enough of them? Probably not. The only way you could reliably get all of the DLC Pokémon is to have a friend who either transferred them in from a past generation or bought the DLC themselves.
It may very well be that Game Freak removed the GTS to make the DLC Pokémon harder to get through trading, encouraging more players to either buy the DLC themselves or pay for Pokémon home, making them even more money either way. Yikes.
Now, the removal of the GTS in correlation with everything else may just be a coincidence. The GTS was not without its flaws, being filled with requests for legendary Pokémon. However, it certainly seems suspicious, so we cannot rule out the possibility.
Yeah let's just completely ignore that Home comes with a free box of storage and you can GTS for free.
Okay, one free box of storage is nice, but you still have to pay extra to offer more than one Pokémon at a time in the GTS (making it slower than it needs to be) _and_ to transfer Pokémon from the 3DS games.
@@Flygoniaks I grant that the trading up one is kinda stupid, but you went from "This game is worse than the ones before, make it the same!" to "This game is the same as before, give me the thing I need to pay for for free!" Besides, it's not like it's limiting the amount that you trade by much. Most of the time I just searched for Pokemon instead because it was so much faster.
My bad. When I wrote this a week ago, I wasn't aware of the free (limited) GTS usage. Though, to be honest, limiting the amount of Pokémon we can offer in the GTS to one in the first place is kind of arbitrary in this day and age. It's been very clear that they can do more.
But you saying "I just searched for Pokémon instead" makes me think you're missing the point. If you want to "search" for the new Pokémon (presumably in the wild), you would have to buy the DLC. The only ways to get them without paying money are slow and unreliable.

2. I get that the fact that it is obvious how easy it would be to have more than one Pokemon deposited at the same time is annoying, but it's just the state of gaming at the moment. Micro-transactions and pay-for unlockable content is just becoming normal now.
It's just the way supply and demand works. If only 1 company did it, they would be boycotted/lose all sales to another company, but since everyone is doing it, there's no alternative.

If you think about it all this is a reaction to the success of PoGo, GameFreak have reacted to the Pokémon Company's unprecedented financial success with Go by trying desperately to capture some of the nostalgia bucks... GF felt their importance to the series weaken and as a result set in motion the products we see today, splitting their development teams so they could try to diversify their portfolio (making a massive failure in the process) and then desperately trying to extract as much juice as possible from their very dry SwSh efforts. It's all a depressingly cynical attempt to get as much cash as possible from the series.

Honestly, I just want Spike Chunsoft to take over the reigns on the main games. The storytelling in the mystery dungeon spinoffs are absolutely phenomenal. Not perfect, but I think the effort they put into the Mystery Dungeon series shows how much they care-clearly more than Gamefreak does.

The fact the starters can’t dynamax without buying the dlc proves these game are all about generating money, gamefreak clearly don’t care about quality or their fans, and adding all the Uber’s back in just destroys there lie that the dex cut was necessary for balancing, and animation quality is highly questionable as pointed out in the earlier videos from this series

It was an issue back around the Sun and Moon era too, prior to that though, outside of making a "game of the year" like rerelease, patching games wasn't a thing for the DS and past devices, hence. But even then, those games were more polished up than Sword and Shield was.

Yeahhh no. Im staying in Alola, where i have access to national dex and mega evolutions that everyone loves. So glad i didnt spend my money on Sw/Sh. Plus my girl Wigglytuff isnt available in the DLC pass so until the Jigglypuff family is added, ill consider getting the game. It’s a shame because i do like Galarian Articuno’s design.
I think it’s pretty scummy to add Gigantimax forms of the Sw/Sh starters as paid DLC when in SuMo, we got the Z-Crystals for the crystals in the base game.

Yeah, I really wanted a switch so I could play through Sword/Shield, Lets Go and the new DPPT remakes but now Im not as hyped. I mean, Lets Go looks pretty good but Sword/Shield and DPPT remakes look lazy af
This is why I didn't even bother buying the game. Having to pay nearly $300 for the full experience is straight up bullshit! And if every single Pokémon game is going to fall into this EA style tactic to squeeze more money out of stupid 5 year olds that keep pestering their parents to buy everything, I don't think I like Pokémon anymore... I don't want to play anymore games until they stop being cheap, lazy and greedy.

