I bought my 1986 JCM 800 50w with 2 4x10 Marshall cabs for $500 used in high school back in 1988. My grandpa was cool enough to buy it for me and it still kickass. I wouldn’t sell it if someone offered me $3000

I had a 100w JCM800 & 4x12 cab as my bedroom rig back in '88. Preamp on 10 and Master Volume on 0.9 was about the limit when my parents were in. The 'only' downside to having a half-stack in your home is the treble will take the enamel off your teeth unless you can turn the volume up beyond about 3 but by that time it's shaking the house. Traded it in when I discovered rack processors and going stereo - ahh, those were the days!

luckily these days we have attenuator so we can fully enjoy those great tones at home volume.

I was wondering the same thing about my 800. The master from about 1-2 (which is getting really loud already in a small room) just rips my face off with harsh treble. I also noticed putting the preamp above about 7 brings in a bit more brightness

@@karlroszko try using it into something like the UA Ox Box so that you can get passed the harsh treble but still use it at low level. Wish I had access to one when I had the 800!

I have that exact amp since ‘88 and will never get rid of it. It is a BEAST!

These (2203 and 2204) are truly awesome amplifiers! Thanks for the video.

When these amps were introduced many older players didn't like them because they didn't sound like the 60's Marshalls. Retailers described the JCM 800 2203 as a "one trick pony". But what I've found over the years is that a 2203 actually has a surprising range of good sounds in it. Put the Master up to 3 or 4 and roll back the preamp a bit and it will roar like an old Super Lead. You can also get beautiful almost-clean sounds with a 2203. Mine's an '82. They'll have to pry it out of my cold dead hands.

Have 2 of them i bought new in 1984. Canadian model which have the hard switches instead of the plastic ones. Hard core amps from a different time. All Amp companys try to copy them but never do them justice. 68 years old now and they still rock my socks!

LOVE my 78 JMP 2204!! Had a 86 JCM 800 as well that had chocolate grill! Felt two heads was overkill so moved 800 to finance vintage Gretsch! No regrets and Gretsch sounds killer with JMP( as does the rest of the squad) Cheers!!✌🏽❤️

I still use my 77 Boss OD on it and it still crushes . My Boogie Mark IV does get jealous at times.

I have a sc20h and it's amazing, I've had a few seasoned players who never played Marshalls much tell me it's the best guitar tone they ever heard, with a orange cab and my les paul with Monty's PAFS, it's a killer sound when you run it hot.

I love the JCM800 2203, the best one I've ever played that blew my mind was a JCM800 2203 Kerry King Signature model thru a 4x12 Marshall 1960B Cab played with Jackson USA RR1 guitar.

So many albums have been recorded with this combination and sold tens of millions of albums says it's a winning combination. Kiss, Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Ozborne, Gunners just to name a few.

I bought a Marshall cabinet off a close friend of mine 13 years ago for 50 bucks . I took it out of storage and it turns out it’s a jcm 800 lead 1960

I have this one and the single input dual channel 50w. I like the single input one better for house playing.

a lot people don't know how to dial JCM 800 , it sounds fizzy at volumes below master 4. You really need to open it up to hear a real JCM 800
