    DESCRIPTION:
    Upon popular request, the Centres of Excellence for ASD and for Behaviour Management have joined forces to provide participants with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive approach to behavioural support for students with ASD. Behaviour is a form of communication that can present in challenging ways and may disrupt learning in a classroom setting. "What to do when" tends to be the universal concern for teachers and other school staff when dealing with these behaviours. This presentation will utilize trauma/neuroscience-informed practices to shed light on how to best support students with ASD in the classroom and within the school community.
    ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
    Andrew Bennett, PhD, OPQ, is a clinical psychologist and coordinator of two specialized intervention teams within the Lester B Pearson School Board (LBPSB) who support students with significant social-emotional-behavioral difficulties (SEBDs) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and their families. Attachment-aware, trauma-informed, and ASD best practices provide the theoretical framework that guides the work of both teams. Prior to joining LBPSB, Andrew worked in hospital and children’s mental health centre-based psychiatric programs in both Toronto and Ottawa.
    Kim Segal has over 18 years of professional experience supporting children and teenagers with special needs. She has worked in a variety of settings, including public schools, private clinics, and in-home therapy. For the past three years, Kim has worked as an Autism Consultant for the Lester B Pearson School Board. In this role, she has worked with students ranging from 3-21 years of age with a variety of learning profiles and psychiatric comorbidities. She has also worked with their families, caregivers and outside services to create individualized treatment plans.
    Catherine Korah, MEd, OPQ, Coordinator of CEBM, has over 15 years of professional experience in a number of elementary and secondary educational settings with students who struggle with behaviours challenges. She has been actively involved in providing professional development, consultation, and liaising with various health and social service agencies. Catherine is very adept at finding developmentally friendly and trauma-informed solutions for students at all levels. Catherine is trained to provide professional development in the Neufeld developmental paradigm.
