You, Me & the RV
I-40 East of Kingman Az. is the worst road I've been on yet. Rattle, rattle and then bang, huge pothole you can't avoid...
Hwy 20 through Shreveport makes I-10 feel like butter. 😮 Safe travels
AMEN!!! I’m from Shreveport and this lady knows what she’s talkin bout!!!
We do all we can to avoid I-20 through Shreveport!
I can fully agree with this. Made my wife cry in pain
Exactly... worse than I-10 by far...
Agreed. I-20 through Shreveport is awful!
I-40 in Arizona and New Mexico is the worst I have ever seen. We went to Phoenix from Kansas City to pick up our custom toy hauler in December. The section of I-40 from Tucumcari, New Mexico to Holbrook, Arizona is absolutely terrible! I will never drive that route again! We saw several rv's and trucks pulled over with blown tires which I assume is due to hitting the huge holes in the highway.
Drove a U-Haul pulling a trailer through there a year ago - terrible pavement.
Just be lucky you didn’t continue from Flagstaff to Kingman. Worst ever, and the reported accidents and deaths will prove it…unfortunately.
I-40 east between Memphis and Nashville is so bumpy it actually made the frame for our shower door come loose. Being from Baton Rouge, the I-10 bridge over the Mississppi going eastbound is the worst engineering ever...constant gridlock due to going from three lanes to one lane when curving to the right after the bridge to continue on I-10 east.
I-26 between Asheville NC and Spartanburg SC (under construction for years now) shook the fillings out of my teeth! Safe travels folks.
I-40 East of Kingman all the way to Flagstaff is bar-none some of the absolute worst Interstate sections of roads (perennially now for 20+ years I've experienced). Literally pieces/parts of cars, trucks, RVs, & trailers scattered around the road & on shoulders. Some of the holes are as big as VW Bugs & spaced so you cannot stay in 1 lane or another to dodge them.
I think they’re all bad, since there construction traffic has tripled, and they all need to be up graded and expanded. I feel we have just out grown the freeways, I try and use the old US Routes, less traffic and appear to be maintained better. The big draw back is you have all the towns to travel thru, but what the hell we are retired and shouldn’t be in a hurry. 😊😊
I agree. We lost a drivers side mirror off our Thor Hurricane. The mirror literally popped out of the casing. Also one of our storage compartment floors dropped down from the bumps and vibration.
Wow!!!
Been on them all. I40 between Kingman and Flagstaff is by-far the worst of all. So many accidents caused by this section. There was about a 2 mi section that we couldn’t go 20 ft without hitting another HUGE pothole. Some sections had 100 yards of potholes one after the other. Could dodge ‘em if you were walking.
The roads in Michigan make I-10 look like a dream road. We love summers in “the mitten” but the interstates are terrible.
They're getting better. I-94 from Ann Arbor to the Indiana Line is all pretty good now except for about 20 miles around MM 40 and a stretch in from about MM 120 to 135 in Jackson County but they're working on it. I just wish they would fix I-75 just north of Toledo. It's been horrible for years. They've also redone US-27 from I-94 to Lansing.
That stuff is all down south, try up north, not so good...
US 23 from the Ohio boarder to Ann Arbor about gave me a panic attack....nothing like bottoming out on several occasions to keep you alert!
@@leoreap2703 it’s awful!
Michigan roads are the worst. We have a saying we have two seasons winter and road construction season and it seems it’s never improved. Michigan has gotten their act together when it the holiday they will reopen roads so there is no back ups if they can. Getting backed up on I-75 going north or being backed up on I-94 in Detroit are the worst
I-95 in South Carolina is horrible.
When I lived in Illinois I always dreaded having to drive down I-65 through Indiana, nothing but potholes and getting passed by semi's that have a 10MPH lower speed limit while merging down to 1 lane for construction zones with no construction going on.
I live in Indiana I65 is still horrible.
I have had that shower shampoo dispenser for over 15 years in both my bathrooms at home they are the best
Agree!!
I’ve been hesitant to install a shampoo/conditioner as they fall during driving & I don’t want a mess & waste of product from breakage. Do these really stay put? Any damage from install?
12:21 drove I-10 the first time 2 years ago on drive back from picking up our RV. That drive was incredibly stressful & eye-opening! Construction at various points. Narrow road. Great point to try & avoid that road.
