I'm a visual learner, so the second I unboxed my Aeropress, I hopped onto RUclips and looked for videos. The first one I tried was too much. This video is PERFECT. Thanks so much!
My pleasure 😀
Thank you for specifying that it was 16g of Coffee and 94 degrees C (201F)! I get annoyed when other RUclipsrs leave out such an obvious metric.
As an Aeropress newbie this video was excellent. Instructions were clear, concise and easy to follow. Thank you! 🙏🏻👏🏻
Great to hear!
This is by far one of the best of not THE best video. Its clean editing, speach is perfect, loud, clear, and very direct to the point, and visually everything can be seen, so the point and the host is watcheable. Perfect instructional video. EPIC!
Wow, thank you!
Excellent straight forward video! Thank you
Thank you so much, can't wait to try this method.
I like the ease and filterless convenience of my espresso Italian screw-together coffee maker. Just heat and serve.
oh wow i really think this has made my mind up in purchasing i cannot wait to buy one now and have some clear bench space
Cheers. Nice and simple. I’m loving my aeropress.
Great to hear!
I like the pour over from Stanley no need of paper filters again, and build like a rock!
Just picked up mine...great,clear video. Thank you
Great to hear! Enjoy!
Nice simple routine for beginners! Well done.
Glad you liked it!
Thanks Josh, great video.
No worries!
Love your work Josh !
Thanks Tony!
Jst received my first aeropress. Watched this for a quick run-thru of the how to, (much better visually than reading instructions) Handy, straight forward and helpful.
Thanks mate. 👍🏼🏴👍🏼
You're welcome 👌
Great video , thanks for the instructions .
I just love my Clever filter...
Nice and easy process, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
This actually made it way more explanatory 👍
Thank you !
Measure out 16g coffee. Put it in grinder. For best flavor, Grind medium to fine. Once it's ground, grab cap from aeropress and put filter in it - lock it into place with the long 'aeropress logo'd piece' and place it over to cup. First rinse hot water through paper filter, then ready to start brewing. Press the grounds into the aero press black funnel. Then pour hot water (94c). From this point, shouldn't take more than 2-2.5 minutes to complete the full extraction. Filling it all the way to the top (leaving small gap at the top) give it gentle mix with plastic stir stick. And place the plunger on top. Now wait 1-1.5 min before you start plunging down. Gently push down, Now under its own weight it should start to press down.
you should be a court transcriber
That's what he said
Thanks for this. I know the instructions aren’t hard but this is so easy to follow. I can’t believe the different the AeroPress makes. There’s no going back.
Glad it was helpful!
Great little portable coffee maker perfect for camping.
We agree!
Excellent primer for someone who has never used the Aeropress particularly around water temperature and brewing time. Thank you.
Glad you like it!
Love this product. Makes the best coffee hands down ❤
We agree!
I just got mine two days ago and I love it! I agree that it makes the best coffee!
Wow! Buying one today!
I got tears. Wow for sure I'm getting that. No messy grounds to shake out, rinse off. Cordless for 😃 sure!!
Was told by a kid working at the gas station I go to about the Aeropress, now after watching your video I'm definitely buying one to try it out!
Very cool! You're going to love it 😀
I love aeropress. Great video :)
I always enjoy your informative videos.
I appreciate that thanks!
Nice clear vid - thanks
Glad you liked it!
Well done as with all your videos, Josh. I appreciate your demonstrations. Thank you.
thanks so much Robert! 😀
AeroPress is a truly wonderful coffee maker; such great coffee from such a simple, durable and inexpensive device. I first bought one at Zabar’s, New York, in 2006 - not too long after it came out. I have found that many people who would not consider themselves coffee fans have loved the coffee it produces, and several of my guests have gone on to buy one for themselves.
It’s only really suitable for one or two cups; more than that and it takes too long. But very much worth having in your arsenal of coffee makers.
I must admit that I use far more than 16g of coffee. 😏
You can now get an Aeropress XL that does 4 cups.
