Paul Dano is just amazing. Love and Mercy is just an underappreciated masterpiece about the creative process and he gives it so much life.
Also proves the academy is clueless considering he didn't even get a nom
Dando Rees Price Not even Brian Wilson get nominated for Best Original Song.
Agree! Love and Mercy deteriorated as soon as Paul Dano ended and the character was taken over by John Cusack. It wasn't possible to empathize with John Cusack whose acting was so wooden.
Couldn’t agree more. One of the best, most vividly realized films of the decade. Can’t believe the director was a first-timer. It’s a shame to see it getting buried through the years, because it’s one of a kind.
So glad to hear that! If that movie came out in the right year it would have definitely been an Oscar contender. The scenes of creating music was magical!
I love that he mentions skipping the "big event". That is what really struck me about the ending of WILDLIFE. As soon as Joe receives a letter in the mail we know what happened. It was so subtle and perfect.
Wildlife was such a beautiful film, an incredible debut
One of the best and most gifted actor today.
"...that I could be thinking about film through sound, not just soundtrack." THIS is a great observation. So true.
Finally the highly anticipated Criterion video with classic actor Paul Dano.
I could listen to Paul Dano talk about anything, it's fascinating hearing all he has to say.
Paul is certainly a great actor, but didn't know he was a film makers as well. I must check his works out, as I certainly like the roles he's chosen so far.
His directorial debut Wildlife just came out to positive reviews. I haven't seen it yet though.
and he is a great musician also....he had a band called Mook. check out.
he is a multitalented artist and sooo special 🖤
Thanks, will do! And FINALLY saw Little Miss Sunshine the other night, and barely recognized Paul until the end credits came up. What a role - 75% of the movie he has to emote via expression and and body language only. Amazing!
yes, I agree, he is amazing! i really like his eyebrow expressions too, so suggestive! 🙂 and little miss sunshine the best! ❤ most of his movies! unfortunately he is so underrated... 🙁can't wait to see him in The Batman movie! Go for it Paul!
Wow, didn't know he was going to be in that too! That Robert Pattison is really good as well, Gutsy to break out with David Cronenberg and The Lighthouse and all. Looking forward to this new Batman as well with him. :)
Thank you for this great articulate clip about filmmaking and love for film. To Ozu and Bresson I’m very deferential too.
Wildlife deserves to be seen much more. I have heard many things about it. We still don't have the release date in my country but am looking forward to seeing it.
he is so underrated
He will be a great Riddler
Early Summer is so underrated.
The way he talks with his hands is captivating

Classic man, classic actor.
Classic Paul Dano
Absolute classic
A rare sight in nature -- a millennial who gets the enormous difference between film as art and movies as entertainment. Paul Dano is a thoughtful, intelligent talent who will stand the test of time.
CLASSIC
just classic
A classic man, speaking on classic films.
this is why PTA chooses paul.

Like the Coens skipping the protags death in No Country for Old Men.

I’m so glad he doesn’t have a British accent. For some reason he seems like the type to have been British all along and then just drop a hard accent on us. I’m glad we at least have him.
Classic
I think he's the one who got slapped by Daniel day lewis in There will be blood.
I drink your milkshake
*SLUUURRRP*
This is our Riddler
In my humble opinion, Ozu is the greatest director in history, or at least is one of the few elite.
110%
Classic!
its so weird that he is 34. He usually looks so young
He has the fountain of youth
Wonderful!
*Now seriously*
Just give Paul Dano an Oscar already for playing the Riddler.
*Cause, damn!*
😱😵🤩
rip filmstruck
Imagine being a white actor on the set of 'Twelve Years a Slave', surely the temptation would (normally) be to put some sort of 'give' in your characterisation just to make it perfectly clear your distance from the vile character you are portraying
- with Paul Dano, there was barely even the sense that he was 'acting' there...
Now imagine you are the director/ casting director for the BBC's 'War & Peace' and you are looking for someone to epitomise tender-hearted magnanimity (in the form of Pierre Bezhukov ... and surely after they had watched Paul in 'Twelve Years a Slave....?)
- and you cast ...
Paul Dano...
and again, much of his screentime HE DOES NOT EVEN APPEAR TO BE ACTING...
to quote from the man himself above "Holy Shit - I didn't even know that was possible"
What is entirely possible is that this is the best actor you are ever likely to come across.
would love to talk about film with him!!!
good movies
Great interview. Poor sound.
Do a closet picks with paul please
What are you going to do with the FilmStruck original content once the service ends? Post it on RUclips?
He is a Actor
That really was shitty when the interviewer beat up Paul Dano. He seems to get physically assaulted almost every time he's on camera.
2:18 so very true
