@@lucas5665 funnily enough, Perrault's version of Sleeping Beauty does have a sequel! They go to the Prince's kingdom, but he is called away to war and while he is gone Sleeping Beauty's mother-in-law (who is an ogress) tries to eat Sleeping Beauty and her children. The cook helps trick the queen into thinking she's eating them when actually she's just eating deer meat. When the queen finds out she's been tricked she orders that the princess and cook be thrown into a coffin full of snakes. Fortunately the prince comes home at that moment. The queen is so embarrassed that she jumps into the coffin herself. Sleeping Beauty, the prince and their children live happily ever after.

The main reason is that even though it was the second-highest grossing movie of 1959 (right after "Ben Hur") it was so expensive to produce that the profit-margin was relatively-small. It also took a very, _very_ long time to produce, taking about 6 years (Don Bluth said they felt like they were painting The Last Supper.) Both factors (but primarily the expense ) caused Disney to start cutting back considerably on future animated features & for a time, there was a definite possibility that the animation department might've been closed altogether.

People overlook early Disney movies, especially Sleeping Beauty for the sole fact that it doesn't fit into modern standards of feminism. But they don't understand that those movies still don't degrade women. It's just that they are fairy tales and are not focused solely on sending a strong message through the mc, but making the atmosphere ethereal and paying equal attention to the secondary characters along with the art, music, singing, setting etc. The main characters don't have more screentime than the rest of those things, but still, the focus is on them. They are not forgotten or overshadowed. And people complain how little lines Aurora has, while they rarely complain how little lines or roles the princes in Snow White, Cinderella and The Little Mermaid have. It's not always about that, but how much that character's lines and screentime leave an impact. And that's why Aurora's presence in this movie is quite enough.

I did always love Maleficent more than any other character. But I never thought that Aurora didn't have a good character or personality. I'll admit that I didn't see much other motivation in her other than that she wanted to be with Phillip, but I hadn't realized in my younger years just how much she was going through not mainly because of some romantic love, but because much of her life got turned upside down in just one evening. Can you imagine having to go through that? And remember when she was just about to prick her finger? She hesitated for just a moment showing that she had the strength to resist the curse even for just that moment, despite all that she was going through.
Even now, I still love Maleficent's character the most, but I'm glad to have focused more on Aurora's feelings in the movie as well as the fairies.

Even though this film is suppose to be about Princess Aurora, the three good fairies are the actual central characters/protagonists since the story focuses on them throughout most of the film. Therefore, Aurora is sadly the "false protagonist" of this film. The bright side to this is that over time, Princess Aurora became popular throughout Disney media and became part of the Disney Princess franchise.

Everyone thinks that Disney's most iconic era is the 90s Renaissance, but I'd beg to differ and say that the 1950s (the Silver age, but the Golden age is just as important) is the most iconic and memorable era; it showed proof that Walt Disney & his crew poured their hearts and souls into the making of their movies. Most of the 90s Disney movies are amazing and some even match the charming of the older films. However, the thing is, the films from the 50s had *the* one and only Walt Disney working on them (even if he was also working on live action films and Disneyland) which makes the films he produced all the more magical; something that even the later movies couldn't live up to. Anything made in Walt's era could NEVER be remade or topped.

beautifully done…Sleeping Beauty is so brilliant and stylistically different from every other Disney animation project before and after…it showed more care and iconic design for its female characters, and in our opinion holds up better than any of its animated peers.
The actors used in the animation guides were so fantastic, and the animators were so brilliant and drew such beautiful, rich female characters in the fairy godmothers, Briar Rose, Maleficent…and of course the marriage of Tchaikovsky’s score and Mary Costa’s voice were just magic 🪄✨

Aurora is my favourite Disney princess and here are all the reasons why she was better than all of them.
1-appearance? she is literally the most beautiful one.
2-personality? I can tell you that how much innocent she was in all kinds of good ways a girl should be which isn't just considers being kind or dreamy. other princesses did have some sort of temper(I'm saying this cause there are some close minded people who say anger might be the beginning of the darkside) I can't even tell one of moment that Aurora lost temper or was angry or blamed anyone. just cried by herself instead of making others feel bad or annoyed(some ignorant people also like to use the word of crybaby)
3-feminine? of course and completely in a good way! I mean why exactly some who call themselves feminist, think women with masculine power, or those who act like men, are the only strong ones in female spices? that's literally the opposite and women can be strong by being feminine and without any masculine features.
4-smart or wise? well certainly Aurora isn't the one who opened her arms for a stranger by the first second of physical touch and definitely wouldn't accept an apple from a person she doesn't even know! and also she also felt heartbroken over not being able to be with Philip but that didn't made her to go and make deal with the sea witch, sacrificing literally all she has and potentially her soul for a fling. and also she wanted to get know him, not marrying him cause she likes him, she invited him to know him better and was heartbroken when that chance was taken away.
and to those who say she didn't had screen time, I will say, the effect a character puts on a story, is a hell stronger than screen time! I also saw so many main protagonists with a hell of screen time who had zero effect to the story and simply were "just there" Aurora wasn't like that at all.