Sending a virtual *clink* from Arizona,USA
epic vid bru. think im gonna get one now
i have just ordered my 1st aero press
Got one and some beans from a Cafe I like at the start of the pandemic. Cafe is gone by the aeropress came in handy
My favorite coffee shop closed down during the pandemic too. What a sad, strange time that was.
Thank you 😊
You're welcome 😊
Appreciate it, thanks.
You're welcome!
My partner is coffee mad . Thank you for the clip
Got mine delivered on Friday. My regular coffee machine has now gone into retirement. It’s that good, and cleaning is a breeze. 👍🏻👍🏻
On a daily basis rinsing the rubber stopper and filter cap after pressing cleans the brewer. but you really need to wash with soap or vinegar weekly. Sinceit's an immersion brewer the oils build up on the plastic. You won't really notice it until about 6 mnths to a year.

tkkkkks
Should you be using 94 degC water? The Aeropress manual recommends 80-85 degC for best results. Thanks, a very clear demonstration.
The rest of his instructions don’t align with the actual instructions either.
Nice review! I love my coffee and I may have to give the AeroPress a try. It looks like a good way to make a quick cup of coffee without using electricity. I can heat the water on a wood stove or portable gas stove.
Please do!
Nice one!
Thanks!
now that is just 2 much work i'm very happy using paper filter
Seems just like my normal coffee press tbh. Just a bit geekier.
Once your cup is ready, locate your significant other and give them a gentle agitation for a timed 2 minutes breaking down the brew process
😂😂
Do I need to have an Expresso grind?
@@brionpriest6735 No, you need to have a medium-fine grind, espresso would be too fine
R/whoosh
It tastes awful just water taste not recommended
Amazing
Thanks
toll gemacht, hole ich mir auch
Using this method, while waiting the the minute for it to brew the water/coffee all drains down into the cup so there is very little left to press. If you want to brew the coffee for a minute I think you need to use the inverted method which is well documented on you tube. Otherwise, I like the original instructions that come from Aeropress, you only brew for 10 seconds while gently stirring then press. And you only fill the chamber half full of water. It makes a very strong 4oz or so of coffee which you can then add water for a cup of coffee, or if you want a milk drink add hot milk for a latte. I often add mine to a glass that has ice and about half full of milk to make a great iced latte type of drink.
You need to place the plunger on for the water not to brew through. The plunger suctions to keep the water from draining
@@Greg-rk5ku do you pull the plunger up slightly?
@@Greg-rk5ku if you ll watch closely you would see that the water it s still draining from the aeropress...
@@miurazvanandrei3453 yes, but only slightly. If you left the plunger off it would drain much like a filter would. The vacuum keeps the water in the tube when you seal the plunger, and don’t push too hard when you put it on.
@@miurazvanandrei3453 lol barely. Come on. This is like elementary school science. Ever plugged the top of your straw?
I just got one of these, and the instructions in the box did not mention what to do with the big black plastic hexagonal piece. From this demo, it seems like it was just for helping you pour the ground coffee into the chamber, which seems like a waste of plastic--and backpack space if you're camping. Thanks for solving the mystery, though! I also liked that you pressed all the water through the grounds instead of what my directions said, which is to press just a few ounces through and then pour the rest of the hot water directly into the mug afterwards to dilute it to taste.
100% The funnel actually is meant to be used for brewing in to thermos flasks and other containers with a narrow openings too.!! I hadn't mentioned it here in the video but that's another option 👍 The box instructions are for an espresso style coffee, but I do like a longer style brew too occasionally :)
adding water to the concentrated brew along with temp gives you a smoother cup. Some say it's a weak cup that way but you can either use more coffee, stir more, or use less water to dilute.
Do you get the glass mug with it?
Could you do a video on McDonald’s iced coffee? I really wanna get that taste but I don’t know the ratio. All i know is that they brew 2 packets in one pot. So its lots of coffee for that one coffee pot.
I would highly recommend the Mr. Coffee Ice Coffee Maker. It factors in that more concentrated coffee.
Well, crikey mate!
haha you betchya 👍
when will get flavor of the coffies like when it's hot or we will get flavors when coffee getting cold?
