The right turn on red isn't really confusing, since we drive on the right. You just treat it like a stop sign. If no cars are coming, you can turn right. This law was passed during the gas shortages. It prevents wasting gas while sitting at the light.
In Michigan, you can turn left on red if you are driving on a one-way street and you're turning onto another one-way street. Both turning right or left on red is usually banned in other countries because they are dangerous for pedestrians.
We also allow left turn on red only when going from a one-way to a one-way and you are in the furthest left lane. But a few states don't allow this. Where it is allowed, a lot of people in those states don't realize they can do this, though. I often get honked at by the person behind me when I do it. States that Don't allow it are: Connecticut Main Missouri New Hampshire New Jersey North Carolina Rhode Island Washington DC Most of South Dakota
Then they need to be divided. Someone's politics are a reflection of their core beliefs as a person. There's no such thing as "putting politics aside". Like if someone at my dinner table supports revoking the right for a woman to choose what to do with her own body, I NEED to know that so I can make them leave my table. If someone supports a literal traitor and is in favor of the death of democracy, I NEED to know that so I can know that they're an awful person.
Exactly. Yet you can use as many (free) plastic bags for produce, meats. Etc. 🤦🏻♀️Just another way to make money, as far as I’m concerned. Why not charge the consumer for bags instead of forcing multimillion dollar industry to develop biodegradable bags that are safe for the environment!
I forgot how badly written and outright stupid the Mojo channel was. I have never understood why they have so many views.... "things you can do in America but are illegal in other countries!"-proceeds to list non-european/non-western countries with different values... while quoting laws predicated on said values.....
Hello. Just a quick note. Someone may have already mentioned this to you, but I’ll give it a shot. The last item on the list was plastic grocery bags. There r several grocery stores that recycle their bags for future bags in their store. That alone makes me not feel so bad using them. Mind u, my family returns their bags to the store. It takes the customers to bring the bags back to the store. For example, Wal-Mart does this. There r signs letting customers know. Just as u walk in the doors, there is a grocery bag return area. It makes it so easy to bring ur old bags to return them on ur next grocery shopping trip. Take care….I enjoy ur channel.
When I was young, power companies sold light bulbs and you only bought them once. When they burned out you could take them back to the power company and get free replacements. Broken bulbs you would have to buy replacements for. That all changed when a hardware store owner sued because he bought a bunch of bulbs that he couldn't sell due to the replacement policy, claiming that the power companies had an unfair monopoly on the sale of bulbs.
Growing up, I remember we had a small cabinet in the basement full of light bulbs because of that. Then I remember one day the stash finally started to go down for the first time.
You could still buy "rough service" incandescent bulbs, more expensive but with heavier construction and supposedly a much longer life. They were exempt from the original ban because NYC union subway workers were not about to spend their entire lives replacing cheap bulbs. I suspect that once a) a lot of Americans learned where to buy the legal incandescent bulbs and b) burnt out fancy planet saving CFL bulbs were considered toxic waste because of the mercury, we just gave up and allowed the old bulbs.
Unfortunately, this time I'm not adding a 1. Don't get me wrong, I love all your videos! I don't think a lot of the comments are going to focus on the video. This election is a popular and divisive topic in America right now. I think you should absolutely watch the video on your own time!
Bias creeps into the way we think and write... showing the video might also cause a positive reaction in some people; what's unfortunate is that what really suffers in this political climate is the ability to discuss and debate. 😐
@@suterfamily5578 oh I agree! I actually loved debating politics. @@kmlameattempt Agreed, Andre's channel is not the proper forum to discuss American politics because even though there will probably be an avalanche of comments which is generally good for the YT algorithm, it would unfortunately turn into a food-fight of epic proportions. @@mockingpirate7659 the reason I said what I said is simply because in a previous video, Andre made it clear that he doesn't want political debates in his comments. Turning right on a red light is allowed in some states, including in California where I live. They do have intersections where there are signs that prohibit turning right with a red light, because they are 5 way intersections. something that shouldn't really exist. It is still completely illegal in some states.

