    It's so strange how blindfolding animals makes them calm, while blindfolding humans in the same situation would make them freak out

    • @MadCheshireHat
      @MadCheshireHat 5 лет назад +322

      Yeah. Probably because we rely on our vision so much to tell us things and neglect awareness of other senses, whereas animals are constantly in tune with every sense, so the lack of sight just removes visual stressors and they still have other senses informing them.

    You can build a really easy pond by getting a big black storage tub (the slightly flexible ones not super shiny black ones) 100L+ is better, dig it into the ground so the temperature stays stable. Add dechlorinated water, a pond plant and a few leaves and let sit like you would a fish tank and add fish, they'll stay alive much longer and the kookaburras get do dive into it. My partners parents had 2 set up built into their deck and when the local kookaburras found it they loved it so much and ate all their goldfish hahaha. The plants provide a bit of oxygen but gives the fish shelter so they aren't too easy to catch, you can also get solar water pumps for around $10 on ebay and put that in there.
    Just don't put them under a perch where they can fill it with poop!
    You could also build a strong mesh lid to put over it for when you don't want them to go in there.

    I’m in Brisbane Australia and have a flock of kookies who visit my neighbour every evening at 5pm for a feed of raw mince. Babies go first then the adults and once they leave magpies come and get what’s left. I LOVE their laugh. Much much nicer than the sulphur crested cockatoos that make an absolute racket. I back onto thousands of hectares of forest so we have all sorts of birds throughout the year. All of the beautiful colourful ones like cockatiels, budgies, lorikeets etc come and sit in the garden👌 One of the cutest I’ve seen is the tawny frog mouth. Incredibly well camouflaged and hard to spot against the tree they’re perched in 👌
    Looks like you are going to enjoy these two. I hope they get along and end up ‘committing’ to one another 🤞👍

    As someone from Eastern Europe, where the Baba Yaga myth originated, I wanted to note that Baba Yaga is pronounced bah-bah yah-gah, not yay-gah. Whether or not you want to pronounce it the "proper" way is all you. Just thought I'd let you know.

    Australia here! Kookaburras breed in a family group. I live with them all around me. Family groups here are usually around 7 birds, and consist of Mum and Dad and the older siblings who stick around for 3 or 4 years. They all help brood the eggs and around 3 chicks hatch. Within a few days only the strongest chick or two is left, as they fight it out and only the strongest ones survive. Then they all help raise that new young one.

    I live here in Australia and we have 2 main species of kookaburra. Baba kook is a blue winged kookaburra and Baba yaga is a common kookaburra. I would highly recommend looking into the different species. I'm not sure if you will be able to breed the because of that reason. ❤❤

    Would you be open to doing a more in depth video on being an animal educator? I know you did one in the past but it didn’t have much information on the career itself or how exactly the “agencies” work. I’m currently researching different careers and there isn’t much online about animal education as a career and I would love to learn more
