It is far more interesting getting to know how penalty takers prepare knowing that the opposition know their tendencies.

The best of them all Emiliano Martinez doesn't need any Cheat Sheet yet you can guarantee that he will always save some of the penalties. He's yet to loose in 5 penalty shoot outs at big tournaments. His mentality is just out of this world.

You absolutely need to know as a GK is you have to guess and gamble on a corner. Or wait and see what they do. Some players pick a corner. Others wait until the last moment and wait for the keeper to commit, and then shoot through the center of the other corner. Reacting often seems to be the right option, though. Penalty takers no longer shoot in the same corner every penalty kick. They know the opposition will likely have a cheat sheet and that they need to mix it up. But the worst penalties are those too soft low in the corner. And if you guess on those, you can stop them. And that is basically a coin flip. Which is great odds for the GK to help their side win the shootout. And for players that wait for the keeper to commit, you make it really hard for them if you stand and wait. Keepers are anxious too. They often go too early. They don't want to look like a fool who didn't even move. They rather go into a corner and then after the game tell themselves they were just unlucky. Few keepers play the penalty kick game right. And only some specialists, who regularly take the penalties for their club, play the game right. There's still people that claim you can't practice a penalty kick or prepare and have a winning strategy for a shootout.
It is indeed strange to me though that this cheat sheet has so many names. Most of these players don't take penalties. They might have taken one or two in their careers. In that case, that's meaningless. But, deciding before the game what corner you are going to guess on them is not such a bad idea. But if you are good at penalties, for those players you would wait. Only guess for penalty specialists that commit to a corner and don't wait for the GK to make a move.
Yes, each keeper has a thing they prefer. But some get it right, others get it wrong. The question is, what is the right strategy. And that would be the one that helps you stop the most penalties. Not the one that makes you feel good.
This is like the sheet they let you have for exams to remember formulas and such.

Everyone seems to miss the fact that it is also psychology. If He did not want anyone to see the writing, it would be in a simple code. He wants people talking about it and he wants other players to see it. It puts a small doubt in their mind.
I reckon the point of doing this is not understood by the panel. The point is you pre-determine what youre going to do ahead of time. Then you are just executing rather than spending emotional energy trying to decide if youre doing the right thing or not. Its a state of mind thing - you have one less thing to worry about in the highest pressure moment of the game. You try to take away the voice in your head saying "oh i thought of going right but second guessed it and went left instead" - if its predetermined and youre just executing the plan you can try to maintain more composure over the course of the set of penalties.
Mcmanamin’s anti-Pickford bias is embarrassing. England don’t win that shootout without his save.

What I find funny is the technique is supposed to be about reading which way the keeper goes, but the keeper went the right way 🤷
80% of the time that is because he has sent the keeper the wrong way. He can go both sides with total ease, its just that the goalkeepers genreally get sent to the left by him.
It's not that Cole Palmer is better than Foden or Saka- in fact it's maybe that he's less polished, that's what makes him appear more dangerous on the pitch. It's not really the team selection (at least up front) that's holding England back- it's the tactics.
