My 20 year old clivia which had 5 plants has become mouldy which is so sad. I've sprayed it with a natural mould remover. It's an incredible plant. I'm hoping it will recover. Thank you for an informative video. Your location is fabulous.
Sorry to hear that. Just check that it the mould is not a fungal attack. A fungal attack sometime causes mushy leaves near the crown. If it is a fungal attack remove all the mushy leaves and spray the plant and the ground around it with fungicide or Neem spray. With Neem you would have to repeat the application every two weeks until it clears.
Outstanding! THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I’m replanting our orange blossom clivia (embarrassingly, for the 1st time in more than 20 years🤦🏽) houseplant which is now a clump of at least 15 adults “pups”!!!!
Great video.I now have so, so many Clivia plants from just a few given to me maybe 30 years ago by my elderly neighbor who has now passed on. She had grown them from divisions from her mother's garden, so they are very sentimental to me. I think of her every year when they bloom. Luckily, here in san Diego, CA, I have never noticed any pests. I just keep them pot bound in shady locations, occasional water, and they seem happy.
Thank you for this film, I have a clivia - Clivia Miniata which is healthy i blooming regularly. Last year I bought three seedling and one o them is sick and its lives look as you showed. I will try to save this small clivia, following your advice. Thank you and lots greetings!
if it is a seeding it takes time to start blooming as in between it need to go into dormancy before it flowers i.e a cold period then flowers in the warmer weather. Seedlings will take time to get into maturity so be patient.
I usually find that a slow realising fertiliser 3:1:5 works for me as i tend to forget to fertilise. Also check with the garden center and see whether they have liquid fertilisers.
Hey !What’s the plants foods name to watering? Could you telling me that?? If you know about the Spray good for the Leaves? Thank you! I love this Clivia very much! ❤😂
Hi Nan thanks for sharing. Neem oil as it's a natural pesticide. Try 4 tablespoons of neem oil to 4 litres of lukewarm water. Mix and spray in the evening directly on the caterpillar and infected leaves in the evening. Also you can ask your garden center for pesticides that can act on the caterpillars. Enjoy your Clivia
Hi there great video, iam in BC Canada and I have a Clivia which I kept in the cool for the winter ,now I brought it out in March so when will it bloom and how much do I water and fertize
If your plant is in shock try to keep the soil always moist but not soggy. The wilting of the leaves happens when a plant goes into survival mode and directs all the water to its root and not to its leaves. So by keeping the soil moist during this period ensures that the plant doesn't go into survival mode
Kindly ignore the above advice on transplant shock, it had been for another subscriber. With the Clivia now that the dormancy has ended begin to water the plant thoroughly but only when the soil dries out. The flowering will take place from about 6- 12 weeks. Fertilise once a month till fall. They do recommend half dose of 20:20:20 but I would also confirm dosage with your local nursery.
In order to get the mother to root, remove any damaged or rot on the rhizome. Then get a clear container with water and place the mother in the container. What we are trying to do is a water propagation. The clear container helps you monitor the plants progress. Place the container in an area with indirect light and change the water every week, in this way the plant get oxygen from the water. Please keep me posted
Hi Alice! A very beautiful presentation of all the plants! Bravo! Please tell me what soil is good for Clavia (Ph) and what can I fertilize it with? Many kisses from Romania 🇷🇴 and as many posts as possible! Congratulations!
Thank you Pavel. Clivias are sub-tropical plants that grow in forests. They need a soil medium that is well drained and with compost. The compost and mulch provides good aeration in the soil. The medium should support its' natural forest environment. As with fertilisers I normally use a slow releasing fertiliser or a 3.1.5 blend that promotes healthy roots, simulates flowers and growth. Its best also to ask your local nursery what they have on the market. Enjoy your Clivia.
Hi Eric, yes I would suggest, clean the roots and then sit it in water until you get more roots. Place it in clear glass so that you monitor the growth of the plant roots and also to check if the water gets murky. Change the water weekly, as fresh water has oxygen which is vital to the plant. I hope this was helpful. If any problem arises please contact me, am here to assist.
Hi Shakunthala, what is recommended it to use a fertiliser that is 20:20:20 . Also do remember that the Clivia need a dormancy period i.e. a cold period before they start to bloom again.
The information on the dormancy and blooming season was interesting🙏🏾

My clivia had a large pup i separated and now the mother plant lost all its roots. Can I save it and of so how?

Do u grow them outside
Help! My old Clivia has only three roots. Should I try to sit it in water and grow more - or try to replant with just those three????
