👀 Let me know if you have an item that you cannot live without when you get out on the trail. One everyday item I did not include in this video is a pocket🔪, I never leave home without it. What's some of yours❓
I would add Benadryl case of bites and trowel to dig a cathole to poop in. My husband is on blood thinners, so we carry blood clotting powder. I always carry an ace bandage to protect injured joints, to use as a pressure bandage, to tie on a splint or use as a tourniquet. Nice video on the 10 essentials.
Thanks for the comment and the added items. Each bag is custom to each persons needs for sure. I didn't show it, but I keep anti itch cream in the truck just for those bites. Thanks again.
Enjoyed the video and heard you say your planning a trip to the Guadalupe Mountains, If you have questions reach out to Jason Lominac, He has a podcast about hiking in Texas, knows and hikes the trails at Guadalupe Mountains Park often. (Trail Blazing Texas Podcast) My son and I did the peak a couple of years ago and I wish I had known more about the trails before we went. My son just lives 60 miles from them now so I hope we can go back soon. Thanks for sharing your tips to us older hikers! WGB
Thanks WGB, I will be sure to check out his podcast and reach out to Jason, it's great to hear from other hikers over 50 who know the trails. I lived in Texas for 51 years before heading to Colorado so I have a good grasp about hiking there, but to get fist hand on someone who has done this kins of Hike would be helpful, especially on the amount of water I will be needing. Thanks for the comment.
@@meandherafterkids Your welcome! I have only done day hikes there but I think Jason has hike every trail plus made a few of his own. I live in west Texas, heard you say that you had a ranch out this way. That was a great interview by the way. Happy Trails!
OK good job by putting into manageable perspective. Otter BOX with your pills !!! slip of all weather paper for description of your pills. Im a nitro guy, so must have my pills on me. How about a sit pad ? rocks get old and cactus is not fun. Heart problems/symptoms are water related, NOT ENOUGH, Hydrate before trailhead, not your pack water, fill from the stock in the truck. Good video thanks.
Good comment, Thanks. I don't guess I ever thought of a a sitting pad. I know those are light weight and can easy fit. I suppose you could also use the rain jacket for one as well. Your medications are a must for sure and it is just as important to keep them dry. If I am out more than a few hours, I always add in my afternoon meds. I keep them in little pill zip locks and then put that in a snack bag. Thanks again, JF
At 49, and a day short of 50, yet tomorrow what is working today will not work tomorrow? This idea or suggestion clearly shows how age related mile marker competency guidelines nothing but......... sickening HOOEY!
Happy birthday. You are exactly right. The gear we tote around will change with our body and needs. What's in my pack today is not what was in it 5 years ago. Thanks for the comment.

My west Texas may be different from yours. I have a place between Seymore and Lubbock. but when I lived in the Dallas area that was west Texas.
