  • Alright, Alright The early GR2100 had a problem with the transaxle, so this video covers the first step in rebuilding the transaxle, mainly removing it. This GR2100 has many hours on it and desperately needed a transaxle rebuild kit and some other parts (shown in the video). You can refer to the workshop manual GR2100EC2 as a guide. The next video (Part 2)will show the actual transaxle rebuild.

Great Job and thanks for the video! I have a GR2120 and I didn't need to take the wheel guards, seat and tank off.

That is a ton of work and parts to keep track of. I am sure when you get it done it will be a great tractor once again. Almost makes me dizzy. Thanks for sharing.

Can you please share the part number of that kit. I talked to the dealership and they didn't get what I am talking about.
    Thank you

Wonderful video... very straight forward instructions for such a complex job. Only watched the disassembly (video 1) but I am really looking forward to the rebuild (video 2). I would be taking about 1000 pictures as I go, and I definitely agree with your general approach of replacing nuts/bolts, etc... Otherwise it is akin to trying to put all the dirt back in the whole you dig - fat chance! Spare parts in this case would not be a good thing! Anyway, awesome job.
Btw - my GR2100 transaxle has yet to die but I expect it may at some point. Sad that Kubota chose to skimp on the tranny, used bushings instead of bearings - that's nuts! Strange when you consider how strong the rest of the machine build is, thick metal decks, solid controls, etc... Weird.

It looks like that tractor has had a hard life. How many hours are on it, I wonder.
I change all my fluids and filters at the end of every season and do a good service to everything. No shavings in the transaxle fluid. I read to only use Kubota UDT2 fluid in the tractor and have followed that recommendation. Costs a bit, but that is an expense I can justify, considering the alternative.
The glide steer can be a bit troublesome, but isn't too difficult to adjust.
I laughed when you tried your 14mm ratchet on the bottom of the cover. I went and bought a 14mm ratchet wrench just for that.
Keep the tractor and deck (3 zerks) well lubricated and it will serve you well for many years.
Good to watch how to, if the issue ever arises.

I have a 2120!of this mower and my front wheel drive shaft has quit turning for some reason. I had a look at it and noticed 3 shafts attached to the rear hst unit. One of the three is the all wheel front drive shaft. Any idea why it would just stop working? I verified the front transaxles, not the problem due to the fact, I can spin the shaft by hand, and the front tires will rotate. Thanks and cheers from Louisiana

It might be possible. A tight squeeze but I think so.

There’s a GR2100 for sale with a bad transmission says grinding noise. Asking $3200 for it. You think that’s to high?

That's a tough call. They are excellent when running. Depends on how much you are willing to cover for repairs.

Where did you get the rebuild kit and how much?

The rebuild kit comes from Kubota, around $350 or so. Be sure to have the serial number for the GR2100. Apparently there are different kits and cables between the early and later models. Watch for the next video showing the actual rebuild. Should be tomorrow.
