Thanks for doing this Video man. Jean is my Mom, and she deserves all of this praise and more. Really appreciate you spreading the word, I’m going to send her this video!!
What'd she think?
Land 'O Goshen!
Let off by Dresser's, half-past-midnight... throwing stones at the bats flying around the streetlight.
I love ya Mams bass playing!
I've still got the first album. Say hi to your mum, from a fellow bass player.
Jean and June are rock and roll pioneers, incandescent with talent, yet friendly, down to Earth people.Thank you,Danny, for giving them their due.
Danny and Fanny, two of my favs together.
Fanny! The guitarist and bassist were Filipina sisters whose family immigrated to the U.S. They were incredible!
I saw Fanny headline at Sussex University with two other bands in the early 70's they were fantastic! Can't remember the name of the second band on the bill but the opening act was Leo Sayer in his blues band before he became famous and he was outstandingly good!
Fanny's live version of the Beatles' Hey Bulldog rocks! They even added a whole new verse of their own.
Which the boys loved and approved of!
Good on her for hitting the stage after something serious as a paralytic stroke. That takes GOOTS. But that band's synergy just can't be achieved without everyone present, like Hanson or the Bee-Gees.
Truth! Alice
Well now I have to do a deep dive on Fanny
Always a good idea!
Might have to enable Safe Search...
Their cover of Hey Bulldog is legendary
I love that version!
The whole album is great.
Love that song and always thought it would be great being more heavy, will deffo check it.
Thank you for acknowledging this great band, Danny.
I found out about Fanny about a year ago, thanks to a documentary on PBS. I was blown away by the musicianship of all four of them, but I was especially impressed by Jean and Alice de Buhr, their drummer. I was also really annoyed that I didn't know about them when I was growing up. They were pretty successful in their day and it's a crime that their music was forgotten for so long. But I'm glad they're starting to get some recognition again.
Nothing better than a good bit of Fanny.
I kinda prefer this style of video over shorts ngl
MAKE MORE OF THESE DANNY
My favorite song by Fanny is "Blind Alley", sung mainly by keyboard player Nickey Barclay. I've run across both the studio version and a Beat Club live version here on RUclips. David Bowie was a big fan of theirs.
Blind Alley stands up really well musically, lyrically, and the Beat Club version in terms of performance very well in terms of classic rock of the period. It should be much better known, IMHO, and something a good classic rock covers band could do. Sadly, too few people would recognise it.
I've been a fan of Fanny since 1978 when my father introduced me to them. I was 8, and I've liked them ever since. Nice to see someone notice them. There's a documentary on the band. You can find it on RUclips.
My dad always told me to stay away from fanny..
Oh yeah!! Discovered Fanny a few months ago, and my God they were good!! The version of Badge they did was fantastic.
That was one of my favorite songs to play...HUGE fun!! Alice
@@alicedebuhr6457 Hi ! 👋 anybody that can sing four part harmony whilst drumming gets my vote!
David Bowie was a big fan and tried to pull strings to get them more exposure, but they faced a lot of resistance from executives because they were women, plus LGBTQ+ bigotry. I see Alice is here so can probably confirm or deny what I'm saying.
The pianist did see some success with session work as well as some solo material. IIRC, she now lives in the UK. I'd have paid good money to see her in a band with some other USA ex-pats like Suzi Quattro.
Some of the Fanny self-penned material was excellent and it surprises me that it's not well known in classic rock circles. It's never too late to promote it.
When a friend's daughter started playing in a rock band I sent some Fanny albums as inspiration to show that anything is possible for a young woman starting out in rock. Or, given how it works, I paid the money and Alice de Buhr sent them. Thanks for that!
Pretty awesome there. That's all you can say for this video 🤘🤘🤘 Fanny should've gotten the recognition DECADES ago. I'd never even heard of them until 2021, and that's crap to me. I'd probably heard them in the seventies, but didn't have a clue. This video will get them some much-needed attention, trust me.
I love your channel so much! Also love that bands like Fanny are being rediscovered and getting new fans over the past years ❤
Absolutely tremendous band. Good shout, Danny.
Great fills! Love Fanny!
I found some videos of Fanny a few years ago here on RUclips and spent a while trying to track down all the videos I could have them. They are great!
Really cool to see Fanny get mentioned! The studio stuff is great but the beat-club footage is just next level.
What an underrated bass player and singer!! 😄👍
There is this live album "At the Beat Club '71 '72" I liked a lot! Thank you so much for reminding me. Now I hear it again. 😊
Saw Fanny backing up Jethro Tull at the Oxford Theater 1975.
I forgot how amazing Fanny was 🔥🔥🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I saw Fanny headline at Essex University in the early 70's and they were fantastic! At the time, I thought they were the best band I had ever seen. 50+ years and many thousands of gigs later, they are still one of the very best.
I also love Fanny
Fanny are fucking brilliant. They've become one of my favourite bands since seeing a preview of the BBC film about them.
And I urge everyone with access to iPlayer to watch the film
Nicky Barclay (Piano/Organ) is a fantastic musician and went on to work with Joe Cocker and Barbara Streisand.
I love Fanny Not heard them for a while!
Awesome recommendation! Thank you, Mr. long-form-short-form-pioneer-guy, I'll be sure to check it out!
Fanny !! 💓
I love Fanny. What a great band. Check out "A Place In The Country"
You went there! 😂 I've been considering doing on a feature on these girls! Awesome video pal 🤟
Danny good on ya mate for bringing back to the fore these monumentus rockers. One of the true unsung Rock and Roll legends. Bless them.
