Thanks. Good video. I watched yesterday. practice today, and after the video I did handstands maybe 20 in a row. Felt like a winner doing this first time since maybe I was 10 years old. And now at 44 did it again.
I paused and practiced along with you and you make it look easy I can tell it takes its toll on you but personally I'm gonna practice until I can do it as fluid as you! thank you.
This video was really helpful. I tried handstand for the first time and was able to do this with wall support as per your instructions. I hope soon I will be able to balance without support! Thank you!! :)
Great tips, I have been doing everything until 6:20 but just not able to go beyond n rest my feet on the wall....well I’ll get there...thank you! Namaste 🙏
Syakira Ghani It must be movie magic haha! This pose took me quite a long time to build up to over the past several years I've practiced yoga. Have patience and keep practicing!
While a closed door might work as a backdrop, I recommend using doors only as a last resort/with extreme caution! If someone opens the door accidentally while you are practicing, it could end in disaster! If you have anywhere to practice (indoor or outdoor) with a good, open wall space and level floor, that would be much better than a potentially moving object! -Lauren
I definitely agree! It took me AGES to get this pose, so have patience and just keep working slowly towards building the foundational strength and alignment (such as a strong core, flexible and strong shoulders, etc.) necessary for this pose. Just take it little by little and you'll get there :) -Lauren
+Proscovia Tombe I would recommend that you place your arms a little wider than your shoulders. If the shoulders still feel tight and wobbly, try widening the hands almost to the edges of your mat. Everyone's shoulders and needs are different, so just try a few options and work with what feels best for you body!
+mary safoora Got my 200 hour at Dharma Yoga in Austin, TX! As well as a 12-hour Yin training from Sukha Yoga and now working on a 300-Hour advanced training at Practice Yoga Austin. All great options :). The training at Dharma was definitely an amazing foundation though!
Wow. I gotta try but I feel my legs are too heavy and my weigh down. :( I tried many times to do the handstand but it didn't work for me. I will try this video now...
Hi Gabby! This is Lauren. The beautiful (and challenging!) thing about Yoga is that EVERYONE has some limitation/something that weighs them down/they have to work really hard with. I actually used to be TERRIFIED of practicing inversions, and my shoulders/arms were so weak I could hardly bend that way or hold myself up. The important thing is to have patience and move slowly and build the strength and alignment over time. This is definitely not something I achieved overnight and in fact, it took many years of practice before I could do it! Keep your chin up and know that you're not alone. Thanks for watching! -Lauren
Okay so I've tried this and all I got was a headache, sweat, madness and NO handstand :< This video is AMAZING, trust me! It is just me who has the worst flexibility ever...Gosh, normally I would try some flexibility exercises before doing this but I'll get a note for this kind of freaking gymnastics exercises at school in my sport lesson on Tuesday so there's no time left for that. I kinda regret that I didn't try it sooner but then again, who does actually have time for this?! Well, me not, babe😂😅 Wish me luck, I see the worst note I'll ever get in my entire life coming :'v (hope I'm wrong but I'm sooo unprepared 😅)
I clicked on this video to learn how to do a handstand but not against the wall. i learned that when I was 6 most people do in gym class or something but for yoga I expect it to be without a wall since I did a preparation for something I'm able to do without thinking
Well, they're sort of unrelated but you should combine arm strength + good kicks for a handstand. To improve your kicks just work on your standing splits and hamstring and hip flexibility, you don't need to know how to do a standing split or a regular split for your handstand, but you'll find it easier to kick up if you do. The second factor is arm strength. Push ups are unrelated to yoga but they're great for arm strength, if you can't do them just try to go all the way down until you can't push further and lift up. Or maybe work on your arm balances, and focus on your chaturangas and planks. The third factor that often goes unnoticed is core strength. It's even easier to kick up with a strong core than with flexibile legs, so work on Dolphin Planks, and hold it for a full minute. And maybe try crunches too. Hope I helped!
+TheKymberly13 you're not going to break your neck, and you'll only hit your head if you don't press. The real thing you might need to care about is having space
I am trying, and gradually making progress. That kickup to wall is so hard. I can take a step and do it. But the stationary one I dont have any luck. aNY IDEAS??
Hi, As I mentioned to Gabby in an earlier comment, and will reiterate to you, "The beautiful (and challenging!) thing about Yoga is that EVERYONE has some limitation/something that weighs them down/they have to work really hard with. I actually used to be TERRIFIED of practicing inversions, and my shoulders/arms were so weak I could hardly bend that way or hold myself up. This is definitely not something I achieved overnight and in fact, it took many years of practice before I could do it! Keep your chin up and know that you're not alone." Thanks for watching! -Lauren
The Jellytactics Don't feel discouraged! Sometimes it takes months (if not years) of practicing all the prep work before being able to master the final stage of the pose. Keep in mind that you have to build up the flexibility and strength in the shoulders, the core, the arms, etc., before handstands can come easy. It's definitely taken me a while to develop the strength (not to mention confidence!) to flip my legs over my head :). Keep your chin up and keep practicing! Thanks for watching!
Hi Bailey, Thanks for your comment. I have practiced pointing my toes before, but find that it helps me to engage my core and my legs (as well as shortens my center of gravity) when I flex my feet instead. Also, ironically, the number one injury from inversions is not caused by kicking up into a pose, but rather by breaking toes when you come down from it. Flexing my feet helps me to land on the ball joints of my feet, rather than my toes. Though ultimately, yoga is a personal practice and you should choose your own expression, I just share what works best for me and my body :) Thanks for watching! Lauren

Excellent tutorial~Thank You..
I loved this video it's so useful
Will a door suffice? I don't have sufficient wall space and this video is a fantastic demonstration!

How far apart should your arms be in an ideal handstand because im having problems with stability
+Proscovia Tombe I would recommend that you place your arms a little wider than your shoulders. If the shoulders still feel tight and wobbly, try widening the hands almost to the edges of your mat. Everyone's shoulders and needs are different, so just try a few options and work with what feels best for you body!

Our tubing coach told us to just kick up to it but I some time fall back down and yesterday I did it the wrong way and hurt my risk but it went away
I clicked on this video to learn how to do a handstand but not against the wall. i learned that when I was 6 most people do in gym class or something but for yoga I expect it to be without a wall since I did a preparation for something I'm able to do without thinking
Hit my leg off a dresser,I'm fine but it was loud
Oh no! Glad you're ok! I definitely recommend that if possible, you practice with a wide, empty area around your mat/inversion practice space.
My wrist always hurt during things that you do on your hands what is the proper way to put weight on your hands please help me
u need to practice ur arm strenght u dont have enuf arm strentght do some pull up or push u
My donkey kicks are pretty bad, and so are my kick ups. Is it my arm strength? (or lack of.) If so, what sort of excersizes should I do to improve it.

+TheKymberly13 you're not going to break your neck, and you'll only hit your head if you don't press. The real thing you might need to care about is having space

skepticRN haha :D
Did anyone here even get it right by time? Or is it better to stop
I had to use my elbows instead of my hands.. that was too intense for me lol
J
But I am scared of my head hitting the floor...
Just keep on trying and don't give up!
Hiu Yi Kwok You should but somthing down because if you feel nothing happend to your head and you should calm and dont think about that
Hiu Yi Kwok Put*
keep a pillow underneath to not be scared
it would look better if you would point your toes as a gymnast and would help with coming down as well
Hi Bailey,
