Gazoo Racing Supra is underrated on power, but I find it hard to believe it is so dialed in that it can overcome a 100hp+ deficit in power to an excellent launching C8 Corvette
That's because it has about 440 bhp, like the M340i. But its real disadvantage is the auto compared to the DCT in the Vette. The DCT shifts much quicker.
I'm a Corvette guy, but the dealer mark up is incredibly stupid. Also, if you like to modify and tune your car, the Supra is much more tuner friendly. Chevy had been a real dink with their locked hardware. Hopefully it gets cracked soon.
i couldnt agree more with you,if you want a daily-laugh well call a dealer and ask the markup amt i was quoted $20,000 true-story,i thanked them for making me really laugh outloud and respectfully hung up;one can buy an avrg daily driver for the amt of the markup cost(give or take a grand or 2 maybe)but my point u can buy a new-daily for the markup, and purchase another sports car like the supra.mx-5,and so on and have a new daily as well by comparrison.Nissan has a car/model in that range(brand new mind you) i cant recall the model, and im glad because i dont like to pick on a certain car/make/model when comparing to ANY sports car.
Ive seen it in a few comments thus far but I wanted to reiterate that the Supra b58 with 300 dollar downpipe, 500 dollar tune on e30-e40 will be making 480-500 whp. Add in a 3K upgraded turbo and now we are at the 600-700ish whp. You can find many videos showing similar supra setups demolishing some very fast competition including super cars.
I just pick my 2022 supra for 56k,try finding a c8 for less than 80k. Supra or BMW for the haters is a lot easier to make great power with just a dp,tune and couple gallons of e85,watch the video and u can see that supra was catching up quick and the power on the b58 is well underrated. So I went with the supra and save me some 25k for some serious mods🙂
I just placed the order total 57k and I agree it's a lot better value than the corvette. Besides the superior launch on the C8 the Supra was keeping up easy. Can't wait to get mine
Sam, as the old adage goes “The Vette gets them wet!” and after driving the C8 I can fully agree. Each will have their own fan base and reasons why to purchase, but that Vette packs a punch for the money that nothing else quite measures up. Great video as always.
@@cdrkimball that's what every fan boy says, until you look st the facts and realize that, you're spending way more money just to get it to GO AS FAST as the corvette, but it doesn't have the same status, it's not as sexy, and you're literally wasting money just to catch up to a better car, you could buy the corvette c8 cheaper than you could buy and upgrade the GTR, the ONLY reason people get the GTR, is to be the typical fuck-boi who thinks he's cool and fast until he's smashed by an actual MAN who understands cars and hoe to drive, sit down and hush yourself bucko
I was split between these two cars and ultimately went with the Supra. The main reason was the price - I was actually able to find a new 3.0L Premium Supra for MSRP whereas literally every Chevy dealer has at least a 15k markup on every single C8 configuration available, and even ordering one was still marked up, or a 2+ year wait. My thought is maybe years from now when the C8 comes back down to earth pricing wise I'll revisit the idea of getting one, but with the ridiculous pricing on it currently (85k or more for a base model) it's just crazy. Additionally, while not a huge deal, the fuel economy on the Supra is actually pretty good with the inline 6 vs the massive V8 in the vette.

Since you are a great viewer and I notice your comments a lot. Here’s what happened, I had this car for 3 days from Chevy Canada. All 3 damn days it was raining heavily, we managed to get one day, that Tuesday, rain stopped day time, we got the track, we did 3 test runs like I usually do, then as we started recording the first full run we noticed small rain drops, you can actually see the path. Then we did the first run with cameras, we decided to do this full run, the one u see. Then we wanted to do a roll. Rain started pretty bad, as we were packing up, it stopped but it was too dark. Honestly surprised how well the Supra kept up. The Vette only best it by a car or so. Yeah he Supra is like 300 pounds lighter, however the Vette has way more HP and torque. I personally love the look of the new Supra, just wish it was stick and I'd try to grab one up. Never been a Chevy guy either, however this is one of their nicer trims, granted it looks more Ferrari than Corvette. Maybe that's why I like it.
Do you actually believe the hp/tq rating Toyota/Bmw gives? That power is accurate if you read it as wheel tq and wheel hp. The corvette rating is at the crank, the Supra is also said it be at the crank, but dyno tests have shown that that power is actually at the wheels, so no surprise there. And the Vette will walk it at any speed, it just looked like it was keeping up for a second or two because that is the nature of the powerband and the camera angle. That said, the Supra is definitely quite a quick car.
@@PapiAndrey , said all that for nothing. It's obviously a faster car....just surprised me was all. Corvettes performance is outrageous but the so is the Supra’s. Vette is faster but the sound doesn’t match the visual IMO. Subjective I know. Also subjectively, the Supra looks better. I would still buy the corvette c8 between these two though. I would go 2022 M3 before either personally.

