she should release this, girl need to do rock, pop and gospel forget r and b cause hip hop done killed r and b
Clive Davis (J Records) doesn't want to scare away "the fans" who want Fantasia to be cute 24/7 and cry after every song ;-)
just great!!!
@simplycarlos, not sure what your point is, it doesn't make much sense. Did you notice I uploaded this video in 2007? Fantasia + Midi Mafia recorded this for her second album in 2006.
Yeh thats what i was thinking. I heard Nicole's song late last year, i didn't even know this song existed until a couple days back so if it was recorded for "Fantasia" they prolly recycled the beat thinking that the Nicole song wouldn't blow up like a Tasia song would.
@derekrhodes, OK, so she created a tracklist and she talked about it in interviews and mentioned all these songs that did not turn up on the album. My point is that they (Clive Davis probably) didn't use her tracklist on the final product.
@MarvinRashadTV, OK, cool that they reused it. But this was the original. Fantasia in an interview around that time said she had convinced Midi Mafia to bring the live drums in.
Just added: 'Fantasia - No Stoppin (unreleased)'
3 months later it aint here............... WHERE YOU LYING
@dfjkslsdfjkl, no, it's an outtake from the second album 'Fantasia'. I don't know why it was left off.
Nicole Wray used this beat for "I'll Take Your Man"....you can search for it on here. THATS prolly why it didn't make the album. Anyhow i'm feeling this ..sounds like some Ike and Ada-Mae stuff lol.
I thought her last album was definately a step in the right direction, but people on fan boards hated tracks like Hood Boy, BMH and Bore Me. Label/management now seem to have concluded the new direction was a failure and that Broadway and ballads is the way to go for the future.
The Nicole Wray song was out before this was even recorded
This only strengthens my case that Tasia has the potential to become a female James Brown. There is clearly a place in the industry for her if the powers that be stop trying to make her over. This should have released as a single "overseas". It would have been an international hit for her.
I blame Clive Davis. When he signed her to J Records, he just threw in that R&B box. Fantasia should've went the Tina Turner route. Her voice is pure rock with a soulful edge. Fantasia could've been a international star by now. Clive Davis don't know nothing about how to market singers.
Broadway may be the key commercially because she has narrowminded fans that don't want her to stray from her American Idol character. They only want her to do show tunes and be this made-for-tv prestigious award-winning Oprah drama queen. Fantasia is always saying in interviews she wants to do rock, hear her music in clubs, do not just ballads, etc. The "fans" won't let her. They don't care about the music, they're only interested in the Cinderella back story.
@simplycarlos, no, again, this is the original. Fantasia convinced producers Midi Mafia to bring a live drummer in for this. No sampled beats here.
modifiedcontent Sorry to bust your bubble, but this is a sample. "Go For Yourself" by The Meters. The only thing that was added was a drum kick.
I dunno about that. Nicole's version was from 2007, but in the music industry, when an artist doesn't use a beat for their album or a song doesn't make the final release, producers tend to pass the beat and/or song to another artist. That is what happened in this situation- Fantasia didn't use it, so the producders gave Nicole the beat, and Nicole made a better song with it. Fantasia's song sounds all over the place while Nicole's sound more cohesive. Plus, Nicole wrote her own lyrics.
@derekrhodes, it does to me. She doesn't seem to get the creative freedom she deserves. I can't find the interviews where she mentions Broke, but here's another quote from before the album release:
'She's calling her new sound "urban rock" ... Rock 'n' roll, she says, has an energy she hopes to tap. "I got my hand tattooed 'rock star' because they give their all and people feel what they're saying," she says. "I don't want to be stuck in that 'urban' category." '
this girl is bomb. dont' hate. haha
I like that! Where did this come from? I THOUGHT I HAD HEARD EVERY THING SHE EVER SANG. To comment on what everybody else is saying, I personally prefer the ballads, but if Fantasia wants to rock, then thats what I want too. I support her with whatever makes her happy. I think she will mix it up for business reasons...with more focus on ballads. She will do whatever sells, but I don't care. I just want Fantasia to be happy. I'll buy whatever she sings.
@excedrin1, how do you know? It was an outtake from her last album. It's two years old!
"Gotta fix it now, c'mon, where my hammers and nails at" i actually really like this song now.
haha me too, i can't find either
@happylarry, who are you talking to?
I've never said this would be released. It's an outtake from her 2nd album.
derekrhodes, how do you know she created the track list? All I know is that in several interviews before the album came out she was talking about her new "urban rock" sound and that Broke was her favorite song. She also mentioned other songs that didn't turn up on the final product. So where did you get your info?
@mykellwells82 - Interesting. What's the name of the group? Did they release it?
this is so nice and if beyonce did it it would've been so much bigga. The music industry aint fair. NO SHIT!!!!!!!!!
i was talking to mykellwells82
Interesting! In one interview Fantasia talked about how she had convinced Midi Mafia to bring in a live drummer, so I still assume this is the original and Nicole Wray is sampling it - so the real version was shelved, the sampled spin-off is released! Or is this based on a sample of an old record as well? Does anyone recognize it?
i think it was a mistake not to put this sony and solo on the CD
I'm confused truthb777. Do you mean Clive D. and 19 had nothing to do with this song not being on the album? Or that they won't have much say in her career "any more" because "Fantasia is moving forward". Do you mean she should or shouldn't do hip hop? BET, MTV and VH1 play lots of other styles besides hip hop. What's your good authority based on? If you know more about where she's heading I'm curious. Let us know.
Broke for #NewAmerikanAnthem #CynthiaMckinney #SistersInWashington
And Kelly Clarkson was lucky and smart to make the move into the Pat Benatar/Joan Jett-type music, as that's not what we would have expected from her Idol performances. But at least she has the brain to do some up-tempo music that showcases her nice tone and allows her to belt it out (except for the misguided 'angry' last album).
And Carrie, she was bland even if technically perfect on the show. Not that she's undeserving, but her success is due in no small part to her honing in on country!
get your facts straight. Nicole recorded "ill take your man" back in 2009. its a bootleg song. nitti beats decided to sell the copy rights to fantasia.
They relate to amy winehouse so why not.
she sampled the beat from Nicole Wray "i'll Take Your Man".. personally i love Nicole's version better.
Too each their own. I just think Nicole's version was better. I like Fanny, though.
Who is Nicole ????
Exactly! They keep her in R&B, just as they tried to fit Kat McPhee into sexy pop (granted, she's a different story). The point is they mess with success. Tasia should be singing up-tempo Tina Turner-type music. Pure rock. Not this sappy, monotonous, forgettable R&B that doesn't even appeal to me when Mary J. Blige (overrated) sings it. Only Alicia Keys sounds good doing so much R&B. But on Tasia it just shows her thin voice when really she has a great tone.
Why wasn't this released?
I agree. Fantasia should've went the Tina Turner route. Her voice is more suited for rock music. It's too edgy and gritty and bold for R&B. I think Clive Davis wanted another Mary J. Blige.
Nicole Wray's version was much better. It's called "I'll Take Your Man." Different lyrics but same beat.
