Great video! Do you use a special resin so that they can endure thousands of bends without cracking? Also, did you just guess at how many layers of carbon?
The magic for me is when the carbon fins turn into plastic at 10:28! But all kidding aside, amazing, carbon fins in 24 hours. It would take me 24 years to do everything you did, but it’s cool to see the whole process up close, thank you :)
Haha thank you for watching my video! I forgot to wear the carbon pins when taking video. In fact, I was hesitant whether to use the that footage or not. but I decided to use it because I spent a lot of money (airplane, hotel, drone, etc.) for this video:) thank you!
@@mechanijun Yes, I see what you mean. Luckily, I think the video flows smoothly. I was just watching your fin movement very carefully because I recently purchased my first carbon fins and I’m not happy with their performance-especially on the surface.
I understand how you feel because carbon fins are expensive. It is easy to make one side of a composite product a glossy side, but difficult to make a double sided glossy side. If your fin surface are poor, there may be a problem with the fin mold. Normally, fins are made in three main patterns. Straight pattern (the way I made it) V pattern X pattern. It is better to choose one of the two (X,V) as it is more natural when the fins are bent. but these are expensive due to carbon fiber consumption.
@@mechanijun Thank you for the helpful information. What is your opinion regarding fiberglass compared to carbon fiber? I noticed that Molchanov uses fiberglass for their best mono fin and carbon for their best bi-fins.
no problem! The advantages of carbon fiber is especially weight and strength, except for price. The difference is little, also we're not pro divers, so I think fiberglass is good enough. But people are always looking for something better :)
Awesome video!! You rock! Have you categorized the flexibility of the fins(high flexibility vs low or medium) based upon the length of the 4 inner core sheets? What lengths of sheets did you use? Can you provide some detail about that ? thanks again.
Hey really good video and work 2 questions : what are the dimension of the blade to fit perfectly with the foot pocket ? which spar did you use to fit with your foot pocket ? you use a leaderfin foot pocket right ? thanks a lot
@@mechanijun can you send me the dimension ? I want to try to do the same as you did but i am beginner in composite Which water rail did you use to be compatible with the foot pocket ?
hi, its very interesting to see you build it yourself, do you sell the blade that you produce ? i dont have time and skill to make myself. i would like to hear if you are selling the blades.
@@mechanijun interesting offer. some branded blade has 30 degree can you make it ? and can you describe some technical details ? What weight of cloth did you use and why use only twill cloth and not unidirectional cloth? Have you tried any commercial fins to compare it with yours?
@@mechanijun Why do you think there is no need? Every commercial brand from pathos, C4 etc. uses UD core and braided skins for outer. Can you explain more what other carbon fins you tried and how yours feel vs that other fins? Also, this rubber orange strip should go and meet your footpocket, they shouldnt overlap like you did

very nice video brother, could you tell me what the last two green sails are and why you wear them? thank you good evening from greece
these are water rails and prevents water from spreading out of the fins.
Did you use laminating epoxy or vynylester resin? What do you recommend?😊
I used epoxy resin for theses fins
