Michael Jordan 2002: NBA Record 51 pts at age 38

  • LEARN TO SCORE LIKE MJ: cli.gs/HowToScoreLikeMJ
    At age 38 and 315 days, MJ shattered the record for the oldest player to score 50+. The game prior had MJ scoring just 6 due to injury which stopped his NBA-record double-figures scoring streak at 866 games. MJ came out to make up for that here. It should be mentioned that MJ's injury limited him to just 2 full-game scrimmages the entire year in practice. One must wonder, without the injury, what might have been possible at ages 38-40? Zone was allowed starting that year with hand-checking tighter than today as one-legged, twilight MJ broke a few records that day.

AT F*CKIN 40 years old ... AND HE WAS A GUARD/FORWARD!!!!!!!!! Not a BIG or a CENTER but a G/F... #GOAT

    Absolutely incredible that he averaged 20 ppg the season he turned 40. I had thought he didn't average a lot in those two years with the Wizards but then I looked it up and he averaged 22.2 and 20 the year he was 39-40 years of age. I mean that's just unbelievable. By far the greatest to ever lace em up.

      @SealofPerfection Год назад

      It's more incredible considering he was retired for 3 years. When you get older, if you don't use it, you lose it.
      MJ definitely had lost a step, quickness and vertical-wise, but he was still one of the top 10 players after sitting for 3 years. It's amazing, really.
      Plus the fact that he really only had 1 good leg the entire time as well.

  • @JavierArochoVega
    @JavierArochoVega 9 лет назад +15

    Man, if MJ would kept throwing shots like he did in the first quarter, he would scored like 88 or 90pts in that game. Sadly he started to pass the ball and slow his scoring. Now I can see why Kobe imitate Michael in everything, is the only way to succeed in this sport. MJ implemented the perfect game, without any weakness. If Mj would play with today's rules that obviously benefit scorers, Kobe's 81 would be surpassed by like 97 or 105 pts of Mj. And not just that!!! Mj would be averaged like 55 pts per game. At 40 he showed how good he was. Simply amazing!!!

      through the first half of the 01/02 season he was still a top 5 player in the league before his knee injury happened. through 46 games he averaged 25-6-5 (numbers only Tmac would put up at the end of the season),
      and he led the 19-win Wizards to a 26-21 record (Jordan missed 1 game, 26-20 when he played). and they were missing Rip Hamilton for 5 weeks in that stretch as well. They were 15-1 when both Rip and MJ played together before the injury. following his injury they lost 9/10 games and fell out the playoff race as Jordan's numbers took a hit, then he was never the same after his knee injury

      @@Delksy1524 The author is Pulitzer Prize winner David Halberstam who also wrote another great book about the 1978 Blazers "The Breaks of the Game". I have a copy of Playing for Keeps. I highly recommend it also. The Last Dance docu series borrows a lot from Halberstam's technique and structure of jumping around the differrent timelines of the book's subjects. It is very candid about MJ without any muckraking. It creates a complex, intimate picture of MJ as a once in a century talent but also shows the complex sociocultural economic factors that helped make him an icon.

Just shows how Jordans fire never died cus he wanted to play for as long as he could

      @@jasonjasonson9154 Jordan had a broken jumper? That's news to me. He was money from mid-range from the start. Heck, he hit 44.7% of his 3PT shots at UNC when they had the experimental 3PT line. He could've been a knock down 3PT shooter early in his career if that's what his coaches wanted.

    • @Delksy1524
      @Delksy1524 4 года назад

      Easily bro he would be unstoppable - the other argument is the 3 point shooting and I’m like have y’all ever heard about MJ’s work ethic? If the game was more oriented around the 3 point shot then that’s what he would implement into his rigorous training/practices, and would have perfected the 3 ball to match the current style of play. Hell even without a huge emphasis on him to shoot the 3 ball he still had a decent outside game and had a few games totally on fire from behind the arc. His unwavering will and determination would have catapulted him to the top of any era. Damn i miss watching dude play ball

    jordan so fun to watch : he's really fundamentally sound and his fadeaways and post moves are the best thing that happened to the nba, nowadays it's just run fast and dunk hard on someone : that's fun too but mixing it up with finesse is better.

    There will never be a debate about who the greatest basketball player is of all time without it starting with Michael Jordan. Even people who never watched basketball will say Michael Jordan, because his greatness transcended his sport. Jordan’s on-court accomplishments are something to marvel at, but how used his talent to make himself practically bigger than the sport that made him is still an awe-inspiring feat.

    The graphics coming up showing how many points he has and the field goal shooting, then looking at the Wizards score is just plain sick. At one point, he had 45 points and the Wizards had 82 total. Incredible.

    MJ was flat out sick. Didnt matter how old he was, how long he was away from the game, if he had the flu, etc. He just always found ways to dominate.
    People talk about his athleticism alot, but even as he was losing some of it his high basketball IQ still got it done on the court.

    Aside from everything he can do and what he accomplished as a player, people dont realize how smart MJ is. Very high IQ and that helped develop his game into something we have never witnessed until he came into the league. Add a hate to lose attitude like no other and you have a machine, simply the greatest.
