Skeeter's version made me really sad when I heard it on the radio. I was 7 or 8 y/o. I always thought she was singing "Don't say no, it's the end of the world". Never could quite make sense of the "Don't say no" part. Now after 52 years I realize she was singing "Don't they know it's the end of the world". Now it's even sadder.

My wife never liked ABBA, and never told me why...till one night that I was watching an ABBA vid and shouted at me angrily "are you watching that stupid blonde woman again"? In that moment I realized that she always knew that I´ve fallen in love with "the blonde woman" since my first sight in Eurovision festival singing Waterloo.

You failed to mention who had the biggest hit with the song. That would be Skeeter Davis in 1963. It was a huge hit that year. The writers were Arthur Kent and Sylvia Dee. Produced by Chet Atkins. I do believe Skeeter was the first to sing it also.
Oh good old Chet Atkins, I wonder what would happen to country music without his input.
A huge influence on so many artist including the talented Barbara Mandrell.
@starman2710 - I agree - this is a beautiful version and so sad. Divorce is very hard to bear - especially if you have been with a husband for a long time and you have children together - and divorce can also be one-sided - where like in my case - my ex moved on very quickly and stopped loving me - whilst I am still picking up the pieces as to why?

Come on people, Skeeter made it famous. It was a huge cross-over hit at the time and her particular inflection and treatment of the lyrics make her rendition the best. Although I am a huge Karen fan.

Fell instantly in love with Agnetha when i first heard her voice at the age of 9 singing S.O.S on the radio back in 1975. There's just something very unique about her swedish voice singing in english. Just absolutely the most beautiful special woman ever who has an affect on people without flaunting herself or trying to be a sexy poster girl. Just a natural beauty who has aged gracefully!
