During World War II, the Civil Aeronautics Authority selects 13 black cadets to become part of an experimental program at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama. The program aims at training "colored personnel" to become fighter pilots for the Army. However, discrimination, lack of institutional support and the racist belief that these men lacked the intelligence and aptitude for the job dog their every step. Despite this, the Tuskegee Airmen, as they become known, more than prove their worth.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. It got panned over something 99% of people don't know.
People are just too soy boys for this film
Trust me it had nothing to do with the accuracy of the planes...
It got panned because of bad writing, and characters that were more like "caricatures". It hardly mattered that the writers knew jack💩 about flying, because the target audience didn't know, either.
@@GeekFurious Well, I just watched this clip -- the first I've seen of this film -- and the dialogue writing and acting are low bar to put in kindly. It got panned for good reason, even if you think it's only about race. YAWN.
I believe that the only 262's shot down were on take off and landing. While they flew slow.
I know one was shot down in a dive trying to restart his jets after engine failure.
I liked the movie but it was a joke on accuracy.
Pilot taking a 30mm round and still jibbajabering...
Fr lol
They were also shot when they made attack runs on bombers as they had to slow down to hit accurately. This gave the P-51s a window in which they could dive on the 262s before they accelerated to get away.
There are recorded instances of A2A kills, even by one (maybe two) of the actual red tails. Battle kills, not take off and landing.
@@hussarregiment7045 262's did usually dive through the formations. If they slowed down then to a velocity like 700 kph which was about max speed of a Mustang. And accelerating again in a shallow dive the 262 very quickly approached 850-900 kph, no chance for any prop driven fighter! That doesn't mean there weren't occasions Mustangs or other Allied fighters hunt the 262 down but German jet pilots tried to avoid such situations and developed attack tactics that made interception around the bomber formations nearly impossible. That's why the Allies changed their tactics as well waiting for the jets at their airfields to get them when they were most vulnerable. The 262's as well as the Meteors made very clear that the prop fighter age was over!
more than 30 Me 262s were shot down due to dogfights
just too unrealistic. The Me 262 was a bomber killer. A singgle attack run could take out 2-3 bombers. 2nd any Me 262 pilot would know not to even engage P51 because the P51 was more agile yet too slow to intercept a Me 262. With other words Me 262 tasks was engaging bombers and ignoring fighters. The fuel limit for the Me 262 made it nearly impossible to have time wasting dog fights with a P51. At this point flying straight at high speeds was way safer for the germans. Also if a single Me 262 round hits a pilot you can consider him being torn apart. Most unrealistic part is the shot down of the Me 262. Most confirmed shoot downs were during approach and climbing of a Me262 because that's when the jet was still slow. Hence, any Me 262 pilot would avoid flying curves and loosing speed. Those P51 were too agile to be messed when Me262 flew slow.

Hardly, the ME 262s is were terrible dogfighters which is why most of them were relegated to interception and as fighter-bombers, they were fast but turned like bricks and their roll rate were atrocious. If the Germans were serious about mass producing the ME 262 the RAF for example would respond with Gloster Meteor which was already in service.

Me 262s had to be handled carefully, no violent sudden manoeuvres or the engines would flame out and not restart. Throwing on the back and into a dive is not likely. They did not attack formations from the side - usually from the rear and at speed or the gunners would get them; head on the closing speed was too fast. P51 Pilots learned deflection and lead shooting; they did get success leading the Me262s and firing. Six 50 calibre guns packed a serious punch, more than capable of cutting a wing off a 262. The Me 262 had four 30 mm cannon with explosive shells (all the better to shoot bombers down with). One hit on a P51 pilot and he would have been strawberry jam. Pretty Boy would not have painted his plane black with a bright yellow nose - too distinctive - more likely to be shot at. Personal insignia were more discreet. Finally, Hitler who was seriously nuts by then decreed that most Me 262s be used as "terror bombers" despite the fact their speed and lack of bombsight meant hitting anything smaller than a town was unlikely! Consequently few were used to attack daylight bombers. When used properly they were successful.
The whole Me 262 development programme was set back by political infighting between Hitler (who only valued what he saw as offensive weapons) Goering, Milch (who hated Messerschmitt), and Heinkel which set the programme back by years. With proper support Willi Messerschmitt reckoned he could have hade Me 262s flying in 1940. At the Battle of Britain. Yikes!! Nazis really were as mad as a sack of cats and the instrument of their own downfall.