Don't forget Prince changed his name to a unique symbol. Almost everywhere at least requires the local writing system, no nonstandard letters. Australian states didn't allow accent marks or ligatures, just the standard 26 letter Roman alphabet, and most titles (Doc, Lord, Earl, King, Prince etc.) and a short list of other words are banned. Germany requires a name to have been previously recorded in use.

Umm… I think the narrator got a fact wrong. There’s still a bulb burning from 1879 that Edison made. Granted the bulb isn’t all that bright, but he can’t say that it has a “short lifespan”.
Yes, you can turn right on a red light if 1) it’s safe and 2) there is no sign specifying “No Right on Red”. My last traffic ticket (1980s) was because of a newly installed “No Right on Red” sign. It’s pretty rare here in NorCal.
The first condition for right on red is to STOP. I also got a ticket for a right on red because a sign was posted above the intersection - one small sign amongst 37 others (well, it was a lot, I didn't count). There was no symbol so you'd have to read all the signs to know everything that was posted. Taking the time to do so would tick off all the drivers behind you, which is an issue in a city prone to road rage incidents. It's not everyone but it only takes one.
I experienced this myself growing up. We lived in an old farmhouse which no matter how many exterminators were hired, ALWAYS had mice around. My mom was worried about me crawling around on the floor, so she kept me in a baby walker way more that was suggested. As a result, I had difficulty getting my eyes to work together a few years later when I was learning to read. I had to do exercises to improve motor functionality in my brain. Over the course of two years, I crawled and did cross-patterning exercises every day. The result was that my eyes (almost) worked flawlessly together. It turns out damaging my optic nerve from a skull fracture will also affect your vision. Who knew?
Honestly, I grew up with paper bags, so I would be fine with banning plastic grocery bags, and I have been told that the paper bags are actually cheaper than the plastic ones. Also, the trees used for paper bags are grown on massive tree farms in Georgia (the state), so they are much better for the environment two ways.
@@MrStvwinks I was not offended by Andre`, other people, it all depends on what is said and my mood. I've even had people ask me if I misspelled my name, now that definitely gets my unwanted attention! lol
1. I can think of three names that make you look twice, but are totally legal: Moon Unit Zappa, Apple Martin (Paltrow), and the Symbol that Prince changed his name to for a short time. Not sure you could name your kid a symbol. Oh! Thought of another one! Elon Musk named his child X AE A-XII. No joke, look it up!
The biggest problem with the light bulb situation was that the new bulbs did NOT last as long as they claimed, many didn't last a month, and then you're out 6-8 dollars for one bulb.
In the US, we do in fact have some names that (state dependent), you cannot name your child and those include 1. Numbers 2. Characters, Emojis, and Symbols 3. Offensive language 4. Foreign characters (symbols for letters in other languages) 5. Accents
Some notes about right on eed There may be a sign restricting right on red - generally if there's a hazard in allowing it. For example, in my rown there is an intersection where six roads come together. There is no right on red at this intersection, and signs plainly tell the driver as such. Right on red us an option, not compulsory. I tend ro check for red light cameras, and if I see one, I I'll not turn right on red, because I don't trust the camera not to trip when any movement against the red light. We drive on the right (as opposed to on the left), and the turn is supposed to be from the right line, to the most right lane on the perpendicular street. No right on red from the jeft or center lanes (if presenr). If you don't feel safe, wait a dew extra seconds to make sure someone isn't going to fly through the intersection and hit when you are making the turn. Or, don't do it at all. I'd rather wait a bit of time than have someone's car in my front seat.
Everyone uses LEDs and they are actually cheaper now, incandescent bulbs are situational, people who paint and such like them because of how they show color compared to LED. I'm sure there are other situations where they are better, probably in dimming situations.
Never never never discuss banning firearms, politics, religion, abortion, The Dallas Cowboys, or sexual orientation, unless you want to loose at least half of your subscribers overnight! When visiting America avoid those topics when making small talk with a stranger. Talk about the weather. Ask where's a good local diner.
OK, that is very hyperbolic. Asking questions about those things is perfectly fine. Arguing or attempting to debate about it is an entirely different thing.
I think a good part of the country has moved to reusable shopping bags. I used to reuse the plastic ones for small waste baskets. When i go to grocery store and forget my bags, they have option to buy from them (expensive) or buy paper ( thin). You can also just carry them out in the cart. Using the paper ones a couple of times gives a strong reminder to bring yours next time.

