I have that same model and colour Iceman and I love it. I do think it sounds very different to my various Les Pauls with lots of fruity resonance occuring and lovely pickups. As for aesthetics, I'm going to take some photos of my 90 year old mum with it and wearing shades; framing the best one. Irony of course is I'm no spring chicken myself 😎🤘
Nobody does reviews better! Another belter Rich, an unusual comparison on the surface as you mentioned, but a worthwhile exercise. Really cool to see what the Iceman can do- a very versatile choice, and a great option for double humbucker fans!
Thanks so much! Really glad you enjoy my vids 😊 And yes, the Iceman is proper flexible and handles pretty much anything you throw at it - just like a Les Paul. I'd never expected this because I never saw anyone playing anything remotely clean (other than a few test chords) on one before. Goes to show we decide a lot with our eyes, and not our eyes, but now I want an Iceman 😉 More double humbucker fans should try one for sure! Cheers!
Thanks Pavel! These are both excellent guitars... I am not sure if you have spent much time with an Iceman, but I really recommend it if not! Rock on 🔥 Rich
Great comparison as usual Rich. The Ibanez PU's are a bit brighter, which I liked more. However: Recently I added a 7 band EQ pedal to my board, and it amazes me how you can make different guitars with humbuckers sound alike effortlessly and cheaply. I should have bought one decades ago. :)
Thanks a lot! The Iceman is such a surprisingly good sounding, feeling and playing guitar for me. But actually this is a killer point you make here: I've been meaning to grab an EQ and some tonal experiments for ages. They are gamechangers! Did you get the Boss? I also already know I should've bought one decades ago 😉 Scared it's going to make my overdrive collection look a bit silly too!
@@RichWordsMusic Or you might inject some new life into pedals you hardly use anymore. I got me me a Behringer EQ700 to toy around with. It does the job perfectly fine for home use, and it's dirt cheap. 😂
Thanks a lot, glad you enjoyed it! No, I think the headstock you've spotted is from my Ibanez AS 73FM... which is certainly a guitar in that vein too! I would love a Guild or a DeArmond one day :)
Thank you very much! Great comparison! I'm shure you've spend a lot of time for that... To me they sounded very similar, just like you said: the les paul has little bit more bass and the iceman more highs...
I'm happy you enjoyed it! In the end I found this a really interesting comparison too, so it takes time but it's fun also 👍 And yes, surprising how similar these two guitars can sound. With some tweaking of the setup you can make them sound identical for sure... cheers and rock on!
I think the iceman won the day. You could hear the individual strings with much more clarity, particularly on the low end. They both sounded the same on the high end. But the low end clarity has no comparison. Iceman all the way.
You had some strange insights at the beginning of the video. If I didn't know beforehand how much these guitars are worth, I probably would have thought that the Ibanez is worth several times more - that classic beautiful Iceman shape and great workmanship versus another boring LP copy repeated for the millionth time
They're both amazing guitars GAHHHH THIS IS SO CLOSE!! When it comes to the middle and lower end i gotta give it to the Iceman. I do think the Les Paul is doing better with the higher notes though. It seems like it really depends on specific riffs and chord progressions which one will win the battle.
@@PooNinja I hope they continue producing frm guitar , not just only one frm . But all of them , even expanding them into 24 frets or with floating bridge
Very nice review and cool guitars. Thank you mister Rich. You should really do a Demo on the EVH Wolfgang Special (or the Standard version). Now that is the ultimate and most perfect rock 'n' roll machine. It was designed by the late-great Eddie Van Halen and it also has 2 special hand-wound humbuckers. Great for playing Rock, Jazz, blues, metal-shredding, Pop, punk, disco, country music and anything else you can invent.
Thanks a lot, I am glad you enjoyed the comparison! You know, I've never really tried a Wolfgang... they look awesome, and I was surprised how affordable the Standard one is. Anything designed by Eddie must have something special about it I think... I will see if I can track one down at some point! And then play all my different genres on it and see how it handles them 😉 Thanks for the suggestion and rock on!
@@RichWordsMusic Thank you, you might just end up buying an EVH for yourself. I have been looking to buy an Epiphone Les Paul style from Thomann (in Germany) and your review-demo is very good. They also make nice affordable and good Harley-Benton versions, I think some Epiphones are now made in Indonesia, which I prefer much more than "made in China". This is from my past purchases on guitars made in Asia. The Indonesian guitars have better quality control and better finishes now. As for the Ibanez "Iceman" it also looks good, but its not my type of design. I am sure "KISS" fans will adore it.
@@RichWordsMusic it's a fun rabbithole! got an ibanez Ps120, a custom made one from a local luthier and going for a icecaster (iceman body+tele config) now!

The Iceman definitely has some magic to it! I am loving it too.

Can't argue with the Iceman! Such a great rock guitar.
Epiphone sounds thicker by the heavy riffs...
It does - this Les Paul loves the dirty stuff! The Iceman is surprisingly classic sounding in comparison.
