  • This wonderful meal-in-one dish is a great way to make the most of ground beef. Each bite give meat, vegetables and potato - and old fashioned recipe that's still wonderful today. A great alternative to a meatloaf, add a salad and dinner rolls and you've got a wonderful meal!

Hi there! It's been awhile hasn't it? When my Stepmom was dating my Dad, she made this lovely dish (it was one of the first things she made for us) for us. Hers is a little bit different, but it's also lovely. Thanks for bringing back that memory!

The original hamburger pie was made with bisquick baking mix. You made the filling then spooned the wet bisquick over the top then baked it. My mom made it all the time. It was on the side of the bisquick box many years ago as one of their feature recipes. When you use potatoes and beef it's a cottage pie. When you use lamb it's a shepards pie.................thanks for posting, looks great.

Hi guys! This recipe is also known as "Cottage Pie." Shepherd's pie is traditionally made with lamb; the cottage pie with other kinds of ground meats. Either way, they are delicious!

Switch the canned mix and the vegetable mix to a cream of mushroom it in with some green beans. Saute for a few mins with a 1/4 cup of milk. Layer meat bottom, then green beans with cream of mushroom mixture next, then just spread the mashed potatoes on top of that, and spread some shredded cheese. Any kind works. 😁 400 degrees for 30 mins. Ohh lala. Such a delicious hamburger pie.
I will try this guys next. It's gonna be a whole different flavor of pie though. But looks good. 😉

The dance Ralph referred to as the Mashed Potato is done to the song "The Mashed Potato" by Dee Dee Sharp. You need a hand masher to make the dance work, an electric mixer or Kitchen Aid just won't do! Sam Cooke (no pun intended--well, maybe) also referred to "don't forget those Mashed Potatoes" referring to the dance in his hit "Having a Party". Great Job Guys!

Hi Kevin and welcome back Ralph. It's nice to see Mary Ann once in a while but there's nothing like the Kevin and Ralph team. :-)
This shepherds pie brings back so many memories for me. Coming home on a cold winters day and smelling that delicious shepherds pie baking in the oven. The smell alone is capable of turning this old man into a child again.

I LOVE THAT STOVE, I haven't seen one like that in decades & about that wall telephone, We had one when I was a kid & haven't seen one since HOWEVER lol I am buying the table top version in a month from now, I really hate my cell phone.
Anyway, I love shepherd's Pie but only if you leave out the corn, I HATE corn cause it doesn't digest, in its place I would likely put fresh green beans into it instead as Green beans are one of many vegetables that actually rebuild stems cells.
Just to switch things up a bit keeping in mind the reason I substitute most traditional ingredients in items like this is to avoid excessive bad carbs but also Night shade foods as these cause a great deal of Inflammation for me, so a little switcheroo & I am good. For this, I would use whipped White sweet potatoes or Purple ones because sweet potatoes NOT TO CONFUSE THESE with regular potatoes which are not classified as a nightshade. Once I cooked & whip them, I add the green part of Scallions x 3 to give it a slight onion taste then brush a Home made pesto sauce using walnuts instead of Pine nuts as I don't like pine nuts or some garlic butter & bake till crispy on the edges.
I typically use a manual masher like my parents did, but in this case they really need to be whipped & light so its easy to spread over the meat mixture.
Surprising you used Herd de Provence, not a typical herb blend I hear about these days. I have this also & what makes it special is the Lavender they put in it.
I loved the video, cant wait for the next one. :)
