@@claudiaterrazas7673 Gosh I forgot about posting this been a year ago. I live in south Mississippi and anytime we have Jim come this way everybody starts getting a little bit nervous. I'm so scared for all the people that decided to stay and not evacuate. I hope they're gonna be okay. I remember seeing on the news there was a family filling up bags with sand, saying they were going to stay and protect their first home. I hope they're okay. God I hope this isn't gonna be another Katrina.
I live in West Monroe, LA. I watched this livestream coverage until about 4AM local time, lost power around 1PM that day, didn't get it back until the following Monday...to find out that TWC's coverage didn't even mention Monroe in name even though the worst of only-recently-downgraded Tropical Storm Laura directly hitting Ouachita Parish with everything she had left, leaving me without power until the following Monday afternoon.
I was in the eyewall and eye in Lake Charles. I was also in the eyewall and eye of Rita just a few miles east of the Texas line (Sabine River). And I must say that Rita's wind was stronger than Laura's.That band of wind in Rita's right front eyewall quadrant was considerably stronger.
@@morganmusto361 Nope. NHC rated RITa;s landfall as a 3, and LAURA's landfall as a 4. They just missed ducunenting the surface winds during landfall. I was in the strongest of both. In that aspect, its like rating a tornado on the EF scale. If you don't have visible wind effects on the ground. it gets a lower rating. RITA was also the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Gulf. It just weakened before landfallas all category fives do in the Gulf. I was just at ground zero for RITA's strongest wind on land. BTW, the landfall central pressure was same for both RITA, and LAURA, at 937 millibares. And there was an unofficial wind measurement of wind gust to 180 mph in RITA at Hackberry.
@@morganmusto361 It depends upon the hurricane's forward speed, the atmosphereic moisture content in it's path, and if there's upper level shear in it's path, how far the hurricane force winds make it inland. And LAURA was moving faster than RITA, so naturallyt the hurricane force winds would penetrate farther inland.
