Exploring North Macedonia 🇲🇰 | Hiking with Bears and Exploring Historic Cities

North Macedonia is a relatively unknown country for tourists, but it has been one of my favourite countries in the Balkans to visit. Friendly people, amazing scenery, wild nature and some of the oldest cities in Europe. I start my journey by catching the bus from Pristina, Kosovo to Ohrid via Skopje. I spend three nights in Ohrid - the first day I explore the city and visit the famous monastery above the lake and the second day I go hiking in Galacica National Park. I encounter three brown bears in the wild, a few snakes, wasps and stinging nettle. From Ohrid, I catch the bus to Bitola and spend a night there before catching the bus back to Skopje where I spend the afternoon looking around the city.

What an adventurous day out, nothing like adding abit of stress to your leisurely stroll up the hill😮 The first city you were in was a linesman dream...so many overhead powerlines, bags not fly a kite! Another great video JP, keep em coming😊

Haha yes definitely one of the less relaxing hikes I’ve done 😂 All those power lines and there’s still about 3 power cuts a day - the system clearly doesn’t work 😂

Snakes. Bears. Wasps. Stinging nettles. Ah! The challenges of overseas travel! Nothing too dangerous to worry about in NZ. Yeah, ongaonga and bush lawyer aren’t cute and cuddly but won’t kill you (probably).
You’ll appreciate Aotearoa on your return and all it has to offer. Great you’ve chosen to visit some pretty unusual countries too. Not many venture to Macedonia, Albania etc.