Great vid. Do you know what the difference in quality of the end product is between an aeropress or something like a delonghi dedica? I'm considering buying the latter, but the pricepoint of the aeropress is obviously very alluring.
Apples and Oranges really. The Dedica will make appliance quality Espresso, which is okay.. small 30-50mls shots of coffee you can build on from there to make a latte cap etc... The Aeropress, for most is a brewer where you're making one large Black coffee to drink, no milk. It can, does and was the original recipe that suggest you only make a small 50-100ml strong coffee and dilute it, and this does a great job - but it won't be espresso like, as much as the Dedica is 😀
@@AlternativeBrewing thanks for the swift and detailed response. I ended up placing an order for the aeropress. I'm very much new to good homemade coffee. So I reckon it will be a good place to start and an improvement on my previous, and only, experience with capsule based devices.
Cheers mate.
Saw this on RUclips in a camping vid and thought it was only available in the US so I'd be stoked if I could get it here. One question though, how hard is it to get the filters in Australia? Also, apart from the obvious (and I do hate coffee grounds in my coffee) why do you need to wet the filter first? And could I chop up the only filters I seem to be able to find in Australia (Harris in Coles) into circles and use those? Thanks in advance
This should answer of your questions 😀 Follow the link to our Aeropress page - there's everything you need there! You could chop up filters sure - but 300 of them are only ~$7 bucks so, easier buying them
alternativebrewing.com.au/collections/aeropress-coffee-maker
@@AlternativeBrewing believe it or not l went out and bought it. Love it! And the filters are easy to find 😁
One question.
How is this any different to a normal coffee plunger?
I'm thinking of buying one but I have a perfectly good plunger.
Thanks for sharing
Plunger coffee has a habit of brewing better coffee - 'if' you just leave the brew in the pot and slowly pour it out over a period of time. It also tends to be a little more gritty - as most Press pots use Metal filters - that do let some fine grinds in to the cup. The aeropress is none of that. You press the coffee straight through a metal filter in to your cup below. So the coffee tends to be a lot lot smoother. The Aeropress in general though is a 1-2 cup brewer - whilst press pots range all the way up to 12 cups easily.
@@AlternativeBrewing oh ok. Is the flavour any different though to a plunger. Surely the aeropress doesn't provide an espresso coffee flavour. I'm ok with fine particles of coffee grounds coming into my cup.
Mick
@@michaelnugara1 I moved from hi spec Espro plunger to AeroPress and the AP gives a smoother brew and in my opinion gives a better flavour profile. Better extraction, less waste, easier to clean. My Espro is retired :)
What are the numbers 1,2 and 3 on the side for. I have been adding water to the level No.1. One school of ground coffee. Then adding steamed milk. I didn’t realise you had to wait a minute or so before pressing. Will try again!! I was also pressing down a bit too fast.
The numbers are a great way to continue to brew with consistency. You can thereby use the regular scoop for coffee and fill it to the same line every time to make a similar tasting coffee.
Waiting, or steeping the coffee, allows more flavour to be extracted from the beans. A stir can exacerbate this, and around 2-3 minutes is where you see diminishing results from steeping longer. So in total 2-3 minute complete brew time is a great method to stick to.
Pressing slowly minimises the risk of pressing finer coffee particles through the paper filter.. and tends to make a sweeter cup - than pressing harder. ENJOY!
@@AlternativeBrewing got it! Thanks so much Josh. Enjoyed my coffee this morning here in Tokyo.
What is the best coffee beans to use for aeropress?
This is a tricky one to say - I would certainly be looking for Filter roasted beans for the Aeropress - beyond this. -it really depends on the flavour you prefer - rich chocolate or sweet fruits? On the rare occasions you can find both in one coffee 😀
Ahh, I'm torn between this and the moka pot for camping. Which unit produces better flavour? How much does the stainless filter affect the flavour in the aeropress? Thanks for the good video, keep up the good work!