Corvette is so much more car for the money. Also reliability will be an issue with the Toyota. Not a toyota fan at all (got a 97 trans am in my garage for 15 years now) but as a car enthusiast , I think toyota made a mistake by joining forces with bmw. lol what? is this a troll? The B58 has been one of BMW's best engines and, spoiler alert, it was co-developed with Toyota in 2014. C8 is the better stock car hands down, but also a $20k surplus on cost. the Supra with a downpipe and tune for ~2-3k will stay with a C8 easily.

There’s already a video of them racing on the 8th of a mile, Supra won by half a car. The corvette has to be perfect at the launch to beat the Supra, if it sleep for just a half second the Supra wins. Supra claims 382hp but the Dyno showed 450 to the crank, 388whp. This will be a closer race than most think. I say Vette wins by one car if it launches perfect. Stock C8 quarter mile time 11.4 seconds, stock 21 Supra 12.1 seconds.
@Catholic Firefighter My point is that The Supra is much more competitive than people think mainly because Supra underrated it’s power. The car pushes 388whp 450 crank, not 382 base as advertised. I own a 21 Supra and have raced C8 from a rolling start and hang hang right next to them the whole way never loosing power. A90 Supras are much faster than what people think.
Tit for tat. C8 is the better car stock for stock but if the debate is this for that, add a FuelTech ECU and an ETS Twins Kit and that BMW Zupra would be a non factor. MK4s are the REAL Supras and the 2JZ is legendary. Those duck snort farts the bmw engine makes on shift sounds horrible. Lol.
@@refillz5281 Sure kid. "Dog walk" is a teenager term. You put an equal amount of cash in either one, and the Vette will win every single time. There is something called balance, and although you are young your feeble mind may not grasp that concept. Your bmw my fangirl friend is a Front engine Rear wheel drive car with a small inline 6 cylinder engine. Its good to a limit. However that limit will always be exceeded by the C8 with its incredible Mid engine and Rear wheel drive design with a big V8 all still in a very lightweight package. You can root as hard as you want and think in your mind what you want to believe, but the fact of the matter is the new Zupra cant touch a properly built Vette on any surface, and most importantly falls short of its predecessor the MK4 and its amazingly slick 2JZ-GTE engine. Im not a biased fangirl, im a Datsun guy and a Honda purist at heart. So I have no attachment to either. Was going to get a corvette, msrp of one I was looking at was 57,000. This dealer was selling a used one for 120k. These people are out of their minds. Even more so, the tools who buy them at that insane markup.
I would love to see a supra with the basic mods package that many say is only $3000 (intake, exhaust and tune), which will get you up to around 480 hp vs the corvette. The supra is ready for so much more power with very little money.
No need for intake or exhaust but not bad to have. Generally the go-to setup for the Supra would be Downpipe+Tune for 80-100 HP bump from stock. Which is around $2000. That gets you to about 440 WHP and SERIOUSLY wakes up the car. Night and day difference. However you almost certainly need wider tires in the rear to make use of all that torque on such a light platform.
I've been waiting for this! Personally, I really like the C8 and I'm not a Vette fan at all.. That being said, I would never pay the markup that they are selling for currently. They average about $120k new here and although it's 500hp and mid engine, it just isn't worth that much. At the end of the day, the build quality and materials is still a Chevy.. and Chevy priced it what it's at for a reason. Still an awesome sports car tho. Best Vette yet imo although you can build some massive power out of the C6 & C7. This is just a better overall package than those.
Its totally worth what dealers ask for or they wouldnt sell them. In my area, they sell them at 140k and they cant keep up for the demand. Many people say they are just as good as a McLaren and the same quality level too. Just more reliable than a McLaren. Also, Chevy priced it at 70k because they have a big leverage in the industry. Ford would sell it almost 150k if they made that same exact car because theyre not worth 1/2 of what GM is for example. Tadge Juechter himself answered that question pretty well(he’s the chief engineer of the last 3 vettes). Very smart guy.
@@RBZ06LT6 man, they're nice but they're only selling for $140k bc people are hyped for them, not bc they're worth that. Chevy priced them at $60k bc that's exactly what the amount of materials with added profit cost for them. The materials, engineering, and performance that went into these is not McLaren level man come on now... just bc it has a super car design doesn't make it a super car. It's still only 500hp ( ik that sounds ridiculous haha ) but that's the truth. I mean, something is worth what people will pay for them but the only reason these are breaking over $100k is bc of the dealer markup, and that's fully at the dealers discretion and the reason why these are trading hands at what they're costing. The ZR1 model? I'd pay $100k for that, it'll have 800hp and I'm not disagreeing that these aren't nice! 800hp with this design yes I'd pay that for it. But not a base for $120k no way man it's just not worth it. Same things happened with the Type R and Focus RS, dealers marked them up $15k-20k and bam people were paying $50k for a Focus or Civic, when the manufacturers priced them at $35k bc that's what they're worth. I love these C8s but as Bob Barker would say the price ain't right haha

