If your cats are aces that have their shit together it's totally possible. In the 50s the Big Bands would get entire album sides down with Vocalists in 3 hours. The most time consuming part of the process is setting up all the mics for the sections beforehand so they're hot as soon as the players take their seats. This is where assistant engineers come in. I counted 27 channels of microphone inputs at unity gain on Bruce Botnick's recording desk.
Wow... some pretty harsh criticism here. This is a University band. A very good college band but remember, this is a learning environment. In a learning environment you are encouraged to stretch, make mistakes and play without the harsh lens of professional criticism. That comes later. Perhaps if a couple of the critics here could post a couple of the recordings of their College big band we could compare abilities. Until then, please keep your criticism positive.

@@hibrassmann yes I thought afterwards perhaps. And that’s a great quote!
Great footage, however, they didn't really give any tips on how to record a big band.
a) have great players that learned their parts b) see "a" Dwight Fontenot
@@MarkTarmannPianoCheck_it_out If the players are truly great,
they'll be able to sight-read the parts as if they wrote them.
0:43 I got a hot date. And Mintzer just ignores him. Lmao.
