This is actually really interesting. Everyone always talks about how much cancer cells love sugar, but this is the first time I've heard about fat, and cancer research used to be my job. I wish the cancer research department I used to work in would have considered diet at all in their work. It was taboo to talk about anything that wasn't T-cells (including other immune cells, sadly.) From the work I did, it seems that one of the reasons why treatment can drive metastasis is because the treatment kills off the weaker cells, but if it isn't strong enough to kill all the cells, we're naturally selecting for the more resistant cells in a person's body, and once the treatment is done and the pressure is taken off those surviving cells, they have an ideal environment to proliferate and spread, which can happen very quickly in some cases. This was something that made my work very frustrating since the treatment I was helping to develop wasn't particularly strong to begin with. They can't all be winners (and most of them won't be. Cancer is a very difficult problem to tackle.)

I think we need to read the studies. Usually "high fat" in research does not mean high fat low carb 0 sugar. it usually means high fat high sugar (simple carbs). Some recent studies actually make a distinction but every old study and most new ones do not.

    • @m0L3ify
      @m0L3ify 6 месяцев назад

Maybe, but when you compare a high-fat and control group where only the fat content in the food is changed, and you see a difference, the variable is the dietary fat and causation can be inferred. Obviously it's going to depend on whether the study is a very controlled animal study, a very controlled human study in a medical facility, or self-reported diet from people just living their lives. But when it's done in animals, experimental and control food are very carefully matched. Vendors will even sell them pre-made so it's easy to order and you don't have to go back and forth on the phone with a rep, which I have done for custom orders where a drug was added to the food. But for a widely used generic chow like high fat, it's going to be made ready to order.
I also know that in diabetes studies in monkeys on a campus I used to work at, the high fat food did not have a lot of sugar in it, and they had to add high fructose corn syrup to the diet to make the monkeys fat because, even though they developed Type 2 on the high fat diet, they were still skinny and thus not a good model of human obesity for publication. Which does lend credence to dietary fat alone being a cause of disease. The researchers weren't initially giving them sugar to induce disease. They gave them sugar later to make them fat independent of the disease so they could publish their results because journals want everything to be obesity-related even though skinny people can get diabetes, too.
So, yes, read the papers. That's always a good idea. If the Materials and Methods section mentions specific brand of food used, which it should for reproducibility, you can easily look that up to find out what the ingredients and nutrition content are. But do keep in mind that if the sugar content of both experimental and control are the same, and a significant difference is found, the culprit is very likely the only changed variable in the equation - the fat.

Every human can sense when they’ve eaten something that does the body good versus the opposite. Be mindful eaters, be kind to your body and to nature/animals... and you won’t ever have to be concerned with bacteria/mucus/viruses or cancer cells entering your temple!

No I do not believe it is. Fat storages in humans "The fat stored is in a semi-liquid state, and is composed primarily of triglycerides, and cholesteryl ester."
So this is not the type of Fat Dr. Greger is talking about in this video.
Though excess weight does lead to a higher chance of cancer like Happy Cook already said. But this is due to the inflammatory nature of fat storages damaging cells and membranes and with it doing more damage than our body can repair in a certain amount of time. So overweight increase the load on our repair / damage balance mechanisms and with that increase the odds that they miss something or do not attent to it on time before it gets into the first mutation fase and becomes untracable by our natural defenses.

Also fat content changes in breast milk day to day and supposedly drops off the older the infant becomes, do CD36 levels remain 20-30% ? At what stage in the infant's life were the samples taken?
Are levels that high because mothers are ingesting and passing it on or is it naturally produced at that level regardless?

@@MissMarinaCapri Looks like eggs and canola oil don't contain much saturated fat compared to flesh, dairy, or palm oil. That said, Greger has a ton of videos on his site that discourage people eating flesh, eggs, dairy, and all types of oils (some more than others).
I think it all depends on how serious one is about health. Someone super serious will pursue a 100% whole food, plant-based diet that is as fresh as possible, plus a B12 supplement, with no animal products, no oils, etc. This way you get the most quality nutrients per calorie with the least risk.
If you're playing the comparison game and have set an arbitrary standard of what's acceptable and what's not, then raw oils with low saturated fat will beat cooked, canola will beat palm, and so forth.
Eggs I can't really in a "lesser of evils" lifestyle. While part of me wants to say they have less saturated fat and are therefore better than say, steak and cheese, you'll still find high levels of estrogen and other reasons to avoid eggs (I highly recommend checking out Michael Greger's website and typing in whatever specific thing you are interested in, like eggs, oil, cheese, etc)
In short, while I'd *definitely* avoid flesh, dairy, eggs, and palm oil, I'd *try* to avoid or at least limit unideal things like oil in general.

    • @ludicrousone8706

Doctors recommending a plant based diet discourage the use of all oils. For one they contain 9 calories per 1gram, pure sugars contain 4 calories per 1 gram.
And oils are refined products, similar to white flour, where the original plant is separated into its fibre and oil content.
So oil consumption is discouraged. For salads you could use but utters in the dressing or look for one of the many recipies for vegan fat free dressing