I love ya'lls videos. Such helpful hints, and always so kind and happy to share great simple & practical ideas.
We spent a ton of time in LA this past summer. Never again. Love the people, history and culture. The roads, no matter if they are local, state or Federal are all horrible. All of the locals we spoke with agree, corruption and misspending have caused all of our road headaches. It's a shame we won't go back, we love Cafe Beignet on Royal St. Eisenhower would be super mad if he could see our Nation's roads now. Thanks for your videos, awesome job friends.
It's like a contest between states, WHICH has the most potholes ? ALWAYS thinking, how to make the most of the space you have... Thank you for sharing your ideas, and experiences.
Love Phil’s shirt, “drink local,” 😅 We squeegee after every shower. Keeps the water spotting away AND helps get rid of humidity.
The shirt is in our store. We designed it. Check it out at: todayissomeday.net
Outside the bathroom we put a collapsible shelf and it was really handy to place our Berkey. We also tapped into the power from the fireplace and put an outlet underneath it. Cheers.
I-10 was my guess! It is terrible! We live in Lake Charles, so we have to travel I-10 quite often! When we do get off this interstate it is so relaxing! We literally both take a deep breath and say that feels so good! Then we return home and have to get back on I-10, it is like pins and needles!
You guys had been about 2 miles from our old house in lake charles off hwy 14. My old hometown. There are some great restaurants in town. Too bad you did not stay longer to check them out. And yes I10 is bad and is a constant project that never ends. Taking forever at the Texas La border. Travel that from Houston to La frequently to visit family.
I always drive behind our RV... we haven't set it up to tow yet... and I like the alone time. Our trick is we simply do not get separated. We have walkie talkies and only when we get close to I lead in the car... keeping and eye open that he is following me. I pull over if he get held up at a light or something
I love your checklist method on the steering wheel! Awesome! Thank you and God Bless! Safe Travels! 🙏💐💝💐🌎🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Glad it was helpful!
I bought RV Wizard and love it for planning. I especially like the there rings distance targets. Did this all based on your video!
My wife’s grandfather used to run that city park(Sop Choppy) for years! It’s wild to see you guys there! We have stayed there many times!
We found that Sterlite ice cube bins fit in many small places in our Winnebago Vista. They are also great deep drawer organizers. Cut the lip of one side and it might fit on the inside of your bathroom under sink door with a couple screws.
I agree with a previous comment, I95 in South Carolina. I'd like to add I78 in Pennsylvania.
I agree with you guys about I-10 roads. They’re absolutely terrible.
I-75 in Ohio. We were heading north through Ohio. The road was so rough we heard things knocking around in the cabinets. When we got to our destination, we found the bottoms of our glass beer mugs had separated from the mugs!
Something to think about is of course your weight limit. Although it is nice for storage, weight is an issue when you start adding more and you are towing. So payload becomes very important !
South Interstate 17 from Flagstaff to Phoenix is so, so rough that the state has lowered the speed limit to 55 mph for ALL VEHICLES. Our trip resulted in damaging the Cummins plumbing from the outlet of the turbo to the inlet of the air compressor, resulting in the loss of engine power and a Check Engine code. We've traveled coast-to-coast 4 times now and the 17 South is the roughest road we've ever been on. When I describe it to others, I say, "It's so bad that it's criminal".
Most of the roads mentioned I had no problems with. The worst I ran across was I-70 from Colorado east. There was snow so filling potholes had to wait till spring but it was a teeth rattler!
Last year we went down from Alberta to Texas and the entire state of Texas was under construction. Every Hwy freeway interstate or road was under construction. Not kidding.
Great way to store the TP! Our tiny bathroom is the most frustrating space. Love the Tooletries but our showers surface isn’t smooth so I don’t know if that would work for us 🤔. Great looking HH, we will keep it in mind! Safe travels! - Mike and Shelley
I've heard about the 10. I just came back to WA from NM and found a stretch of I-84 20 miles either side of Declo, ID that I would not wish on my worst enemy. They actually have signs warning of potholes (more like foxholes) for 10 or 20 miles depending on which way you are traveling. I dodged all but one and will be getting the alignment checked on truck and trailer. I saw a 5th wheeler that blew out BOTH passenger side tires on his trailer on the side of the road. Love you r videos and hope to catch you one day out and about.