@@nighthawk0077 yes clearly. And you can easily get it for $10,000 more than the Supra. It's just most people are too impatient to search around to a car dealer that charges MSRP
We have the Supra and the C8 in our exotic car fleet. I must say for me, the Supra is a more fun car to drive. Ppl say that sounds crazy but with the Supra, you get instant torque and pulls away immediately and handles likes a dream. The C8 once after taking off, felt slow and didn’t pull away aggressively anymore even with the pedal to the metal. For me, I would pick the Supra for a daily car. The C8 draws a lot of attention and looks sexy as hell.
I heard from a lot testers that it's faster not using the paddle shifters. The automatic transmissions are way faster than the human hand. Paddle shifters are fun, but if you want to win, let the transmission do the work...
All they did was recycle old Technologies and put it together and make it look new. GM completely redesigned everything from scratch with help from nobody. Other than Tremec and Pratt & Whitney. And the new c8r regularly wipes the floor with BMW for the past two years in real life racing called IMSA. That's where you see the true potential of its platform not some roll race

The vette is faster stock but with a few mods the supra can be a beast.. theirs not much you can do really to make the Vette faster. Even heads and exhaust don’t make much of a difference, there a place that has unlocked the ECU on the vette and they say it pretty much tapped out. The supra downpipe, e50/e85, exhaust you can make tons of power
Two things I heard in this review that I never heard about the C8 from any other reviewer: 1. It is a tight fit for tall people 2. It's not a good daily driver. In fact, I have only heard the C8 praised for these two things. Maybe it being a convertible is making it a tighter fit? With the MagneRide suspension, the C8 is supposed to be an excellent car for daily driving with a near luxury car feel. And it certainly is just as practical as the Supra. Again, maybe that is an issue with the convertible option.

One of fav parts for upgrading C8 is Victor racing wing.
The BMW jokes aren’t even funny at this point.

Getting so old saying that 😒
I was split between these two cars and ultimately went with the Supra.

Facts. The B58 is highly capable, a tune and some downpipes and you're pushing 450hp to the wheels easily.
Downpipes, fuel injectors, E85 and tune make these Supras eat almost anything on the road

That’s true my 2021 Supra 1/4 mile is 12.1 but I’ve seen other Supra’s running 11.8 stock .

Lol.

@L W You dont need 20k for the supra. Less than 10k and it'll dogwalk that C8 for half the price 😂😂😂
I just know from years of real world experience, on paper alone the C8 is light years ahead of an ugly fat backed coupe with a bastardized BMW engine that duck snort farts on every shift lol.

Was going to get a corvette, msrp of one I was looking at was 57,000. This dealer was selling a used one for 120k. These people are out of their minds. Even more so, the tools who buy them at that insane markup.
Agreed!
Surprising I thought the Vette was going to smoke the supra but that wasn't true. It was actually pretty close. I also think the supra looks sportier.

So is it worth it or no 😂
Its totally worth what dealers ask for or they wouldnt sell them.
I genuinely think that on paper a corvette is the best car you can buy 😂😂
Agreed
supra looks so good
I hope you get 4 million subscribers plus 4 million more.
Thank you :)
The problem is here in the NE USA the c8 is selling for 113k and the supra is between 45-60k.
Im not sure about the convertible, but the C8 coupe is fine for tall people. I’m 6’2” and drove the C8 around a track at speed las vegas. The car is great. I think the ability to daily the car is up to the buyer.
chevys aren’t reliable can’t use as a daily
@@robl9567 If it is anything like the C7 it will become reasonably reliable a few years into production. Admittedly, the C8 is currently experiencing some growing pains. "Despite the bent wheels, the Grand Sport made a 180-degree turn from the 2014 long-termer with regard to reliability. It suffered not a single unscheduled stop, failure to crank, or Uber request required to bail us out. We didn't even have to add a single quart of oil. It was a sterling test of reliability-and, evidently, our proficiency at finding potholes." --Car & Driver 2018
This guy is obviously biased ASF
The only sports car I would daily drive is a Toyota, but it's not the Supra, it's the LC500
That's a good 60-70k more that u might aswell get a used RC by that point.
@@carboydorifutoparty3976 What? The Supra is 70K and the LC500 is 100k here in Canada. Worth the extra in my opinion!
@@onilovni1234 oh then the mk5 is like 20k cheaper in the US than it is in Canada while the LC is like 90-120k(dealers love absurdly marking LC's up)in US dealers.

Love❤️ your videos I don't know how this one got past me?😆I'm a little late,😬
Wait until you guys get your hands on the Z06. I've actually spent a little bit of time with one and it is absolutely mind bending
Love your content... Have you ever driven the LS7 Z06 corvette? 505 HP @ 3100 lbs? Would love to see it against some of the other RWD platforms you've tested/raced.
I have
That Corvette looks Gorgeous. I'd love to buy Corvette
I honestly thought the Corvette was going to walk that Supra, but that Supra hung out very well.. Surprised..
What video did you watch? The Corvette had car and half on it in the first 100ft.
I prefer the Corvette by a huge margin, but that Supra is still impressive.