Technically it's at most double that, since Sw/Sh has been actively splitting content like gym types between the two versions, and I have been hearing that the DLC only works for a version each.
Also on a personal note, Galarian forms are one thing, but I find Galarian form Legendaries to be absolutely nonsensical. Especially since on top of it all it's more Kanto-centric Pokémon.
And yeah, PokéBank is/was pretty scummy in hindsight.

Ok, as a Sw/Sh defender, I know Gamefreak is doing some asshole shananigans with the Pikachu and Eevee, Mew and other things, but, if they had another year to develop the game in a proper way, maybe it could have ended up better.
For example: they could hace added a little bit of secret post-game where you could be able to catch a Gmax Pikachu/Eevee instead of being gift for buying Let's go.
But...even then, I know they really messed up.
They'll have to lower the price of the game to $30 or at least $40 and then sell the DLC for $20.
I mean, it is still expensive, but it's something...I guess

Let's look at Resident Evil 7 for comparison.
It had both free and pad dlc. The free dlc "Not a Hero" tied up a missing thread in the main story. The paid season pass includet 6 additional game modes which just exist as a nice extra to have and doesn't give us anything the main plot forgot to to tell us. I'd say that's a better approach than Game Freak did.
RD7 is actually a conplete game!
Same with Monster Hunter World and its expansion Iceborne.
It is receiving constant free updates with tons of content! A year after the Iceborne release, we are still receiving new monsters and past monsters upcoming, everyone is enjoying themselves and happy with the updates.
All the DLC Capcom has for MH is purely cosmetic.
Unnormal hollow knight is one of the best metroidvanias of all times , had a shitton of content that includes also 4 free dlcs that adds even more content and all of that for just 15$ from a indie company of 3 people
God i love RE7, it is a little sad that extras are now paid and not in the game, but still, you can see the love in these extra modes, they try to make it fun and lovable, not only for making money, and now they´re giving the fans something they love (Re3 remake, and a game that, even if its more like L4D than outbreak, it makes the fans remember them).

You know, forgetting that you don't HAVE to buy the first game and you can just get the sequel and by paying only $40 for Ultra sun/moon and going on the GTS, I have access to 807 pokemon. Welcome to being a Street Fighter fan.
Honestly, I love SF, but I refused to buy any version of SF5; 16 base characters (mostly undesired) and four seasons ($30 per season) of the fan favorites. Seasons 1-3 sold six fighters each, and four for Season 4 (over the course of about four years). So 22/38 of the roster was DLC, meaning most of the roster they planned out was intentionally meant to be purchased later.
That's not to mention how people that bought the game early on were punished for not waiting for the updated versions (Arcade Edition, Champion Edition, etc.) of the game to come out. Shelling out $60 for the original game and $60 for Seasons 1-2 (totalling $120), while Arcade Edition comes out 2 years later for $60 with the S1 & S2 characters available.
Not to mention, NO ARCADE MODE, NOR STORY MODE ON RELEASE.
Most fighting games do this nowadays, but Street Fighter does it the worst. At least Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, Killer Instinct, and Soul Calibur add guest characters, but all SF does is give costumes (not free) of old Capcom favorites to SF characters.
These AAA game companies have gotten way out of hand.

@Scooter Yeah I had the opportunity of playing the Stress Test yesterday. Even with 30+ player AND TemTem models on-screen at a time it still runs a good framerate. Pop-ins are non-existent Meanwhile SwSh can barely handle like 6 players, and generally looks worse

Yeah. Back in the days of Red/Blue the idea was that each kid would only get _one_ of the two cartridges and trade with his in-person friends and acquaintances to complete the Pokedex, not that people would buy both games and trade with themselves. By the time of Ruby/Saphire the model was already very outmoded, not to mention the better memory of the newer games made it easier to just put all the Pokemon in wild encounters and they in no way needed to have version exclusives.
This is why Ruby/Saphire and Black/White have big version gimmicks (which evil team you fight in R/S and whether a specific place is a forest or a city in B/W for example). Something they completely dropped the ball on from X/Y onward, making the gimmick of asking you to buy the same game two or five times a lot more pointless.

This DLC expansion pass really should have been the postgame. While it's great having new areas to explore, pretty much every pokemon game has had major new areas to explore after the main game, except for X/Y and ORAS with just one new city. They better not put the postgame behind a DLC paywall from here on out.