Yeah the red tails were the first to shoot some of them down. They were the most terrifying thing a bomber could encounter.
The 262 entered service in 1944.
There weren't a lot of them built, and the ones that served suffered from the same chronic fuel shortages as the rest of the luftwaffe, but they were a nightmare for allied bomber crews (and their escorts) when they did show up, and had scored ~540 air kills by war's end.

'these jets ain nothin' wait until a bf-109 squadron comes up
Unrealistic the Me 262’s gun would rip planes, they are so much more faster and the pilots flying the Me 262 would be extremely skilled pilots the best in the Luftwaffe.
@@ijustplaygames4987 I never said they had to dog fight the tactic they used is swoop in attack and get out of there then come in for another attack

Red Tails was my favorite fighter plane movie
Mine too
what software did you use to create these amazing vfx shots?!?!?!
"These jets aint nothin."
Red tails was a great movie. The red tail was the first model I ever completed so it holds a special place in my heart!
@Yuri DeKhed each with their opinion.
@Yuri DeKhed in the movie? mine is based on forgetting about precision and enjoying the film the way it is. WW2 movies are difficult because many fighters planes that were used no longer exist. so there is no way to know exactly how it actually performs or what it can do.
@Yuri DeKhed the following question can't be answered because it's too stupid.
@Yuri DeKhed returning here months later confirming that yes, most critics of this movie don't know anything about how a dogfight works. There are people complaining that there were no aerial cases of p-51s taking down the 262s, something wrong since there were yes cases of p-51s shooting them down, complaining that the .50s took the wing off the 262, a guy thinking boom & zoom is going head-on into another fighter, etc. I don't doubt you're one of those guys with an ego bigger than your brain.
@@srcreeper02550 Me 262 were mostly shot down when they tried to land/had technical problems or when the pilot did a mistake. Usually they used a boom and zoom tactic because they 262 with it's massive 30 mm cannons was designed to shoot down bombers and could easily overtake allied piston fighters. It would never dogfight a p51 like in the movie.
It's not realistic how several hits from the 262 with it's 30 mm Minengeschoss didn't right away shred the plane while the p51 can cut off it's wings just with it's .50 cals or the scene where the p51 destroyed 262 in a head on and even flew through the explosion and survived.
The Me 262 was fast, but could only fly for like what, 10-15 minutes ?
I don't know who told you that but it's completely false.
@@truereaper4572 hes confusing it with the rocket powered fighters i think me 163 natter etc
@@LOL60345 that only has a flight time of like what 7 min?
@@OfficialDoggyYT yes. me-163: reaches ceiling in 3 minutes; 8 minutes total powered flight
The 262's jet engines only lasted for twenty hours or so before they needed to be replaced.
The fighters look like bats flying in and out of the bomber formation.
What kind of boom and zoom tactic is that , in reality the me 262s would blast one bomber for 3 sec and CONTINUE IN A STRAIGHT LINE SO THAT THE ALLIED FIGHTERS COULD NOT CATCH EM
i remember watching this in school . I thought "theres no way germany had jets, thats gotta be hollywood work." and later i looked it up I was speechless. which of course opened a can of worms to all the things germany was working on at the time
It was honestly crazy. If they had the money and supplies to back their ideas, we’d have lost
Germany also had a rocket plane, the Komet (though it wasn't the first, as a 1920's rocket plane successfully flew).
They were hardly ahead of the western allies. 3 months later in July 1944 the Meteor entered service. Due to the technology the British did not want these jets flying over Occupied Europe so they were reserved for a home defense role, mainly in intercepting V1 rockets fired at Britain. As the war went on the British allowed them to fly over Europe. But still not to fly over occupied territories. By the war's end in May 1945 they had destroyed 46 aircraft through ground attack
How is it that Hollywood can screw up a great aviation history story by absolutely crap CGC.
I know these things flew like Tie and X Wing fighters lol... @0:53 good grief lol....
Despite its issues the messerschmitt 262 was revolutionary in its design and it was the first ever jet fighter to see combat.
The P51 Mustangs were the only fighters to catch up with the ME 262,s and do a considerable amount of damage or destroy the M262 as they were slow in a climb just as the J87 Stukas were .
