Holy sh*t, it's true! Why you had to do this to me, Peenix, why?
Because y'all think I'm "pee" coloured.
@@PhoenixSC0:17 but you are
Look at the stone hoe and iron hoe stick texture veeeery closely
@PeenixSC you have ruined redstone torches indefinitely, I can never see it the same again.
Yellow=Pee :O
Fun fact: levers in the inventory are actually unlit torches.
Stop
god I know, why have they done this to us
What have you done...
Well there's a fix for that too
Now i can't unsee
I mean, technically you can see yellow/white "cores" in the center even if the flames have different colors. Like if you burn strontium(which burns in the color red) the edges are definitely red in color but the center usually is more yellower or white, or even blue since its hotter at the center 🤓
But aren't redstone torches just made of redstone, which normally glows in the dark, so there is no fire needed? That's also why they glow less, and can be used as a redstone source
I think that it's probably due to the brightness washing out the camera sensors causing it to become white, or maybe significant incandescence and blackbody radiation could play a role (not about minecraft)
I dont like how you have to call yourself a nerd before someone else does if you want to explain.
Reminds me of a philosophical question. What makes something "red"? Is a car "red" if it has a white body and red doors?
@@PhoenixSCNah a car’s red if it’s red. That’s white and red.
Sometimes the 'glow' around something is enough to give the impression of the entire light being that color.
For example in Star Wars, every lightsaber blade is actually white, and the color is only in the glow around the blade. But the actual blade is white.
That's a property of the camera, not the blade. The light is colored, but in the center it's so bright that the color bleeds into the other channels and appears white. This is how all cameras behave, so VFX in films like Star Wars try to emulate that look since we subconsciously expect to see it.
For some examples, look for videos of (real) explosions
@antonliakhovitch8306 you're literally just making crap up.... objects can get white hot. It's a manner of frequency, not color blending....
@@Sammysapphira Regular fire doesn't normally get white hot, but on video it looks white in the center. You can verify this by pointing a camera at a bright fire and turning the exposure waaay down so the surroundings look black - you'll see that the fire is entirely orange. If you then expose for the surroundings again, the center of the fire looks white. I've played around with this myself, but Corridor Crew's realistic lightsaber video has a pretty good discussion.
@@antonliakhovitch8306 I think that happens with your eyes to some degree too, if I'm not mistaken.

“One must imagine the pillager happy”.
0:30 I always knew this fact. Because I used to mess around with textures and install texture packs (Mumbo's old texture pack changes the redstone torch too)
My interpretation of this is that the red circle is some sort of semi transparent red covering that lets enough enough oxygen inside for the torch to keep burning. Since the covering isn't entirely transparent, the light emitted by a Redstone torch is dimmer than an ordinary torch.
Or maybe red torches look weird idk
I think the red circle is just the redstone dust coating the stick. I thought redstone was like the stuff that coats matchsticks.
The reason why coal torches are smaller is because the coal replaces are portion of the stick, so it stays the same size. Additionally, one coal crafts four torches, so the coal is smaller anyway. Just my head canon.
@@czpiaor this feels smarter. You are smarter than a talking tree.
@czpiaor The stuff that coats matchsticks is powdered phosphorus, a key element to life and a resource scarce around the world. Redstone torches also emit single-redstone-dust particles, while the coal and soul torch emit flames. The Redstone torch may be crafted by a coal torch and a pinch of paprika, but let's gecreal here. It's just a light bulb on a stick. So be it.(. Or ?)
No. The red circle is representaion of glowing halo. Nothing more. So they're the same in size.
And the redstone torch isn't burning, it doesn't have anything to burn.
@@czpiaor They aren't smaller. Coal doesn't replace anything. Your whole comment makes no sense lol.
Cobblestone and netherrack being the same pattern is only for the old textures that were replaced several updates ago, although IIRC cobblestone and endstone still have the same pattern. Same is true for stone and bedrock.
Right. And if you spectate an Enderman, cobblestone appears as end stone and vice versa.
So why can't we have mossy end stone?
netherrack, cobblestone, obsidian and endstone all have the same patterns

According to the old Minecraft tips, this is because netherrack is just the nether version of cobblestone; but this was changed in the nether update to where blackstone was the nether version of cobblestone, even being used in the same recipes.
Wow! So glad you're back, Love the facecam 😊
Fun fact: just like in real life, “colored” flames emit the color due to the type of fuel and amount burning off of it. Hence, the redstone torch being only red on the outside actually makes sense
I honestly thought everyone knew this especially the cobble stone and netherack thing. Fun fact: netherack was originally called blood stone but got changed because it wasn't family friendly. If you go back to an earlier version of the game it still looks like bloody cobble stone.