When I was a kid, my doctor told my mom that BHT & BHA were making me hyperactive. I was not allowed to eat any of the yummy cereals that I wanted like Cocoa Puffs & Fruit Loops. This was in the 80's. I think I was just naturally hyperactive though! 😂
In my area, we have three-lane right-turn on red light. It come off the freeway so that traffic does not back up and get it on to the main streets. / As far as the food bags go, I invest in 50 cloth bags for my groceries and when COVID hit, they would not let us use them. Then they had already converted to the thicker reusable plastic bags, and we could not use them either. So, now we are throwing away bags that take even longer to decompose.
Right turn on red is permitted if there is no sign saying that it is prohibited for that particular intersection. You do need to stop first though, and then you can make your right turn if it is safe to do so. You do have to yield to any traffic that has the right of way. Right turn on red saves gas because you are not sitting their waiting, and obviously also saves time.
1. Valentines Day actually has its roots as a Catholic holiday to honor St. Valentine. So Islamic countries would want to ban it for that reason if not for the fact that it is a western tradition. First we had paper bags, and they complained that we were killing too many trees. Then they came up with the brilliant idea of switching to plastic bags. Fast forward and they are complaining that the plastic bags don't biodegrade fast enough and are ruining the environment, so they come up with these reusable grocery bags. Fast forward and they complain that the reusable bags are unhygienic and can cause people to get sick, and now they are recommending paper bags again. I guess they've decided that we have enough trees now.
It was quick, and many probably didn't hear it, but when the recyclable plastic grocery bags are banned, the sale of the more costly and durable small garbage bags go up.
I, and many others, have unsubscribed immediately to American reactors to music videos who suddenly felt the need to air their political beliefs on their channels. Always keep politics out of your channel. It is a very divisive subject in the US right now.