Fanny are so underrated. Alice de Buhr is on RUclips and replied to my comment on one of the Fanny vids a few years back. That was pretty rad.
I love fanny!
the band.. right?../j
@@sapphicquartz One would hope.....It's amazing how little men's brains have grown in the last 50 years. Alice
Of course. 😁👍
Fanny's version of the Beatles' Hey Bulldog is one of the best covers out there.
You are quite entertaining , Sanny Dapko !
You nailed it, that beat club footage is the shit! (And jean has been my time warp crush every since I saw that cover of Marvin Gaye!)
Thanks for giving these First Ladies of rock and roll their props ( check out who they toured with…June credits Lowell George with teaching her slide)
Fanny Hill is one of my fave albums, cheers for putting the spotlight on them
Theres a documentary about them on iPlayer
Cheers lad ❤
Thanks for the hot tip, Danny!
Thank you for this video!
I've loved Fanny for decades, back when they were still recording actually, especially their keyboardist.
The world was not ready for Fanny back then. It's about time they get the attention and praise they so rightly deserve.
Big fan of Fanny. They were CRIMINALLY underrated(probably 'cause they couldn't write their names in the snow, if ya know what I mean) because they were as good as most of the bands they played in tours with. I'm glad Jean is doing better.
I sick today but never miss a Danny spako video!
Get well soon, man.Danny Spako rules!🤘😁
@@paulie6446 thanks bro
When you said “Jean Millington” I KNEW this was about the band Fanny. Already a favorite of mine since I saw them on analog TV 📺 back in the 1970s. 😎🎸🇺🇸
Thanks for introducing me to my new favourite band!
Saw them 71 72ish in St. Louis Mike Quatro and Fanny. At the end of Fanny's set they brought out Suzy Q and They did a set of kind of Sun Rockabilly madness at very high volume
And there was me fantasising about such a scenario and it actually happened!
Oh yeah, these guys are great! I have to admit, I didn't know any of their names, but I've liked their music for years.
Absolutely amazing band!! Protoprog you might say.
I never heard then when they were performing. Found them on RUclips about ten years ago. They were great!
I first became aware of Fanny when I bought a Warner Bros sampler in 1971. Track was Blind Alley. They play it on the same German show as this track. What might have been.
Discovered them a few years ago thanks to youtube. Don't know how I missed them back in the day.
Fanny one of my fav bands for the past 20 yrs, all great players and the music is just pure soul moving rock and roll. Nice video👍
Awesome post - and a band/bassist I'd NEVER heard of!
I bought Fanny's first album when it came out. One of the best rock bands ever!
Awesome band, everyone of them a powerful musician in their own right. Alice De Buhr is one of my favourite rock drummers
I knew before I clicked the link it was going to be Jean, and Fanny.
What an amazing band! They should have been absolutely massive.
Fanny was the greatest. I first heard them at a friend of mines house. My friends Dad had a ton of albums and he introduced me to Fanny in 1981. I was 9 years old at the time!!!! Been a fan ever since!!!!! Hell I still have their first album on 8 track because I had one of those players on my system!!!!!!!!!
Fanny were brilliant! And Ain't That Peculiar is my favourite track they covered
I love Fanny, theyre so great, I wish they were a bit more known!!!
So sick to see a video about Fanny! Epic party music.
Well done my friend! Yes Fanny deserves more accolades.
Very familiar with Fanny and Jean, one of the greatest rock bands of the 70's that never got their due. If you don't know Fanny check them out now!
Sir Danny of Sapko, you did something wonderful here... thank you!
June and Jean Millington have their own RUclips channels - show them some 💕 love!!!!❤❤❤
Awesome spotlight on Jean Millington! 🇵🇭
Interesting perspective, got me thinking!
Ok robot
Thanks! ✌️🎻😎😎
Check out their live cover of He Bulldog. Damn!
Oh yes, I have! And I'm only in my early 50's! 😄
Fanny were a fantastic band!
Saw them in the ‘70’s!!
Oh wow--Fanny! Thsnk you Danny for giving them (Deserved...) props! 🎀
Their version of "Badge" is the only version I can listen to.
I know it's a little risqué across the Atlantic from the U.S, but Fanny was a phenomenal act 🤘
They did a killer cover of The Beatles' "Hey Bulldog" 🎶
💥BOOMERS💥 saw Fanny on The Mike Douglas Show when they started!
Love Fanny!
Agree with everything you said!
CC
Fender did some signature guitar and bass relics for them. The Fanny battered range.
Fanny!! 👏👏
Ok, this is right up my street.
Watch the fantastic documentary of the band “Fanny: The Right to Rock”. Highly recommended 🤘😎🤙
Among my fave you-never-heard-of bassists, Jane Crockford of The Mo-dettes
Just got my “BEHS” sticker in the mail. Beautiful!
Re. the word 'fanny' referring to one's backside: Almost _never_ used in the 21st century; my old WWII vet dad used to use it occasionally.
Fanny are genuinely one of the greatest bands of their era, and could hold their own against anybody.
June is still playing guitar now and is still brilliant.
Day 1 of asking for focus on bassist Tommy Cogbill-played on Chain Of Fools, Memphis Soul Stew, and Son Of A Preacher Man!
Great tip Danny, I love Fanny
Fanny is amazing.
New Count Day #235 of BEHgging for Necrobutcher's BEHS tone
people are lying if they said they thought #2 was the real bass
Great bass player, great band.
Crazy that this band flew under the radar.
I made a trip to the music store named for them.
Danny have you listened to the behs playing on the Grease track your the one that I want ? Is it a pick being used ????? 👍🏻🏴
