I used to live in St Albans way back in the 1960s residing at 319 Hatfield Road and attending Beaumont Secondary School... A beautiful town which holds many fond memories for me...

Many memories come back to me through these pictures . I was born in St Albans and lived there for many years including the war.
Knew the Abbey very well, and Orlando the resident ginger cat . Wonderful pictures of " how it used to be "

Thank you for producing and uploading this, Mr. Lawrence. Nice to see that at least some of the historic scenery is still there. For many years as a kid in the 1970ies I spent practically all my school holidays in St. Albans with my aunt at her house in Hatfield Road. St. Albans is a great place and to this day it is my favourite city in England. As of course children were not allowed in she smuggled me into the "Olde Fighting Cocks" pub with the open fireplace (we only had a boring gas fire at home...) And I remember a really traditional English wedding at St. Michael's Church, with the spectacular highlight of an old Rolls Royce at the gate. And how I sucked in the solemn atmosphere at the Cathedral during Evensong. My favourite pal in those days was the gingerhaired "Cathedral Tomcat" called "Orlando" that had made the cathedral his home. Complete with a little name tag "Orlando - St. Albans Cathedral" around his neck he strolled around the Cathedral during services. It was indeed a happy time - with the one drop of bitterness: when I was 11 I could not persuade my aunt to take me to the wrestling match featuring "Mr . TV" Jackie Pallo. She took me to a Charlie Chaplin film instead. Never forgave her for that...
