@Hannah7Banana I work at a dog daycare and boarding place and I've seen many dogs have this kind of reaction. In this case, I think he likes this food and his instincts tell him to save it for later. The motions with his nose are instinctual and most dogs take awhile to figure out that it's how they are supposed to bury the food for later. At my work, we will see dogs make these motions, eventually figure out what's going on, and bury their food or treat under their blanket or bedding by using their nose as a shovel. Super cute!
Some people are saying he's trying to bury his food. To me, a non-expert, it looks like he senses the food but can't tell exactly where it is, so he sniffs until he gets close enough to lick it. Maybe take him to the vet to get his eyes and nose checked?
I read all the comments, I wanted to address that my dog Harvey, yes he is old,(11 years old) and completely blind. his teeth are like that because he has had to have several pulled and it’s impossible to clean his teeth unless he is under anesthesia. He was also a stray up until we rescued him, and he has a slightly crooked jaw, so that might be why he has a sensitive mouth and more teeth issues. He has kidney disease and he has to be on a special bland wet food diet, so he might not like the flavor of his food that much. And lastly, he loves a paper bowl because he scares himself if we get him the metal kind, because his tag hits up against it and he will jump back 😭 poor thing… Hope this explains stuff Also, ik about the natural traits of covering up his food, but I just thought it was a little weird and funny, since he’s trying to cover it up with a paper towel 😂
I know that using those paper bowls and paper towels aren’t the sturdiest. We have cats where I work and they avoid paper plates and bowls because they flip over so easily. Granted, they’re cats so it could just be the whole inner royalty thing for them and paper products!😂
Like other comments I think is the instict to bury the food and maybe he/she is a little old. That's my opinion, nothing wrong with your beautiful dog💕
Your dog is adorable 🥰🥰🥰
The first bit is him trying to bury his food. It's an evolutionary trait from wolves. Granted like my dog, yours is awful at it.

Maybe try a different bowl (metal or ceramic)? My dog is very fussy she sometimes wants a plate. 😂