They work pretty well but they can let some little grounds through and also the paper filters make a less acidic cup because the paper traps some of the unwanted oils, the areo is the way to go, it makes a better cup then most any other method even at home
Both! A Moka Pot will ned the stove for brewing. whereas the Aeropress just needs water - in some cases I've even used cold water ( or even Coconut water haha -) witht he Aeropress and still brewed a decent coffee. So depends on your style of camping and preferred coffee. The Moka Pot will always brew a strong espresso like coffee that you'd add milk or hot water too.. the Aeropress is more like a Filter COffee, and you'll drink this straight - if not adding just a little bit of water to it.. you can brew a moka pot style brew with the Aeropress ,,, but it doesn't really work the same way.. If you prefer Espresso - go the Moka Pot .. maybe the 4 cup size for one person .. six cup for two.. but if you like to experiment than go the Aeropress
@@AlternativeBrewing you do still need a source for hot water.
I like this idea better than the French press. I can't stand grounds ending up in my cup.
In the manual it says fil water to number 1 for one serving and then add water after for americano, ill try this method later
I never understood the manual method. I've tried it many times but when you fill to 1 and then stir the water just drains through the grinds so when you go to press there is no water left and you end up just plunging grinds. This way makes more sense and is a better extraction.
@@TheAboriginal1 Works for me, but my grind is fine, make sure to wet filter too.
Been doing the the manual way, works fine, I will try thismethod too. Have you tried the inverse method, which seems just about like what he showed on video?
Hey Josh, any issues with rinsing the filter after use and reusing, which is what I do?
No I don't see any issues. I'd imagine there comes a point where the integrity of the paper filter is no good anymore - and would have to replace it with a new one - but you may - and i've heard cases of 5x -10x use from one filter 👌
How many clicks did you put the porlex to?
From Zero - I would of done 5-6 clicks. hope this helps :)
With respect, I would also recommend heating the mug by filling it with the hot water, discard it and then press your coffee.
great tip 👌
Just what I want to do when I get up exhausted in the morning ...
@@SpencerCreskey yes of course, I too have the luxury of 8-9 hours of beauty sleep and full clarity in the morning to spend 10 minutes making coffee. Not unlike 80% of the peasant population working 2 jobs or overtime to simply scrape by.
Just use coffee grounds instead then it wouldn’t even take long.
Can you make lattes with this or is this only for black coffees
you can add steamed milk to a strong AeroPress brew no worries, that would taste something like a Latte!
Does not steam the milk, so do not think so.
The official Aeropress manual is sorta lackluster compared to this one, this method feels a lot better.
Is the purpose of that hex shaped cone for putting coffee in it? I have one but I assumed it was an adapter for using with cups smaller than the filter housing will allow.
It's many things 😀 You can use it for both
Would be helpful to mention how to use the numbers on the side.
This is a very good point. TBH I've never really used them though - they could be used to measuring water I guess - or the speed or pressing down - though I don't think many people use all of them often - perhaps just a consistent fill to one number or another as the set place to fill up - and that's it.
How to make a double shot of Bustelos in there?
This isn’t what’s in the instructions, but hey that works too.
why did you not use a RVS filter?
Because it did not come in the box. You can purchase these separately or in a bundle but the intent of the video was to show how easy the aeropress is with all it's won accessories. We'll be bringing out loads more videos on the Aeropress and it's other parts soon
Also, the creator of the Aeropress says you can rinse and reuse the paper filters. He reuses them 50 times. With 350 papers that's 17,500 uses.
Each use can be up to 4 cups of coffee. Just add 4 scoops (approx 60-90g) and fill the water up to the 4 marking on the Aeropress. Once pressed, dilute to 4 cups.
In total, you should be able to make up to 70,000 cups from the included filters.
@@pooounderscoreman whatever...never though it was that big of a deal. not that expensive.
Put the stirrer inside the plunger while you wait. Game changer!
ahhh! nice trick 👌 I'll use that from now on 😀
I dont understand. What tf??
When I press the plunger it squirts coffee grinds and water out the side were paper filter doesn't cover
What differentiates this from a French press?
mainly the paper filter. There's not many French Presses ... if any, that use paper filters. With Paper filter you get a much cleaner cup of coffee - zero grit 👍
You should do upside-down
What is that big plunger looking thing that came with it ??
