Paul Dano is just amazing. Love and Mercy is just an underappreciated masterpiece about the creative process and he gives it so much life.

Also proves the academy is clueless considering he didn't even get a nom

Agree! Love and Mercy deteriorated as soon as Paul Dano ended and the character was taken over by John Cusack. It wasn't possible to empathize with John Cusack whose acting was so wooden.

Couldn’t agree more. One of the best, most vividly realized films of the decade. Can’t believe the director was a first-timer. It’s a shame to see it getting buried through the years, because it’s one of a kind.

So glad to hear that! If that movie came out in the right year it would have definitely been an Oscar contender. The scenes of creating music was magical!

I love that he mentions skipping the "big event". That is what really struck me about the ending of WILDLIFE. As soon as Joe receives a letter in the mail we know what happened. It was so subtle and perfect.

Thanks, will do! And FINALLY saw Little Miss Sunshine the other night, and barely recognized Paul until the end credits came up. What a role - 75% of the movie he has to emote via expression and and body language only. Amazing!

yes, I agree, he is amazing! i really like his eyebrow expressions too, so suggestive! 🙂 and little miss sunshine the best! ❤ most of his movies! unfortunately he is so underrated... 🙁can't wait to see him in The Batman movie! Go for it Paul!

Imagine being a white actor on the set of 'Twelve Years a Slave', surely the temptation would (normally) be to put some sort of 'give' in your characterisation just to make it perfectly clear your distance from the vile character you are portraying
    - with Paul Dano, there was barely even the sense that he was 'acting' there...
Now imagine you are the director/ casting director for the BBC's 'War & Peace' and you are looking for someone to epitomise tender-hearted magnanimity (in the form of Pierre Bezhukov ... and surely after they had watched Paul in 'Twelve Years a Slave....?)
    - and you cast ...
    Paul Dano...
and again, much of his screentime HE DOES NOT EVEN APPEAR TO BE ACTING...
to quote from the man himself above "Holy Shit - I didn't even know that was possible"
What is entirely possible is that this is the best actor you are ever likely to come across.