Anywhere in Oklahoma. Especially around okc. If you come to a stop, you'll notice the expansion joints are 4 inches high.
Plus the wind will blow a tesla over 💯
Navy Vet here, thank you for your service. 10 is the worst but 80 east or west in IL near Joliet is just as bad as 10! Safe travels. ⚓️
Thanks! Go Navy!
Totally agree that Interstate 75 in Michigan makes the 10 feel smooth as silk. The expansion gaps will vibrate the fillings right out of your teeth! That said, if on the 10 in Louisiana you MUST get some blackened aligator (or blackend swordfish if you will) served with heaping amounts of crawfish etouffe poured over it with an Abita Turbodog to drink!!! That, or a good crawfish boil! Enjoy! Best...
Great video - especially the bathroom tips. Our worst road is a stretch of I-88 S between Albany, NY and Binghampton, NY. I don't even consider it a road. It is a broken amalgam of concrete pieces smattered with an abundance of potholes and ruts wherever some semblance of vaguely identifiable interstate remains. It is the worst road this side of North Korea and I would guess that even Kim Jong Un would dispute that.
We did a video in Sopchoppy last year for their Worm Gruntin’ Festival. That isn’t a typo. The worm charmers 🪱 bring the worm to the surface. It was interesting. Had to go after we saw the festival logo of worms wearing lipstick with top hats! 🤣
I have not driven I-10 in Florida but I have driven the Alaska from Destruction Bay, Yukon to Tok, Alaska it took 6 hours to go 200 miles, There are stretches of that highway that 15 mph is max.
I agree that I-10 in Louisiana is the worst we have ever driven on with our LTV.
We to are full timers, currently on and off the I -10 heading Eastbound. Sections in Arizona and New Mexico will or could actually cause chassis damage if your not careful. Recent rains have really exacerbated the potholes. safe travels 😢
Ha! That is so ironic you mention I-10 - I've traveled it many times in many different vehicles and don't think I've ever seen so much rubber collected on the road as on I-10 between New Orleans and Mobile. We just traveled it for the first time last week in our new to us RV and got stuck in traffic - once again - big surprise. And as bad as I-10 is one of its feeders is even worse. Coming south in Baton Rouge on I-110 was the worst stretch of road I have ever been on. Bouncing, banging full mobile earthquake - I slowed down to about 45 miles an hour and people were honking and we were bouncing up and down like a rubber ball. When we pulled into our campsite later that afternoon every single hanger - every single hanger - was on the bottom of the closet. Never again on I-110 in Baton Rouge.
Great organization of your home on wheels, Phil you’re a lucky man. Stacy reminds me of how my wife organizes and keeps me in line with her plans. Go Navy, my dad was a marine in WW 2.
Hand Salute!
I do agree with debbiz on I-20 though Shreveport. Thank goodness it’s not a long distance. We have a Tiffin Phaeton and had Chris Berry in Red Bay replace the TV above the dash and in the bedroom with cabinets. So much more storage than what a TV had. 😂 We stayed at the Tallahassee Auto Museum last year. That’s a must see. Pleasure meeting y’all in December in Belmont at the Mexican restaurant.
Another vote for I-95 in South Carolina
Those islands in Cracker Barrel parking lots, are to ensue tractor trailers don't park there. My daughter worked in one in Pennsylvania for a few years.
You were only one exit away from me when you were at the Tallahassee Auto Museum. We haven’t been to Sopchoppy in a few years.
We took 10 from Los Angeles to Mobile, about a month after we got our trailer. First thing I did was replace the China Bombs with Goodyears. It was 117 Air Temp from Palm Springs area until just about Tucson where it rained. Detoured via Fredericksburg, TX and then picked up 10 by Houston. Construction off and on, heavy rain off and on, most of the way from there to Mobile. July of 21, so most of the RV parks were still cleaning up hurricane debris. I grew up in the Los Angeles area so I'm used to freeway traffic and construction but that area was ridiculous.
Came back on Rte 66, I44 and I40. So I would nominate the construction around St Louis as the worst traffic, but it was contained in a small area.
