The 29 year old had created a big platform for himself with his entertaining videos and live streams mainly playing Nintendo games. This death has had a huge effect on the RUclips community, True Geordie and Laurence McKenna try and tackle a sensitive issue sharing their own experiences in the hope of helping others and preventing this from happening again.

    I'm glad you acknowledged the chemical aspect of depression. Not everyone who suffers has had anything actually to happen to them that could prompt these feelings. That's why you can't predict that everyone is fine. Massive respect to everyone

    • @peaceunion5316
      @peaceunion5316 5 лет назад +3

      Depression doesn't just "happen" though. Yes, whenever depression occurs, it is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. But depression is a symptom, not a cause - as there are certain requirements either genetic/environmental (or both) that increase the likelihood of becoming depressed. There is always a cause and an effect.

    • @BaileyBaratheon
      @BaileyBaratheon 5 лет назад +3

      I partially disagree, by things "happening" I'm referring to death of a loved one, relationship crisis and other life problems. I believe these things can cause one to be depressed. However, indeed a chemical imbalance can cause depression without any of these events occurring.
      Ellis' ABC model in reference to the psychology of depression describes the 'A' as an activating agent that leads to a particular belief and consequence. Therefore, this suggests that something from the environment can cause depression. However, I believe the chemical aspect has a huge influence, which is why I praised this podcast in my original comment

    In PE, I've learned that by joining sports and clubs like sunday league, you are able to release stress and belong to a group which helps with you feeling less isolated! I assume you didn't know that but I also see students who just brush past that and kinda ignore that it can help you with some fucked up stuff. Much Love Brian and Laurence❤

    I used my university's free counselling service 10 years ago when I was 19 and my mental health was at its worst. The problem was that - being free - the waiting list was a mile long so I was rarely ever in the right mindset to go and have a productive conversation. I got very little out of it. I think the difficulty in accessing mental health services really compounds the issue: more often than not you're either stuck on a waiting list for CBT for months on end or you have to pay through the nose.
    It's so important for people (especially the young lads who watch this podcast) to see you guys talking so openly and frankly about mental health issues. Amazing stuff, guys.

    I've not seen much of True Geordie's podcasts just a few here and there. I have to say after seeing this he's a really good bloke. To hear someone speaking some openly like this who from the outside would seem to most like an very confident guy who is sure of himself, has helped me a bit. I've gone through a lot of the same things and am still going through them but knowing people come out the other side like True Geordie has gives you hope.
    It's awful what happened to Etika. I thought a lot of the same things said in the podcast when I saw the video he made before his death, I thought if this was a livestream the amount of people who would be telling Etika not to do it. That he has so much to live for, so many people love him and his work.
    I even thought to myself I wish I could be walking past him and know what he's going through. Then I could talk to him, buy him a coffee and tell him I've felt what he feels. Many have felt what he feels, his fans, friends and family love him. That he's not alone and he never will be. It's fucking shit his journey ended how it did and when it did, I got a lot of enjoyment out of his videos and he was a very nice guy, he would of gone on to do even greater things.