Only problem with the plastic bags is, now they are finding the reusable bags all over the place. They are in waterways, on the side of the road. At least with the plastic bags, they could be recycled
Andre mentioned "moon" as a name. The late rock star Frank Zappa named his kid Moon Unit Zappa. Names like Seven, Apple, Blue, Red, Pony, Dog etc. can be found in America. Pretty much anything goes.
I have great nieces and great nephews named Ocean (girl), Scout (girl), Finn (boy), Everett (girl) and Thompson (girl). I live in a state where adultery is illegal - we also are an "at fault" state in the case of divorce. I don't know how it's enforced, but I'd imagine divorce settlements and custody matters would lean heavily towards the injured spouse.
Oklahoma is a bible belt state. It is still on the books here. It is a felony and punishable upto 5 years. but not enforced, But then again whaling is also illegal so go figure.
Please steer clear of politics. It's extremely divisive right now. I really enjoy your videos and reacting to what's going on politically right now in the US is truly a downer. I enjoy your fun and happy reactions to other areas of American culture and what's beautiful here.
You absolutely cannot win discussing politics. There is no way to thread the needle. Something you say will trigger some group of people no matter how much you didn't mean it that way.
Turning right on red makes sense. The number of vehicles on the road calls for a steady flow, and sitting at a red light when it’s clear to turn right is dumb! Note: the right of way in traffic circles here in the USA is the opposite of Europe.
The plastic bag information is not entirely accurate. Wal-Mart and most grocery stores have stopped supplying plastic or some stores may charge for each plastic bag. We have been using reusable "bags" for a couple of years.
I'm not a fan of plastic grocery bags, I really miss the brown paper bags that we had when I was a kid. They're more sturdy than plastic, hold more groceries, and are far easier to recycle.
You can name your kid just about anything in the U.S. (though I recall some parents who, I think, were understandably forced to change their baby's name when they wanted to name him "Adolf" "Hitler.") Remember the name River Phoenix, and his brother, Joaquin Phoenix, who used to be called, Leaf. They also have three sisters named Rain, Liberty, and Summer. Plastic bags were forced in under the guise of "saving the environment" about 35-40 years ago, replacing paper bags. Now, a lot of people recycle them or use them in place of garbage bags. That is ridiculous about not allowing different flavors of chips. A lot of Americans would like to see less use of the questionable additives and preservatives to foods. Right turn on red has certain rules to follow, such as waiting for any oncoming traffic and/or traffic that has the right of way (a few rules may be different in different states). But generally, right turn on red works very well to keep the traffic moving.
Kids aren't typically named after things like microphones but they could. My aunt was named Sytha. I have a cousin named Kiana. I think it's Hawaiian for princess. (Keanu Reeves' name is prince. ) Kiana has a sister named Arianazea. We call her Nay. There's a famous 60s/70s musician named Frank Zappa. His daughter is named Moon Unit Zappa. I can't remember which actress, I think Gwyneth Paltrow, has named her daughter Apple. Mostly people have chosen variations of spelling their child's name. My classmate was named Michaelle, a derivation of the more common Michelle. I don't know if it's still disapproved of in court but the government frowned upon people trying to change their name to Jesus Christ or Santa Claus, for example. I have heard the reason some African-Americans give their children unusual names is to break away from calling their children "slave" names, commonplace European names. We had a US Senator change his name to Kwaisi Mfumi, I forget the meaning of the name but the story is he wanted to change his name and his aunt happened to be traveling to Africa on holiday. He asked her for some African words. I *think* Kwaisi means Lion or perhaps Pride in the language of the country she visited.
You can call your kids weird names but sometimes the court might get involved and object to a name and force the child to be renamed. I don’t think this happens often. But the argument that’s made is that the name is absive due to the fact that it could result in being ostracized and bullied, especially during the critical years of child’s development.
Leds have nothing hazardous in them. You are thinking of fluorescent as they contain small amounts of mercury and it is considered a neurotoxin. I use to work for a hazmat company that disposed of all things hazardous and fluorescents was one of those things. Besides most states those regs are not enforceable on home owners and are for companies or people that produce over 1000 pounds of hazard wast a year. Most home owners are exempt but it is good practice and recommended to take them to a hazmat disposal collection. Same for flammable paint and other class 9 items.
Yes, we can pretty much name our kids whatever we wish. In some cases, this is cultural. Some of our Native American tribes, for example, have traditions surrounding how a baby can be named -- sometimes it can be the first thing the father sees after the birth so the child could be named moon, truck, daisy, river, etc. The weirdest names I've heard of were Yellowjello and Orangejello -- pronounced yell an jel oh and or an jel oh.
We definitely have kids named weird crap that definitely has everyone around them go "The doctor should of smacked the mother" but its still there right to name their kid something completely stupid
If you're not comfortable with right turn on red, then don't. Most places in the US you're *allowed* to turn right on a red light once you've stopped and verified that the coast is clear, but you never *need* to do so. You could just wait for it to turn green if you're more comfortable with that.

