Potts Ranch, abandoned since the 1940's, stands alone in the middle of a virtually uninhabited desert valley about the size of New Jersey - the Monitor Valley in central Nevada, stretching through Nye County. Very little information on this ranch exists, but I've been able to find enough to piece together this vague history of the house and former post office. Let's explore this peaceful, windswept ruin and the geothermal vent nearby known as "Diana's Punch bowl".
Located about 40 miles north of Belmont, this was home to the Potts family from 1870 to 1940. Belmont was the nearest major population at the founding of the ranch, but by the time the ranch closed, Belmont was a ghost town as well. Behind the ranch house are several out buildings including store sheds, outhouses, and a stable, most of which likely are as old as the ranch itself.
I've been to this site three times since 2015. The ranch is on private property, but non-intrusive visitors are permitted. On the last visit, a "No Trespassing" sign was on the wall. Interior footage was shot on visits before that sign was put up.

For years I've been wondering about the story behind this house. I came upon it 7 years ago while driving through Monitor Valley. Thank you so much for this video!

I was born and live in this high desert country .
And since these and other videos are being posted the Vandalism has been heartbreaking .
    Over 100 year old wind
Mills pulled down for kicks and cabins ransacked for "artifacts" ..
Hope to catch one of them one day .

About 10 years ago, I stopped and got some pictures of the old Verboom dairy on the highway near the Pala Casino in San Diego County, California. The houses were all boarded up so I refrained from entering them. Afterwards, I found other pictures on-line showing the interior of the houses and was quite saddened that others didn't have the same respect. It is one thing to see a building slowly falling into ruin, quite another to see it trashed by partyers.

Embarrassing as it is to say me and some friends came through here in the early 90s and we drank a bunch of beer in the house. But to add to my credit we did take the empty beer cans with us and tried not to leave any trash out there that wasn't trash from 100 years ago.

One thing that I love about the west is just how well preserved things are. Here in the Deep South, the vegetation claims anything that the humidity and rot doesn’t.

In 1 Summer in the South, the entire structure can be "dressed in vines" and Host countless Spiders.
You might enjoy my perspective on Nevada, having been raised in Tennessee:
I find it a bit Philosophical that: Water, necessary for Life, for Living, is the medium that allows for the breakdown to "decompose" all organics not consumed by nature's critters. Moisture is the 1st to establish the decay.
I lived in Nevada for 17 years, the experiences served me up vast enjoyment. I traveled nationally calling on Fortune 500 Corporations to sell, manage, and assist with various needs associated with DOT/Department of Transportation and other Federally Mandated Drug Testing Programs, providing the SAMHSA Certified Forensic Laboratory Services and other details for the Clients needs in managing their National Locations.
I raised my son in Nevada. I was born in Chicago, my Dad relocated us to his home area in NW Tennessee. I still can feel the longing for going home, total culture shock. Graduated "University of Memphis" and had my son there.
I met and remarried a Vocal artist managed by Sinatra's People and ... book worthy experiences followed, but all was anchored through my priorities, (Mom, Home, Career, and then my husbands Career).
I loved living in Nevada, it remains a most positive era of my life, the state and the unique cast of friends, those who lived in Nevada and those who were ass9c8ated with the Entertainment business. (The most gifted and talented musicians, Vocalists, comedians, and producers. Celebrities, many actually referenced as Stars, all People with their own lives and stories, and all living life, just like you and me, just in their Career path.
Yet there is a sort of special that we apply to those with such talent and fame. But, they remain people with needs and desires, and several I hold as being heart felt friends. Most have departed to return to Nonphysical, thankfully I know "only the Vessel expires", our true self, Soul is eternal.
... and that's what Nevada shall always be a reminder of, life, gifts, talent, laughter, friends, and our eternal Soul Energies.
In Tennessee now, focused on creative endeavors and choosing a next location to discover and enjoy the people I attract into my life experiences.
Everything is Attraction, Attraction, Attraction, for the "Universal Law of Attraction" is Absolute, it is the how of energy flow, it is the Divine Design.
It is how we each create our own Reality:
      "Thoughts + Feelings X Beliefs"
      = Our Frequency
      = Our Reality
That's what I reflect when I think of that wonderful state, Nevada.
The South might have a location that inspires that positive feeling, maybe I will discover it ... on my way West again.

Wow! I'm so grateful to Tom and Emma for preserving the story and images of this lonely place which if events don't change will pass from history soon. These videos are beautiful and informative and haunting. The boiling cauldron called Diana's Bowl is hot enough to cook someone hapless enough to fall in! Something in me wants to go there and put new plywood on that roof, roll sheeting over it and put new shingles on top. Something in me wants to save that house before the memories of the man who built it and his family are lost to time forever.

I have been to Monitor valley. The best way to describe it is. Miles of miles, followed by more miles. Its actually very beautiful. You have to look at these valleys in the context of what they are. It is very foolish to compare any landscape to a different type of landscape. Remember its apples to apples, not oranges to apples

I could say so much of a few screenshots I've taken and shared on Facebook, that have inspired me, but YT is very limiting in what I can do within the comment section, though they "present" their service in such a way that it makes one think that one has some form of expression that is not controlled by the very platforms on which we speak. Better to have NO PLATFORMS than to be controlled by one-sided, and ever-changing "Terms of Service" conditions, which they call "agreements".
