My background was in rugby which is a sport that requires teamwork between a variety of different types of skill. I watched the preseason for lots of teams, discovered college football (I had never heard of it before) and watched many different teams. Wyoming stood out, I watched all the strong programs but the simple set up at Wyoming was an easier guide to the game. They played as a team that seemed to care for each other. I watched every week. Craig Bohl, their coach seemed to make players that might not get to the NFL learn how good they were as role models, how important they were to Wyoming and that they could learn other skills through football like leading press interviews. It was very clear, I thought, that all the strengths Allen might have were obvious to his team. His leadership, common sense, ability to get on with people and team instinct were practiced each week. It was disappointing that the Wyoming roster lost some offensive stars in their 2017 season, but it did bring Josh a bigger challenge. You might think having fewer offensive opportunities would be bad for a QB but it struck me Josh got precious practice in having to make the best in adversity. I must admit to loving one time Red Raider hot shots, Mahomes & Mayfield, some superb Californian QBs, 100% loving Lamar and the many southern thoroughbreds but the QB picked 7th from Wyoming was & is by far my favourite and especially in going to the Bills. What had he had easy?! To my mind, he was ready to work hard, ready for the weather, ready to improve, ready to get on with a different type of team mate, and a tremendous fan base. Thankfully he has fared well thus far. Long may it continue! All those years ago, Craig Bohl bothered to go all the way to Firebaugh to sit on his parent's porch to recruit him (I understand). Lets all hope Josh stays healthy and brings the same down to earth intelligence & good grace to his future part & influence on the game.