That little slot would be perfect for my Fuji Stick, other walking sticks, maybe umbrellas?
I-26 in between Columbia South Carolina and Asheville North Carolina is pretty awful. Really tests your shocks and tires. When you get to Asheville the temporary construction areas are a disgrace at any speed.
I-65 in Birmingham on your way to Red Bay is no fun.
Hi Phil and Stacy , Just a idea for you Stacy to get your morning space , you just got to kick Phil outside for his morning coffee . I think every camper should have a Tri Pod Grill , google it . For cooking over camp fires , you can slow cook chili or a beef stew , or boil up some corn on the cob , just think how much you will save from not using propane . There is a chain so you can raise or lower close to the fire , it cost very little .Stay safe u2
LOL.....I do love sitting outside!!
The AlCan Hwy is a breeze compared to some interstates. I feel the worst is Hwy 93 from Las Vegas to Kingman Az.
I10 is worse than the ALCAN if only because Alaska is not at either end of it! I40 in New Mexico is a contender though.
Go to an RV dealership that carries Grand Design Travel Trailers and 5th wheels and see what the under sink cabinet looks like. They maximize that storage and gets everything out of the way. I would rerun your drain and plumbing lines, mimicking how Grand Design does it. That looks horrible and sloppy!
Pretty much any highway north of New Jersey. Particularly I-84 or the NYS Thruway.
Route 70 through Indiana will rattle your teeth too! We go through 2 times a year to see the grandkids!!
We are from Louisiana and we Hate! Hate! I-10. Not just for the road conditions, but we travel the Atchafalya (a-Chaf-a-lie-a) Basin often, and there is always an accident or something slowing traffic on there.
Thanks for all your tips. Always enjoy your content & you guys are real people!
Always looking on the bright side & you get along so well. Thats special living that kind of life. We do pretty well but some days you just need your space!😂. Anyho could you please give the amounts of the ingredients you use for the shower spray. We just purchased a tiny home in Franklin NC and I’m scrubbing soap scum off fiberglass. The ingredients for my situation are 1 cup baking soda & about 1/3 vinegar. Let sit 10 min. Your spray is a great way to maintain the absence of scum. Gonna start using in our Super C too. Happy travels you guys & Blessings. We’ll be camphosting in Bass Harbor Maine near Acadia for the summer if you get up that way👍. Blessings & thanks for all the things you do for our service people🙏💘
Thank you so much! The spray is, 2 parts water, 1 part vinegar, and 1 part dawn liquid dish soap.
I love your checklist straps.
I-10 in LA is definitely the worst. I’ve lost 2 snap pads from holes in the freeway.
Sorry we are missing this year's cruise. We've been on that one twice but looking forward to next year's!!!!!
Try the Cassier Hwy through the west side of Canada up to Alaska. This one is (or at least was 5 years ago) so much worse than the 10. There were times when we were going 5 miles an hour and that was TOO fast! But BOY was it beautiful! Of course it’s not an interstate Hwy but one exciting drive!!
Just checking in, thanks for the advise. I-20 going through Louisiana, we did a short video on that road 😂
I 10 between Ft. Stockton and El Paso. TV jumped off the wall and I tried disconnecting the cables while bouncing down the road. Our fridge was all dented up on the side where the TV hit it. Our stackable washer and dryer jumped forward in the closet and we had a cracked windshield.
Worst road ANYWHERE…Highway 2 between Destruction Bay Yukon & Tok AK! We had to divert off road through a riverbed.
Then almost any road in Louisiana…lol
I-90, around Chicago. Not sure what they’re doing with the tolls they collect but it’s not for new pavement.
6:35 Home Goods has a good selection of these little containers
I-70 in eastern Colorado. Their roads caused 3 blowouts on our rig.
10 in MS, AL and FL is beautiful. 10 in LA and TX is basically a moonscape.
I10 after leaving Louisiana and into Florida, broke our springs! IN HALF. Thankfully, we found a great family-owned RV repair shop in Pensacola and were able to get back on the road. WORST interstate in the USA.
Well when you come to Pennsylvania have a chiropractor on call and a mechanic lol our dirt roads are better than the main ones at this point. Your videos make me laugh 👍
Interstate 20 through Mississippi and Louisiana is the worst we've been on in 3 years of full-time!