Seriously a campfire to cook food without having to use durability on your shoves and flint and steel would be cool :). Maybe an overhaul to Redstone (which would change the name to the Redstone Update)
Shovels*
i think the confusion arises when the red stone torch is off, because when its off you can tell theyre different but when its on its just the red glow that distinguishes the two
Honestly they should just let torches get waterlogged instead of destroyed and the flame gets snuffed out. Could let people turn them off with a waterbucket and on with flint and steel (or just break them and place it back ig)
That is how campfires work so it would make a lot of sense
It wouldn't work as you imagine, because to waterlog a block you need to have two water sources near it or fill it directly. Flowing water can't waterlog, so you imagine having a thin stick holding a whole block from water? That doesn't make sense even for minecraft.
Is noone going to tell him that you get 4 torches but only 1 redstone torch when crafting? Makes me wonder where the extra materials for the torch come from.
we look at one side in inventory
Perhaps red stone is harder to make so you mess it up 75% of the time, ruining the materials and only getting you 1
The extra wood is used to sustain the flame in the absence of coal.
@@VeryPeeved There is no flame in redstone torches.
It's not extra materials. The redstone torch has the same size as coal torch. So it's a loss of materials. Your math and logic are really bad.

Also, this isn't Schrödinger's villager, this is a villager Catch-22.
My idea is that its just a torch with some redstone powder sprinkled on the flame, this dims the light because there is red covering it and it activates stuff because heat or fire movement is in contact with the redstone (similar to hitting the ore but constantly)
you just explained science without explaining it at all.

The redstone torch isn't shorter is just the glow in the front of the last pixels you can see that when the torch is off
Steve has the same design than Alex
The old netherrack texture uses an older version of the cobblestone texture. Its basically just colored. And it also had some extra more saturated red lines ontop. Which makes sense as notch used to call it "bloodstone"
I actually discovered this when overlaying the old textures together in Photoshop. I also discovered which pixels were not on the original cobblestone model. And then recreated the texture. Pretty Interesting.
Its the same with the creeper. Notch messed about with the pig texture's coloring and then put the old alpha leaves over the top of said texture.

Redstone torch is a normal torch but fancy and you can turn torches off and on... insanity
It would be hard for people who are color blind or just can't see well to tell the difference between a red torch and an orange torch, so they added some red outline to make it stand out, and seem stronger, since it DOES output power, unlike the other torches (so far).

Well, the more you know.
Also, to answer your question on the netherack texture, I'm not sure about the new texture but the OLD netherack texture actually was just the cobblestone texture, but bloody looking. It was even referred to as "bloodstone" at one point. Now I do know that in both textures (old and new) that the endstone texture is basically just an inverted cobblestone texture.
Also about that lever thing, Terraria actually has a feature where you can disable the lighting on a torch.
The torch isn't shorter, it's just the halo colouring it red. You can see it being shaded to math the darker part of the torch.
2:10 Dude, they're literally the same height if without halo. Redstone torch isn't shorter, but LONGER because of the halo.
Have you processed yet that the red glow isn't part of the physical flame block, so it's not shorter, that's just the red glow cast on the wood, hence the two shades of red on either side.
ngl, being able to toggle torches using redstone would be pretty cool

Regular torches were the first to be implemented to Minecraft: Java Edition, it is a part of the early development phases of Indev. And they weren't as reliable not until Survival was focused on more.
Redstone torches in the other hand, were first added in Alpha 1.0.1, alongside with other Redstone based items.

If you count the pixels of the red outline, you will notice there is 8 of them on the 2d image. This is greater than the 4 yellow pixels, so from a distance it definitely is more red :D
I noticed this awhile ago, was quite the surprise! xD
It got me thinking, perhaps Redstone functions based on interaction? And since the fire from the Torch is constantly interacting with the Redstone, it's always activated!
(this is further supported by the fact that Redstone Ore activates whenever it's touched)
No, you're not right.
1) There is no fire in the torch, there's nothing to burn.
2) Nothing touches the redstone block, but it's always active. But if you walk on redstone dust, it won't activate at all.
@@fantastikboom1094 My theory for Redstone Blocks is that there's such a high density of Redstone tightly packed together, that it's constantly activating itself.
Maybe Redstone Dust is the opposite? There's so little that simple interactions aren't enough?
In any case, it'd be terrible Game Design if it functioned the same as Redstone Ore.
And who's to say the Redstone Torch *isn't* meant to be a basic Torch surrounded by Redstone?