There are a few States that have banned plastic bags. California, I think a few New England states, and my state of New Jersey. Overall it's not too inconvenient, but I do occasionally forget to bring my own bag. It helps to always keep reusable bags in your car for unplanned trips to the store.
Connecticut has banned them. The ban was temporarily lifted during the pandemic, but is back now. If we forget to bring reusable bags (or are buying more than usual and don't have enough of them) grocery stores provide paper bags, but they're 10 cents each. That's not much, but they aren't free like they used to be several years ago.
In context it makes more sense although still dumb. Things like that or classifying pizza as a vegetable was usually used as a work-around to school lunch regulations, so kids could have a pizza day or be able to acquire catsup without having it to bring it to school themselves. Everything in the store is wrapped in plastic and they won't give you a plastic bag to carry your groceries out. Crazy
The plastic bag ban is stupid, because almost everything in the grocery store is wrapped in plastic or in a plastic container.
Micro plastics are killing us, just sayin'
I forgot how badly written and outright stupid the Mojo channel was. I have never understood why they have so many views.... "things you can do in America but are illegal in other countries!"-proceeds to list non-european/non-western countries with different values... while quoting laws predicated on said values.....
Can you imagine telling someone you work at Mojo lol
You can turn right on red when safe AFTER stopping first to make sure it is safe.
Unfortunately, this time I'm not adding a 1. Don't get me wrong, I love all your videos! But the thing is, if you show us that Trump assassination attempt video, it might cause a negative reaction in some people, and I think the comments of that video will be flooded with politics and debating.
The thing is, I recall another video where Andre expressed wanting to avoid political debates in his comment section, so my comment was just meant to give Andre some feedback on what I thought might happen with the video for his sake, not for the greater good of the world. I just simply meant to look out for him and I meant no harm.
@@kmlameattempt Agreed, Andre's channel is not the proper forum to discuss American politics because even though there will probably be an avalanche of comments which is generally good for the YT algorithm, it would unfortunately turn into a food-fight of epic proportions. The actual assassination attempt should not be a political discussion, wrong is wrong no matter what side or middle you belong to.
Oddly the people that don't want to discuss things don't want others to talk about them. Andre can say whatever he wants.
@@mockingpirate7659 the reason I said what I said is simply because in a previous video, Andre made it clear that he doesn't want political debates in his comments. Therefore, I was letting him know that he will get political debate if he reviews a video like that. I meant no harm. I'm always up for a political discussion myself. I just simply wanted to let Andre know what he might be facing if he made that video.
The "reusable" bags aren't better for the environment, since it takes so much more resources to make the bag in the first place. You will never reuse them enough to compensate for using "one-time" use plastic bags.
Turning right on a red light is allowed in some states, including in California where I live. They do have intersections where there are signs that prohibit turning right with a red light, because they are 5 way intersections. something that shouldn't really exist. It is still completely illegal in some states.
I'm pretty sure that's true in nearly all states.
It's only prohibited in New York City. Maybe New York State.

Not allowing right turns on a red wastes so much time. The US got it right on that one.
Yeah, we often use plastic grocery bags for trash bags, so im not surprised the purchases of plastic trash bags have gone up.

No we don't have a registry like in Argentina where you have to choose from a list.
Actually... Frank Zappa has a daughter named "Moon Unit"...
Jason Lee has a child named Pilot Inspektor! We won't even talk about Elon's kids w/ Grimes!
Eu banning flavored chips? No wonder Great Britain wanted out!

Accents
Some notes about right on eed
There may be a sign restricting right on red - generally if there's a hazard in allowing it.
Banning flavored chips, what??
Wait, what I meant to say was... What??
Everyone uses LEDs and they are actually cheaper now, incandescent bulbs are situational, people who paint and such like them because of how they show color compared to LED. I'm sure there are other situations where they are better, probably in dimming situations.
Andre, I use the plastic bags to line my small trash bins and my daily trash, I don’t see a reason to buy trash bags when I can reuse these.

So, now we are throwing away bags that take even longer to decompose.
i love these videos because u stay away from politics. personal preference

If it's because of the color, look for LEDs in 2500 or 3000 Kelvin. That produces the warm reddish color of incandescents. 6000 Kelvin is the color of fluorescent lights.

Depends on where you live.
I'm not a fan of plastic grocery bags, I really miss the brown paper bags that we had when I was a kid. They're more sturdy than plastic, hold more groceries, and are far easier to recycle.
Paper bags rip with the same frequency as plastic bags.
In WA state you can also turn left on a red when its from a 2 way onto a one way provided there is no oncoming traffic.
I will take Thomas Edison light bulb over a new one just for the FACT I don't have to call a hazmat team to clean a broken light bulb.