We have stayed at the State Park a couple times, the museum is good.
I-20 through Jackson, Ms is much worse that I-10 in west La, IMO. I towed my TT through there about six weeks ago and had to slow down to 45 to get through it...
I-80 Westbound South of Chicago.
I-81 Northbound in Northern Pennsylvania. I-10 East of Tucson, AZ.
We wish for level camping spots and smooth roads!
We travel with our 33aa.
Brendan & Lena
I 70 in Indiana especially Indianapolis to Illinois border.
I love watching ya'll. Your video is fun and informative. Ya'll stay safe
Thank you!!!
95 in South Carolina is BAD.
I-20 through Shreveport, LA is the absolute worst section of any interstate I have ever traveled!
Love you guys. 1-70 across Missouri is the worst. Go Army!!
Wood Design in Nappanee can customize anything you want and match your cabinetry exactly. Oh…and I humbly submit I40/US 95 around Kingman is way worse than 10. And yep, we thought the Alaska roads were way better than most in the 48.
We are staying at Crying Eagle in early May. We have never done I-10, but think that I-20 in Shreveport is bad. See you in Margaritaville in August!
I80 thru Salt Lake City, I am always afraid we are going to lose and axle. Last time through we had a bearing failure.
Love this couple! and the content! too fun!
Yay! Thank you!
AN UNDERSINK STORAGE SOLUTION. A diy one. Check hobby lobby to ass they have little sheets plastic like for picture frames instead glass . If so and have small electric or battery saw can cut sides out to fit and a bottom also and have your own little bin can take out and. If don’t have the needed tool maybe some your fellow tv friends Cooke help you out. Be your own customized triangle bin. Once made next brand rally you go to let them know and they could include Lin in their future builds. Or make them and sell them to other rvers with your rig model.
70 thru midwest makes me love 10
Go Coast Guard! LOL, we are both retired Coasties. Like your channel, subscribed!
From MI ....I 10 worse and yeah michigan is working on the may roads during the sunner so it is orange cone season .. beware of country roads
Hey, we are in the Lake Charles area also. At a great state park called Sam Houston Jones.
Stayed on Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA just prior to COVID. Holy Cow. Thought I was going to get into accident on I-20 leaving base and going west. It was so bad I slowed down to 40mph. There was no traffic…wonder why…I think I know why.
By the way, when’s the last time you checked weight at CAT scales. Love their app. But if you re-weigh, take screen shots. Just put the scale number in the app and didn’t have to talk to anyone. Re weigh was to split back axles on two different scales.
Just did Alaska this past summer. Not too bad. Highway 10 in Louisiana is way worse
Sopchoppy City Park is one of my favs and now you have spoiled it by letting everybody know! Just kidding of course, I have my own video about my visits there. I hope you made it to the Civic Brewing in town, a small veteran owned brewery that does an excellent job and serves as the towns social hub.
There are really no good roads in Louisiana. Hwy 90 from New Orleans to Lafayette is worse than I-10 particularly from New Iberia to Lafayette. But the last 30 years of my career driving a semi truck in the U.S. and Canada I really can’t list all of them. Two lanes or four lanes every state or province has some really bad roads.
You can use Trucker Path which would be helpful best overall
I am not familiar with I 10 , but it would be hard pressed to be worse than the interstates here in Colorado .Absolutely horrible .
I-95 in South Carolina, but I agree that I-10 it terrible.
Interstate 40 in NM is worst! We avoid it at all cost!
Agreed. Shook one of our drawers off.
Totally concur!
I agree, just did it in February. Still waiting on some parts for the repairs!@@lonesapuckett7583
I-40 between Flagstaff & Kingman is BRUTAL. We avoid AZ destinations solely due to that hwy. Lost a fender off our dolly on the road & surprised our house batteries didn't break through the floor of their compartment down onto the road last time we were thru there.
You may be able to gain some room under your bathroom sink by replacing the J-trap with a HEPVO.
Great idea!
OMG I taught school for one year near there. ( a living nightmare ) My first job. I was young and very naive
Been traveling back and forth to Florida from Ohio for 20yrs. I95 in South Carolina is and has been the worse road, year in and year out.
