The movie speaks about an old man guiding a young man to date old ladies which sounds an interesting topic for a movie and sounds much fun in the movies, people have to learn to see the difference between what is a movie and what you wouldn´t do in reality
You shouldn´t be afraid to try new things,as an actor you play diverse roles and characters,i mean being a transexual,a transvestide, transgender in a movie isn´t really the big deal but Paul Dano you are brave to play those roles it might sound difficult at the beginning if you aren´t familiar with the topic
No, the main character Louis Ives, played by Dano, is not a transgender/transvestite/transexual in the movie (or novel)... He is sexually attracted to trans women, goes every night to Sally's, a bar in nyc (early 90s) where trans women would hang, and in the book he gets caught by Henry right after having sex with a trans woman... he also happens to have a curiosity for fetishistic crossdressing, but he tries it and finds out he doesn't like it, and he never does it again... The book is (semi)autobiographical by Jonathan Ames. You say he plays something he doesn't play... Watch the movie first (and also read the novel this movie is based on, The Extra Man by Jonathan Ames, it's on kindle... Or even better downloqd the Audible which is read by the author himself) before you comment misleading comments...