That's used to press an AeroPress brew in to a smaller canister or drink bottle, that's too thin for the AeeroPress itself to sit on top. Not many people use it this way though.
@@AlternativeBrewing thank you!!
What's the funnel for ?
Place the thin circular end in to a small water bottle or travel tumbler, and the Aeropress will fit on to the Hexagonal top, so you can brew straight in to the top of the container.
Not sure about the weak coffee that starts dribbling through at the start 🤔
Invert it.
confused newbie here. the instructions say only fill water to the number corresponding to scoops but you added 1 scoop and filled to top? shouldn't it be only filled to the number (1).
The instructions are a great way to begin using the Aeropress and make a delicious coffee. One thing that is so appealing about the Aeropress though is there are so many ways you can brew a cup of coffee with it. Yet it is very consistent once you've found a recipe you enjoy.
How do I obtain an aeropress and how much do they cost
Get one from here: alternativebrewing.com.au/products/aerobie-aeropress-coffee-espresso-maker
Gee you move fast Josh, like a Ninja
should of seen me on the bar - when I was a Barista ⚡
Shouldn't the coffee be steaming? One of my problems with these devices is that they lose far too much heat compared to a coffee maker. The taste tends to be smoother though
Yeah I agree - it is not always as hot as straight from a coffee maker - but very consistent in what it brews.
It helps to heat up your cup first.
where in australia is he from? :D
Brissy 👍
how much ml water?
220-240ml 👌
Instructions recommend one scoop of already ground coffee, not one scoop of coffee beans to be then ground. Then add water UP TO 1 on the chamber, not all the way to the top (past 4). At level 1 water, yield is equivalent to espresso in style. Add additional water or milk to 275ml to make American or Latte respectively.
On Internet there is 1,000 recipes & brew variations (eg. add Vodka) including even Russian circus bear balancing Aeropress on head.
What would i have to do differently if i want to make an iced coffee? Thanks ☺️
You could double up on your ground coffee and reduce the water ... than brew this over some ice 👌 The hot brewed coffee will melt the ice and than become chilled.
Or you can check out the PuckPuck attachment - designed for making cold drip coffee for the Aeropress Coffee Maker - alternativebrewing.com.au/product/puckpuck-cold-brew-adapter-for-aeropress/

Thank you
👍
I'm confused... The water went thru the filter really quickly
More Faff than I thought there would be and lots of cleaning up and filter papers to purchase.
There are filter papers included
The instructions say fill to chamber 1
I use a French press.... How is this any better 🤔
It uses a paper filter mainly. Paper Filter makes a cleaner cup of coffee. Cleaner in the cup and cleaner flavour, not so silty or heavy bodied. It makes the coffee much sweeter and brighter than a French Press Cup. Also brews a cup of coffee in half the time and it's portable.
You can put the filter paper and coffee into the bin very easily after brewing, so there is much less clean-up than with a french press.
Big difference, French Press makes more bitter coffee, so does a paper cup filter. Just got the Airo Press and cannot believe how smooth the brew is.
I now realise that the plastic thing I threw away was to store the fitlers. I couldn't figure out what it was for so I threw it away, doh!
Noooo!
Excellent instructional video. Looks cool but plastic and 200 degree water hmmmm.
Thanks for watching!
I wonder why most ALL aero demonstrations show rinsing the filter to avoid paper flavor....
but the aero creator DOES NOT rinse filter????
haha it's just a very barista-nuanced thing to do - it started out from very thick and unbleached paper filters that - if not rinsed you'd be able to taste the flavour of the paper in your coffee - and it has lead through to pretty much every manual brewing method 😂
It's precautionary at the very least and needed in cases where filters do impart flavour
I throw away the water which gets through at the start , before the plunger creates the vacuum, because that did not have time to brew with the coffee
use inverted method
After a minute and a 1/2 ,1/3 of the coffee has already leaked through. This is why I like the inverted method better
